Ha. And Kepler leads off with a homer, and then beats out an infield single (2-3 for the day) in the 4th, and then has to leave the game with a knee thing? So he looked the part in the 4th game, and then might be out for a spell, and the adventure will continue? https://www.mlb.com/twins/video/max-kepler-exits-game-with-injury-x7582?t=opening-week

Yes, I reviewed the batting champ's lists/complete history, too. I'm not really trying to "argue" anything, here. Thanks for doubling/tripling+ down and reinforcing everything already stated, though. I appreciate it. If you told me one more time I can remember it even better. 😇

I don't think a player needs to be perhaps disparaged, or an accomplishment that every player that plays the game would like to have in their career diminished to make something or someone else look good. And that is the attitone I get from this discussion about Arraez. No one is saying that an extra base hit is not better than a single (but any hit is welcomed in the first at bat of a game). Fans can miss players and lament their not playing with the Twins as a stand alone. People are not fantasy teams or video games. Value comes in many forms. And personalities. And entertainment. Believe it or not, some enjoy a scrappy 10 pitch at bat more than a home run. Some even enjoy a longer game to pass the time with, even with all the idiosyncrasies and delays. Even Rod Carew won a batting title (1972) with a .319 average. In 2021 the American League title was .319. 2022 and 2021 American League runner ups hit .311. (One was Judge) Every year is relative and a stand alone. Not to be disparaged. Different balls, different pitchers, worse umpires (maybe better ;-) ....... Arraez is missed. And his value is and was a plus to this team, and any team.

But the 30 some million slow starter .154 is not a problem…… 3 games. I hope they don’t bench Miranda.

No worries. Baldelli will have almost as many different lineups as games played. I love the comedy on this thread, and the continued attempts to diminish Arraez’ value. Getting on base clogs up the base paths. Now that is funny.

.... and the landing hard on the hip. Maybe he was just a bit overamped. He kinda jumped into the slide. We also got lucky that it was such a poor throw from Oliveras in left and Larnach scored. Larnach had only just got to 3rd when Oliveras fielded the ball in short left. We won't often get that lucky. He was out by 5 feet if the throw was on target. I can't believe Watkins is still coaching third when he was so awful last year.

Spring Training Winners and Losers
h2oface commented on SportsGuyDalton's blog entry in SportsGuyDalton's Blog
19 Ks in 40 ABs, and many of those against the fluff pitchers at the end of games. Did you expect worse? 😉 But OPS, SLG, and OBP all pretty fine. -
Does that mean that the FO will trade them all for prospects at the trade deadline? This should be interesting. A lot of hitters that have a lot to prove. A lot of pitchers with a lot to prove. Big question marks all around, and we haven't really seen much of several of them all ST. And the month of April may be the toughest on the schedule. I hope these guys can prove it. I was reading somewhere that Gallo will be leading off against righties.... which is more than half the time. A strikeout king hitting well below the Mendoza Line (2022) leading off. Baseball sure has changed. (Castro leading ST with Ks, with less at bats than Gallo! Yikes!)

4 Bold Predictions for the 2023 Twins
h2oface replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Agreed. I think it is actually an advantage to start your 2 or 3, or even 4 for the opener against their one..... Then you have our 1 against their 2, our 2 against their 3, our 3 against their 4, etc. It could be a strategic advantage for many rotations. Plus, their one could very well have a mediocre first game, and we win anyway...... or not.- 31 replies

4 Bold Predictions for the 2023 Twins
h2oface replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Consistently? Pablo Lopez didn't even come close to around 3.00 last year! 3.94 career ERA, 3.75 last year, and last year the only season he ever came close to 180 innings. A good year, for sure, but still not ace-like. Previous high innings was 111.1 in 2019 with an ERA of 5.09. His 2021 season was the only time he was ever around 3.00 with 3.07, with all of only 102.2 innings. So, nowhere close to an Ace, at least not yet. Not that bold of a take, really...... Maybe this year? Does one great year make an Ace, or does it take at least 2? Maybe more?- 31 replies

4 Bold Predictions for the 2023 Twins
h2oface replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Ryan should be opening day starter. Putting the new guy, who is nowhere close to an ace, at the top of your list, is disrespectful of your core that he joins. Let him earn top starter on this team, not just give it to him based on hope.- 31 replies

Ober Optioned as Opening Day Roster Becomes More Clear
h2oface replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Pagan and Sands coming in for relief? Now, that is scary. Willie Castro? Add him to a bunch of backups that don't hit much, some who will be starting because of injuries. I hope the pitchers make the gamble all worth it. They will need to be real good to make up for a lack of offense.- 72 replies

That would be a great time. I like it in theory. Longer break for the injured to recoup and those that don't play. But a lot of action and no rest for the teams that play until the Semi's and Finals, especially. And those players would probably be many of the very best in MLB. But do you think that the "all -stars" egos could give up being all-stars and all the tradition and notoriety that goes with it? Perhaps contract bonuses. Interesting thing for the players to weigh in on.

Yikes! I wonder how long ago the inspection was and whether there was time during the 4 plus months off season to address it. Great info about the survey, too. $$$

Cody Bellinger has never been the same since his celebratory high forearm after a homer in the Series messed his shoulder up. Plus, call it Karma, or bad luck, but Altuve may finally be serving his unserved punishment for trashcangate.

I love it. It is great for baseball. Countless testimonies from participants praise it and want it to be more often. Even watching Diaz get his freakish injury from celebrating didn’t stop more teams from celebrating in ways that could cause more injuries. Adam Wainwright waited until he got home to take himself out by getting injured in the weight room! Injuries are always unlucky, no matter how they happen.

On Trading Caleb Thielbar and 70s Game Shows
h2oface replied to Hans Birkeland's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I would hope that was reversed. The goal of every front office needs to be winning games, including being the last team standing in the World Series and winning the very last game of each season. By doing so....... it leads to maximizing value. The goal is the endgame, not the process. -
On Trading Caleb Thielbar and 70s Game Shows
h2oface replied to Hans Birkeland's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
It is quite bold, and I feel, disrespectful to Arraez to assume he is currently at peak value. His future could take the peak a hell of a lot higher. You have no idea. Nobody does. As far as Theilbar is concerned, my bet is we have seen the last of his good year. Year, not years. And the decline will be severe and swift. The smoke is clearing, and the mirrors have broken. Just a gut feeling, not a hope. I bet you wouldn't get much for him, anyway, at his current "peak value". I think @jimbo92107 is right. This is the only team he will succeed on. I hope he has one more year, and has a way better start of the year than last. -

Twins 2023 Position Analysis: Relief Pitcher
h2oface replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Theilbar at the beginning of the year. Good Luck. I really don't see the smoke covering him this year. Last year he was horrible to start the year. What do they say about predictive stats. He fooled a lot of folks the last half of the season. We will see.- 47 replies

Live BP vs. Spring Training Games
h2oface commented on jharaldson's blog entry in Back Office Twins Baseball Blog
I am sure a player prefers to do well in the spring than not, even if the games and stats mean "nothing". Funny how a players poor performance can blamed on not having a complete spring training, but when they are there they don't participate any more than they could on their own at other facilities if they have discipline. -
