  1. To be honest, I am pretty happy with where Arcia, Hicks, Dozier and Plouffe are at this point. Sure I was hoping for better, but all seem to be improving and making more of an impact in games. As they continue to work and gain more experience in the league, I expect they will continue to develop into future contributors to the roster. Lord knows it would be a welcome change to have legitimate roster questions once our big name prospects finally are up.
  2. I would trade him for multiple mid level prospects and move forward. If you don't like what Parmalee and Cabello provide you over the rest of the year, then you can still pursue Justin as a free agent. I get the reasoning behind holding onto Perkins and Correia, but holding onto Morneau and Doumit seems silly at this point. Get what you can and use those at bats to answer some roster questions over the rest of the season.
  3. I agree as well. Correia is a proven #4 pitcher which we are lacking and for 4mil, is pretty cheap. Keep him which allows you to really evaluate Diamond and Deduno for 2014. Right now I see our 2014 pitching as Gibson, Correia, Deduno, ???, and ???. Because of that, I think Correia is more valuable to the Twins than what the market seems to be offering.
  4. Is it just me or does it seem like Buxton should have been promoted to AA? Hi-A just doesn't seem like the leap to him that is can be to others.
  5. Honest question, when is the last time Ryan traded a player at the trade deadline for a average prospect? I ask because I can't think of one and I don't believe Ryan like trading for fringe prospects. It seems he prefers high potential prospects (who wouldn't) but more than that, I think he likes to reward the players in his minor league system rather than add bodies that will take playing time away from his own guys. As far as the rest of the thread goes, I don't see the Twins moving Doumit. They value him too much as a backup catcher and I believe they see him as a significantly better player than anything at AA or AAA.
  6. The closer it gets to the trade deadline, the less confident I am that we will make any moves. Morneau, limited value, though I feel the Twins will ask for too muchas they will value him more than other teams will. Doumit. I think the Twins like what he brings to the team and that he is under contact. I would like to see him traded, but I feel the Twins will be reluctant because of their perceived lack of C depth in the minors. Correia. He isn't great, and who will want to give up much for a #5 SP who might not even factor into their postseason rotation. Again, I think the Twins will value him more than other teams will and prefer to keep his contract for 2014. Willingham. Off the table. Jared Burton. He has been terrible. Glen Perkins. I don't think the Twins will get off of him for anything less than a great deal, and I can't see a team offering that to the Twins. Maybe it will happen, but I have a hard time seeing it. In the end, I think the Twins want high upside players in return for trades and I don't see any of those being offered for the players we have to offer.
  7. I think that he is part of our roation next year, and will be a positive contributer. Hopefully Gibson comes in a is solid as well which would make me more comfortable with the idea of our 2014 rotation being made up of Deduno, Correia and Gibson. If the Twins are willing to sign a #1 or #2 SP in free agency next year, we could have the makings of an above average rotation. I'm not holding my breath however.
  8. Dee Gordon in a trade with the Dodgers? Thoughts?
  9. Let's just appreciate the player in arcia who has flown through the Twins minor league system faster than anyone would have ever expected. He is 22 and is batting 5th in the lineup. He is making clutch hits. I don't know what his ceiling will be, but his floor looks pretty good right now. Also keep in mind that he is in a division with some pretty good pitchers.
  10. First question is what is the market? Arizona, Los Angeles, San Diego (maybe), St. Louis (maybe), Detroit, and Boston. Who else is available? Addison Reed hurts Perkins value, but there are very few other names lurking around which is good. My first thought was we need at top SP. My second thought was how do I feel about Dee Gordon who is currently mired in AAA? Not a great player, but young, fast and blocked by Hanley Ramirez. The Dodgers don't have much in terms of arms in the minors, but Gordon is a very expendable asset for them right now. I will be honest, I haven't done the research on him, but how do people on the board feel?
  11. It depends who the Twins are dealing him to. In my mind, the Twins won't take anthing less than a top 50 for Perkins and they probably want more than that. He is a very valuable asset being cost controlled and very productive. As much as we don't want to overvalue the return for Perkins, let's make sure we aren't underselling his value either. Arguably the 3rd or 4th best closer in the AL at a bargain of a price for more than one year.
  12. I like the idea of acquiring a Lee or a Gallardo, but I don't think either of those would be an option for the Twins. Like many have said, I cant' see the Phillies dumping Lee, and Gallardo would probably take a haul to acquire, though he is in the right age range if you could get a buy low deal. The problem would stem from the Twins re-signing him. Halladay and AJ Burnett are two vets who should be available in the offseason and who I hope the Twins pursue. Both are old enough to warrant a shorter deal, and the Twins are going to need to take a shot at a top end pitcher at some time. Halladay would be my preference because of his ability to generate ground balls and his HR rate should decrease a bit in the Twins park. Like may have said, once Morneau is off the books, only Mauer will command a large salary. The Twins should not be too concerned with the money aspect and will just need to stay away from 5+ year deals.
