I didn't know either, but I do now. How do you feel now if you accused Scherzer and German of lying so? "Cone’s point was to depict how everything Scherzer said — and everything the umpires noticed — was consistent with what happens when a person mixes sweat with rosin, and then adds alcohol (as Scherzer was forced to do)." https://www.si.com/extra-mustard/2023/04/24/david-cone-rosin-experiment-sunday-night-baseball-max-scherzer-suspension https://larrybrownsports.com/baseball/david-cone-rosin-experiment-espn-max-scherzer/614331 https://www.yardbarker.com/mlb/articles/david_cone_conducts_rosin_experiment_in_examination_of_scherzer_case/s1_127_38732706 "MLB Crew Chief Dan Bellino said that Scherzer’s hand was “far stickier than anything we’ve felt” at the time of his ejection. Scherzer said he washed his hands with alcohol in front of league officials in between innings on Wednesday. As Cone’s experiment indicated, the presence of alcohol combined with rosin resulted in his hand getting significantly stickier than with the rock rosin alone."

Berrios pitches 7 shutout innings against the White Sox, 4 hits, 9Ks, 1 BB. ERA now down to 4.71. 3 good starts in a row after the first 2. This one the best yet.
-
Duran has 19 pitches in 5 days. And to think he could be the next de Grom, and we are wasting his massive ability and talent, and he would rather be a starter, anyway.

The Twins got Lopez drunk after all of 4 games, loaded him up, and today was a big Lopez hangover. 4 games and he was anointed. Now we see how long it lasts. I love excuses for the cold weather. The Twins bundled up in Bazooka Joe face gators, and the Nats went commando. They played in the same weather. 1-6 in the last 7. It ain't the weather.

Spencer Steer still has a hot bat playing 3rd for the Reds. 50 ABs and 16 hits. 4 2Bs, 2 HRs, 9 runs, 9 BBs with only 8 Ks, 6 RBI, 1 SB, .320 BA, .424 OBP, .520 SLG, .944 OPS. Still SSS, but not bad, eh? You don't want to look at Miranda's line so far..... .320 .424 .520 .944

3 pitches, 3 strikes to the first batter. Too bad or defensive specialist catcher didn't keep the K. And the walk off couldn't have been more middle middle....... and it was a weird ballpark and luck that won the game in the end. Could a right fielder with focused effort have caught that fly? 4 hits, 16Ks and 2 errors, not to consider other bad decisions. Vazquez did not have a good game. He just can't be that close to the batter. Not smart. This is the kind of game that if you don't have a favorite team playing, is really really fun to watch. Very entertaining without a horse in the race, and you love baseball.

Miranda turning one of the coolest double plays I have ever seen. Spectacular. What a weird game. I sure hope this is not a sign of things to come.

I often see Ober grouped with "the young reinforcements", or something like that. And I always think, the guy is not young, and has yet to last a majority of any season on the field. Maybe this is the year.

Analyzing the Pablo Lopez Extension
h2oface replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Compared to the last long term pitching contract the Twins cajoled successfully, Dobnak's deal, it is quite generous. I wonder what would have happened if he hadn't signed it, and wanted more? I mean, Arraez was traded for him after he didn't like his extension offer, and those that don't like the extension offer don't seem to last long on the roster. I'm glad he liked it. At least I think I am, after just 4 games - If he pitches anywhere close to these games, and stays off the IL, it will surely be a winner.- 19 replies

Could Joey Gallo Bring Hardware Back to Minnesota?
h2oface replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Awwww, come on! Just read the aggregate of players' interviews and comments. This locker room is ultra-talented and they know they are real good! So good, most of them didn't need ST reps because they knew what to do to be ready without them. Back fields, most of the games off, etc. And I read lots about how Gallo was very valuable, regardless of his last year's stats. It's coming. 😇- 68 replies

Tell me again, George... Tell me again how pitchers can't pitch complete games anymore...... Well, Lennie, they certainly can't if they are not given the opportunity. But it can be done sometimes when they are. Cole isn't really that good. It is just the Twins didn't get any hits today while he pitched. 😇

