  1. Berardino writes a good article. The "Thread Starter" makes a false assumption with the title: "More evidence this organization is stuck in the mud?" I don't think the Twins are "stuck in the mud" at all. They are, however, stuck with some terrible pitching and a lot of young, unproven hitters. I've advocated for a Parmalee/Colabello platoon for quite some time, even though their current splits don't support the idea. Given Mauer's concussion issues, perhaps Mauer should play first base semi-permanently and let Parmalee/Colabello platoon in RF until Sano comes up.
  2. This game is a no-hoper. I don't know why I watch.
  3. 2013 went predictably wrong. The Twins started with only 4 proven major league hitters: Mauer, Morneau, Willingham & Doumit. In 2012 we had the same 4 + Span and Revere. That is 6 proven major league hitters. We all know that Florimon, Parmalee, Hicks have all flopped as hitters and Willingham and Doumit have had terrible seasons. Plouffe and Dozier had mixed results. Despite the lack of hitting, the Twins will lose about the same number of games as past years, despite worse starting pitching.
  4. I pray for a complete recovery and I hope for many more AB next year.
  5. If the pitch counts were taken away from the umpires, it could cause a game wide imbalance towards the hitters or the pitchers. This could be remedied by legislating changes in how tight or how lose the strike zone is. How much of the "black" is called a strike ? A tall batter does not have the same strike-zone profile as a short batter. The umpires would need to check to make sure that the strike-zone profile of each batter is correct, and change it accordingly.
  6. Arcia does what he knows. "See the ball. Hit the ball." With time and experience he will become Delmon Young or Jason Kubel. Lets hope he is traded for a good pitcher before he becomes Delmon Young.
  7. He is young. Hendricks can still learn to pitch. He can learn to move the ball up and down, in and out while changing speeds with each pitch. If he learns to pitch, his Strikeout rate will improve, his groundball rate will improve, and his location will improve. This is what the minor leagues are for. We have Albers and Diamond, who are a couple years older, and they are learning to be pitchers. Hendricks can learn to do it as well.
  8. When Plouffe comes to bat, do you hope? do you pay close attention ? I don't. Paying close attention means to be usually disappointed. If he does something good, fine, but I don't expect it or anticipate it or hope for it. He is ranked 30th of all the 3rd basemen in the Yahoo Fantasy Baseball Leagues. He is a place holder until Sano gets here. Plouffe is a player I would rather not think about.
  9. And where do you suppose we find those legitimate top-worthy pitchers ? They will be lucky to find a FA who would sign with a losing team. The International FA's are probably not signable as well. The only hope is to innovate and develop from the pitchers we have. At the moment that too appears unlikely. Gibson and Hendricks are still young though. There is hope, although the hope is dim.
  10. "Of course, taking issue with how those in authority run things is almost as ingrained in American culture as baseball itself. On the other hand, whether the subject is government, business or sports, those with no clue about how to actually run something are often the most vocal critics of those who do." This is the most perceptive quote from the article.
  11. Baseball has a "Sophomore jinx" for a reason. I'd rather make a trade using Dozier or Rosario sometime after the All-Star break.
  12. Tanking is a terrible thing for an organization to do. It shows the players and the fans that they don't care about winning. This means the fans won't show and the players will give up when the going gets tough. Building a winning organization means you try your best to win every game you can. Draft picks be damned.
  13. Quality hitters give you more good years than quality pitchers. Trading hitters for arms rarely proves to be a good deal. Meyer and May have proved they are AA pitchers. They are no more likely to be quality starters in the majors than the day we got them. Trading a quality hitter like Rosario for an arm is a bad risk.
  14. Spam got better. Revere got better. Gomez played the same in Milwaukee until this year. Casillas was always erratic. Delmon p*ssed away his career. Valencia's stats were never great and he got a fair shot at 3rd base. He fielded like a Troll. Nishioka was ... well, he was Nishioka. Plouffe has played about like he did in the minors. Of course we know that the new players this year are failing. but isn't that the fault of the players ? Can't talk about the pitchers because since the 2010 staff crashed and burned the starters have been a disaster. Everybody knows that. Injuries plays a huge part with that. Gardy does not talk bad about his players in public. We can only guess what he says in private. The Twins still score runs in the late innings when they are far behind, even this rag-tag bunch of hitters. That's a sign that they are still trying. That's a sign that Gardy's leadership still works.
  15. I HATE this thread. (Will this get me warned? banned?)
  16. With that lineup Rochester should be an extremely good team to start the season. However, that lineup should be in shambles by the end of the season due to ML callups.
  17. I know, am forgetting some but who were the last few Twins MiL starters of the year ? Anthony Swarzak, David Bromberg, Kyle Gibson, BJ Hermsen (what happened to him this year?) Duensing ?? No wonder the Twins rotation is in tatters.
  18. Drek. Overpriced Drek. and more Drek. Somebody may get lucky with one or 2 of them, but this is as sorry a group of pitchers that anyone could imagine.
  19. What you are doing is most valuable. I check it several times per week. Thank you.
  20. We'd be happy to hear what was inaccurate, unless it is about operating details, the names of the ligaments they use and other medical stuff like that.
  21. Twins prospects hitting before a near empty house. Glad.
  22. Twins prospects playing before a near empty house. Sad.
  23. I came across this excellent article. It relates quite well to the Twins pitching difficulties and the many pitchers that have already had TJ Surgery. Read the article from Bleacher Report. It makes me wonder how many pitchers, who have not had the surgery, do the "Thrower's 10"exercises? and should they ? and if they're not, why not?
  24. Who knows that the Twins didn't also offer $32 million ? Would you be surprised that he chose the Dodgers instead ? Would that stop complaints that the Twins won't spend the money ? When we don't know all the facts it isn't fair to make the worst case assumption.
  25. We do not know the details of specific notifications but we do know the results. We also know the rules of the marketplace. The rich get richer for a reason.