  13. I would love for us to be in a position to have too many decent starting pitchers rather than the farce that we have gone through recently. As Seth stated, true 1 and 2 SPs are pretty rare, but having a glut of potential 3, 4 & 5 SPs puts an organization to either pursue a 1 or 2 if they come available or trade for one from a team wanting to package a 1 or 2 for a cost effective MLB pitcher and a prospect. Too early to tell, but hopefully these are indicators of a true move by the Twins to become one of the better organizations in MLB again.
  14. Doumit needs to go, and will have a little bit of value. Burton could be a value if teams don't want to give up a lot to improve their bullpen. Morneau should be traded, but I doubt anyone will want him. Plouffe, Correia and Willingham all have more value to the Twins than they would on the open market which means the Twins would need to be blown away on an offer for anyof them. They are all pretty cheap for 2014, and none are really blocking any of our upcoming prospects. Some might believe Willingham and Plouffe are blocking players, but both could fill the DH spot regularly, and I am not counting on Sano breaking Spring 2014 with the club. Better to have too many productive players than trading them at a lower value and depending on your young players to contribute before they are ready.
  15. I believe Arcia will be able to provide a decent LF or RF at the major league level, but in truth, his value is in his bat. His RBI at bat today was brilliant and really reflects his confidence as a hitter IMO. Got behind, worked the count back to force the pitcher to throw a strike and then knocked in a two-out RBI to tie the game. Fantastic.
  16. Over the past couple years, we Twins fans have not had a ton to look forward to. Today, that day has changed. I am not championing miracle playoff run or stating we are favorites for the 2014 season. What I am saying is that our patience is soon to be rewarded. 1: As of the end of next week, Oswaldo Arcia, Kyle Gibson and Aaron Hicks (or as I call them "Phase 1") will all be on the Twins roster. It has been many years since we Twins fans have been able to see prospects of this calibre ascend to the major league level. It is exciting. 2: Miguel Sano and Eddie Rosario are at AA, and Byron Buxton is at Hi-A. Maybe this is a stretch, but having Buxton, Sano, Rosario, May and Meyer (my personal "Phase2") at AA (Buxton at Hi A) is pretty exciting and encouraging. This obviously doesn't forecast major league success in any way, but it is nice to see this amount of quality prospects knocking at the door. 3: The fact that we could have a 3rd wave of impact prospects developing as well is also always nice. 4: Trade deadline approaches. We have some decent players who could be available in Correia, Perkins, Willingham, Morneau, Burton and Doumit. If they get traded, great, now we have upgraded our system even further. If not, we have at least marginal talent on our roster to transition our prospects behind. Not trying to be a board cheerleader with this post, but I am truly excited for the first time in years about my Twins. Win Twins, Win.
  17. I would be totally ok with trading Willingham if I thought the Twins would be willing to sign a power bat in the offseason. However, history says they won't.
  18. The Twins saying they are "not looking to deal starting pitcher Kevin Correia" at 32 years old is basically code for "you better make us a good offer" IMO.
  19. Like many on this thread, I see Plouffe as part of the solution, not the problem. No one is untradeable for the right price, but I can't see a team trading a top SP or SS prospect for him. Keep him on the roster and when Sano does come up, be creative in ways to find him at bats.
  20. I would like to see the Twins trade Morneau, but like most of our players, he has very little trade value. The one team I could see making a move would be the Yankees if they believe Tex is going to be out for an extended period of time. The reason he may makes sense their is the short porch in right field an yankee stadium. His situation is a bit different from Willingham's IMO because Mauer and Parmalee could take over 1B and he isn't hitting for much power which is pretty common w/ our roster. Also, his contract expires at the end of the year. I would take a C level prospect for him.
  21. Why is letting a 20+ HR right handed bat play out year 2 of a 3 year deal a bad thing when he probably won't net more than an A ball mid range prospect? Yes, if the Twins get a top 15 prospect from a team, they hsould trade him. But, I can't see any universe where that will happen. Willingham is more valuable to the Twins than he is as a trade piece. He is a right handed, veteran power bat who is ok DH'ing and will allow the Twins to take pressure off their young hitters like Sano, Arcia and possibly Rosario next year. The idea of Joe Mauer and the Super Prospects is a fantasy land. You have to bring prospects into a decent situation where they are not asked to carry the team from day one. Understand that if we traded Willingham, Arcia might the second/third best bat we have on the Twins roster. That is the sad state of affairs that we are currently in.
  22. Great, two bags of potato chips instead of one.
  23. trading Correia should also be a top priority. The Twins could probably get more for him than any other player on the block other than Perkins.
  24. I would add Doumit to the must trade now list as well though we all know Gardy is terrified of only having two catchers. Opening up the DH spot for Willingham should be job #1 for this front office and should be done ASAP. Willingham at DH opens up an OF spot for Arcia and then the Twins could rotate Parmalee between 1B and the OF ensuring they get him consistent playing time.
  25. I don't see the benefit of trading Willingham for a middling prospect at this time. This roster is devoid of power and a middle of the order pressence. Counting on Arcia and Sano to jump in and provide this before they prove they are ready is just putting more and unneeded pressure on them.
