1. This is a loaded question. The thing is I would have preferred Denney, too (at least at first blush). It's fine to voice your preference but to extend that as some kind of criticism of the Twins or to bemoan the state of the draft class seems unnecessarily inflammatory to me.
2. Twins weren't going to sign Denney with the pool money they'd have left. (There's also concerns about Denney's ability to stay behind the plate.) It's really annoying how people reach for illusory points to criticize the Twins draft approach.
3.

Comment From RS Why did the Twins draft a catcher that can't hit in the high 3rd round?

10:18 Kiley McDaniel: I bet they think he can hit. Also, I think he can hit. Just doesn't look great but many cachers don't.
4. Stuart Turner, C, U Miss BAs 110 spec
5. Yeah, Eades is more demonstrative of their philosophy than Stewart, Meyer, May, Berrios, Bard, Chargois, Joneses, Melotolakis (sp?).
6. Both BA and Law gave him first round grades, but what do they know.
7. cmb, looks like some of your preferences will still be there at 78...
8. From Espn's draft chat http://a.espncdn.com/wireless/frontend/images/scribble/e.pngChris Crawford Not bad value for Eades, if he pitches like he did up until SEC plays, he's a steal. 10:58 PM [h=1]http://a.espncdn.com/wireless/frontend/images/scribble/e.pngChris Crawford[/h]These last two picks, Williams and Eades, were guys that coulda gone in the top 15 if the draft were held in February. The draft is not held in February.
9. Ryan Eades. BAs #37 prospect Mlb.com scounting report 6'03" 200lbs DOB: 12/15/91 | Eades is everything you want from a pitcher: size, stuff and feel for pitching. A Cape Cod League All-Star back in 2011, Eades pitched in LSU's rotation last year and helped anchor it as the Saturday starter in 2013. He'll hit 94 mph with his fastball, and he has a good curve and changeup to go along with it to give him a good three-pitch mix that he knows how to use effectively. There is some question about his arm action, but the real concern might be about his medical record. Eades had labrum surgery as a senior in high school and any team interested in him in June will have to be convinced of his durability. The Cape Cod Pitcher of the Year in 2011 didn't go back there in 2012, resting up to try and improve on his sophomore season that saw him go 5-3 with a 3.83 ERA in 17 starts for LSU.
10. Boldt, Denney, Green, Windle...options here
11. Good draft for Pitt, with Meadows and McGuire
12. McGuire's underslot signability gave him some inflated helium, but I'm surprised by Shipley falling. I know some people saw him in the top 5.
13. McGuire is falling, I wonder if that will push a Ciuffo or Denney to 43...
14. Given Stewart's interview on the MLB Network, it SURE sounds like he's planning on signing (spoke of how excited he was to play bball year around). He spoke competently and maturely for such a young man; he praised the A&M coach as a great human, as if further to suggest 'all the best' to football.
15. Right, while the Twins might not take Baltimore's approach, they clearly are doing something different as far as gaining medical data than three years ago--that seems like a late adjustment to what the Twins themselves indicate was an industry standard. So many grains of salt, but that's why you have wheel barrels.
16. Witch-doctory or not; having as much data as you can seems like a good idea to me. There's always a need to have smart people to parse through which data is meaningful and which is totally useless--I do not* think it's smart to dismiss any kind medical evaluations out of hand.
17. That's reassuring, but also damning. Deron Johnson says, they were "one of the last few teams that didn't really rely a lot on medical." Wtf? DJ goes onto say, "We've gotten burned over the years." No ****.
18. I doubt they are relying strictly on Bosch's word. Evidently he kept detailed records and if those records correlate with the player's own financial records (i.e. for travel etc.) (though I'm not sure how MLB will get a hold of such things), that's pretty damning evidence. It's pretty smart of Bosch to keep enough evidence that he could flip on the players (or extort money from them), if a leak in his office or from the players ever surfaced. I'm sure he'd rather get paid to be quite than have to cooperate with MLB, but it sounds like the former didn't happen even though he tried.
19. Not all indulgence leads to addiction, my friend. Plenty of functioning adults are known to be lushes (or less!). I imagine cmb is just fine (though I don't intend to speak for him).
20. Adderall, I imagine, is a significantly stronger, better performing stimulant than, say, the greenies players took in the 70s and 80s to gain an edge. I wouldn't dismiss the benefits such a drug would give players out on the mound, given how much focus, concentration, and mental endurance are part of a good pitcher's make up.
21. The Starks seem so gun-ho through the entire affair, that they didn't even consider betrayal; I kept waiting for it, yes, until the point that I no longer thought it would happen. What was surprising was the casual brutality of the Freys.
22. I think this lessens the chances of the 'stros taking Moran; they can probably get similar savings by taking Gray at this point...
23. I think that kind of passion is just cool.