A Solid Start for Trevor Larnach
h2oface replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I would say the totality of his season so far IS inconsistent, Started great, and now he and Buxton are tanking. -
I just want to know who had to pick up the gum Baldelli threw on his way out. I have never seen a gum throw as a parting shot until today. (3:13 of the 3:25 highlight video titled Rocco Baldelli's ejection)

The move was made not when he was sitting, but when he was good to go and told them that. The second paragraph ( good edit) ..... maybe you are.... projecting? I am not talking about his contract or the signing or whether I liked it or not. Nobody really knows. But several now have made statements like they are the deision makers. At this point, sorry I brought it up. Sometimes rhetorical questions bring rhetoric.

Right. So. The Twins didn't want to play him for another day so ship him out for another 6 or so? Like I said, I don't really care, but it seems that it is not a re-hab, just a weird move to get rid of him for a few days, which is fine with me, but not in the spirit of the IL rule. The re-habbing comes at the end of the IL stay, and can even extend the 10 or 15 day for, what, another 10 (something like that?) before they must be activated. It is a weird move. It appears that he is and was..... "good to go" and not in need of the move the day the did it, like he told them. They had already waited the days pervious. Hey, the Twins aren't the only ones that do this move. Probably a silly thing to wonder here. All the answers I can get are from those who don't really know the answer anyway, but pretend to, and just make some guess up. They may be right, but they may not.

Gallo said he was good to go, But the Management said no. Yet, he plays 7 innings to re-hab immediately? What kind of re-hab is that. How is that an injury re-hab? He is just playing games in St. Paul, instead of with the Twins. He gets taken out sometimes in the 7th in the show, too. I don't really get it. But I don't really care, either. Good to see Julien playing in New York. Cavaco is playing 1B now. What's up with that? The St. Paul Box Score link is the Wichita game, too. Try this one: https://www.milb.com/gameday/saints-vs-Guardians/2023/04/14/723605#game_state=final,lock_state=final,game_tab=box,game=723605

A 4-3 win can make one ignore a 3 homer start in 6 innings. 3 dingers. I also consider it a bit of luck that these homers Varland served came with the bases empty. And the pitches hit out by Judge and Stanton were pretty much meat. It is not a good thing for a pitcher to give up 3 homers..... in 9 innings. But Varland did recover from the opening shock and kept us in the game. 8 Ks. Kept us in the game and gave us 6 innings. That was impressive. A 4-3 win can make one ignore a 3 homer game.

Like minds. I have been saying the exact same thing for years to any that would listen! The new stat guys bring up other advanced stats that try to do that, but it never really does. I also think that the number of outs should be factored in. And number of bases occupied. That is where it would get more tricky, with the other two factors invloved. But am am so over reading how well a reliever does, without factoring in that he did not provide relief, and let one to three runs score with two outs for example (even with the bases loaded), and all they needed to do is get a ground ball, fly out, pop out, or strikeout, the outcomes of an AB that happens around 68% of the time, anyway! (Considering that MLB average OBP is currently .323 for 2023) I don't really care about the why. That is way too subjective. And I don't consider ERA useless at all, even though flawed. But it could be tweaked, and the %s proposed are still not confusing, like some other advanced pitching stats. The relievers come in and give up a first pitch meatball, throw a wild pitch..... and they ruin their teammates line that just pitched 7 innings, and didn't want to come out, probably would have been fine to finish the inning - they just struck someone out, then gave up a walk that was a bad call by the plate ump, and then a dribbler that the third baseman couldn't make the play on, gets pulled with runners on second and third with one out, and the reliever comes in and gives up a wild pitch, and a single, and then strikes 2 out, and the starter gets the runs and the loss perhaps, and it looks like the reliever did great in the box and for his stat line..... all except the most improtant relief stat..... that shows they provided relief.... Inherited Runs Scored.

I never understand why IRS is usually not mentioned. To me, it is the most important stat in a relief pitchers line, and screws the pitcher replaced because they very well could have saved themselves and the team, instead of the manager making the decision to not let them and provide the opposite of relief.
