  1. Albers WAS gassed, he did say. If he wasn't in danger of hurting himself, and the shutout is "superficial" anyway (as been argued by those that were in favor of the manager making the decision to pull him), then step right up and give it a GO! Why not?! Fien can and did walk a batter as well as Albers did, anyway! Albers could have at least had the balls to fight for it if he really wanted it.
  2. When one is that close to doing what no Twin has done in a debut......... when history is knocking at your door....... the warrior reaches within and gives it all he has. Albers surrendered pretty easily. He didn't really fight to stay in. Almost 90 mph pitches can be just as tiring as any pitch if that is your max effort. I don't think Albers really wanted it. He seamed relieved. Kind of a shame....... so close to history. You have to get to the edge of it to create it. If you are at the edge of history and find yourself at your edge as well....... why not risk failure when the oh so rare chance you have earned to break through is right there. Work smart and cunning a clever....... you are in control.... you don't need to blow anything out....... but ..... but..... don't you have to try, or be allowed to try?
  3. ..........and just why wouldn't Hicks pitch?
  4. Pitch framing is a sad commentary on an umpires incorrect and subjective and inconsistent strike zone. If the instantaneous tools to call the consistent and accurate strike zone are used, it would never, and should never, be a part of the call. Personally, I don't want fake strikes for any batter or pitcher. A false strike zone is the anti-human part of the game. It cheats both the batter and the pitchers..... the human part of the game, the actual players - the part that even traditionalists and non-progressives say they don't want to not be a part of the game.
  5. The less time he spends around Jeff Smith, the better. Why Jeff Smith is even managing at all is a mystery to me.
  6. Gibson has been squeezed by inadequate plate umpires in every start according to pitch/fx. He hardly ever gets the great low strike, and they are constantly being called balls. Getting the calls right would have drastically changed his performance. Such is the problem with the anti-human part of the game, the umpires.
  7. "..a bit of a stretch.." Ha! Exactly. Or perhaps, the lack of a stretch and daily use. He needed to keep the daily routine to not let it tighten up and being out of the routine ......... no stretch.
  8. I wonder of sitting Sano in the middle of a hot streak, and not playing for 4 or 5 days inflicted the tightness in his hammy. That would put another spin on how his punishment is so good for him.
  9. Awesome write up. Thanks for reposting here.
  10. I don't remember Anderson being around at all when Deduno turned the corner and starred in the WBC. In fact, I would say Anderson NOT being in his ear is what brought the change and confidence.
  11. With Greinke hitting .400 and Ryu hitting .216......... I doubt it. At least he won't out hit these two.
  12. Duensing had allowed several runs to score. Inherited runners. A very important but oft not mentioned stat. Duensing is duen. Done. Finished. Please trade him and stop the suffering by Twins' fans. Has he had solid stuff against lefties this year? I remember hearing on a broadcast that lefties were hitting closer to .300 against him this year.
  13. Oh No! Samuel Deduno was quite demonstrative as he closed out the 7 shutout innings against the Mariners today (Saturday). Bent arm repetitive fist pumping and vocalizations. I sure hope he isn't benched for that wonderful display of emotion that was obviously gloating and not stoic.
  14. If people repeat something that is not true enough times, it may become the accepted truth. Slowey once again gets misrepresented. The management spin is still working.
  15. Purposely hitting a batter under the guise of "having your teammate's back". One of the most childish and cowardly traditions of baseball. I guess that should be allowed and having fun shouldn't. It can be a weird world.
  16. A monster 20 year old has personality. Good for him. I see folks say it is not accepted baseball behavior, but support cowardly throwing at a defenseless batter for silly "I got your back" grade school maturity. Interesting. Once stoning was an accepted tradition. Hopefully, the Twins don't destroy Sano's spirit. There will be plenty of teams 'round the league that would love to give the boy a try.
  17. Oh No! Sano has the curse of personality. Start killing his spirit early. It is the Twins Way.
  18. I was at the game, so I may have limited perception without the aid of the cameras and close-ups they provide........ but from the club seats that look straight down the third base line (so on the first base side), I couldn't have called it a routine play, and one that "could be been made with ordinary effort" while the ball was in the air that short shallow time. While the ball was in the air was the key here. And whether it even went 20 feet up (I was looking down on the action, but it was pretty close) ..... all while in the air that short time. So I am not arguing a case here, just saying that I couldn't have called it an infield fly by the rules, for the reasons I stated. The assumption that, while in the air, it was obvious it could be caught easily, is something I could not make.
  19. There was no reason to swing at all until Frieri managed to throw a strike. Only 2 total hits and bad judgement by a veteran was what I saw. That, and a very smart play by Frieri. Plus, there is no way I would have called an infield fly on that wimpy what ever it was that Morneau hit. Dwelling on a judgement call that could go either way to hope for a win is not in my wheelhouse. If that was a Twins' pitcher, would the song be about how smart and clever he was? I think so.
  20. My sentiments exactly. You have to contest the plate. Anything can happen. Don't just stop.
  21. That is exactly what my son and I thought. Hicks just decided to not make a play and gave up on it. All kinds of runs have scored on a creative slide. It just looked pathetic and he really did pull up early and not even contest the plate. I like making the defense make a play. Sure, you may get thrown out, but more often than not the throw is not even close to the plate and you can score even it you would have been thrown out with a good throw. It is better to have tried than get stranded at third......... like tonight's first and third with no outs, and twice first and second.
  22. I thought Hicks was much faster than I saw tonight sitting a bit above the Angel's dugout at Angel Stadium. It sure made him look silly to not try at all to make a competitive slide. Worse than silly. Made him look like he didn't care.
  23. What happened in Cleveland? Did they get a new manager or something?
