  1. What does stripping them of the title do? Absolutely nothing. It takes down a banner? It puts a "vacated" in the record books? Everyone knows who won, they watched the games. The players played in the games. It's just semantics at that point. I hate how the NCAA vacates titles. I feel it's much more a punishment for the fan base than it is to the players of the franchise themselves personally.
  2. How? When facing a guy with a great off-speed pitch it gives such advantage, especially in a 0-2 or 1-2 count to know what's coming. You aren't guessing anymore. If you know it's a fastball, you can sit back and take a good cut at it. If you know it's off speed you can adjust, especially if it's a hanger. This is why when a pitcher is tipping his pitches he tends to get lit up. Now imagine you don't even have to look for that, the info is just given to you.
  3. I just don't see how it's advantageous having him in long relief or an occasional spot starter when he could be starting on normal rest in Rochester. If the Twins plan on him being a long term rotation asset, let him start to get use to it now. Send him out there every 5 days. He's thrown less than 70 innings above A ball. Unless he comes out in ST and just wows everyone, I don't see the point in trying to rush him up to the MLB rotation.
  4. What excited me most about this extension is there is a good chance we haven't even seen Sano reach his peak yet. Gives him some peace of mind to focus on his game and not have that uncertainty of future earnings on his mind. I am really hoping they can come to an agreement with Berrios now.
  5. I'll ask the obvious question, why? Having Wade or Cave as a 4th or 5th OF seems great, but would you want either full-time over Eddie?
  6. You are comparing 4+ year 100M dollar deals to 1 year contracts. Quite the apples and oranges comparison there. Also, since when is Cruz not a top tier talent? That's news to me...and probably to the Twins too.
  7. This has nothing to do with Avila or the perceived notion of the FO being "cheap". Castro struggled mightily down the stretch and went and found a place where he will get more playing time than he would here, good for him.
  8. I would have to imagine he will be starting in Anaheim and was looking for a more solid role with Garver emerging as the more often than not starter. Not to mention Castro's bat fell off a cliff in the 2nd half. 2nd half numbers: .191/.333/.299. .632 OPS. 3 HR, 6 RBI and 49 K in 97 AB.
  9. “I can’t put a number or where a guy is or what that means, but we’re going to target impact pitching,” Twins CBO Derek Falvey said. “What that looks like? I can’t predict that today, just because I don’t know how exactly the market’s going to play out through the course of the winter. But I can tell you it’s highly likely that we’re going to spend a lot of time focused on: ‘How do we acquire on that side of the ball?'” There is more to the quote as well that he mentions free agents and the trade front. Since when does targeting mean.....we will for sure sign one of the top 5 free agent pitchers or consider ourselves failures?
  10. So the only scenario where the FO could succeed this off-season was to sign one of a small handful of big name free agent starting pitchers? I would hope that the line between failing and succeeding would be a broader scope and include at least a few more options than that.
  11. An excellent hitting first baseman. He is subpar with the glove to put it lightly. He's a stick and has 50 HR potential and would be a great addition to an already excellent lineup.
  12. Unless Kirilloff makes some strides with the bat, he isn't ready for the big leagues. He posted a pretty par for the course OPS in AA. The potential is there, but I would hardly doubt he's ready to take on a starting position on a playoff caliber team..
  13. I would take Perkins over Liriano for the decade. He did have a nice 2010, but Perkins had a dominant 5 year stretch where he was one of the game's best.
  14. Yeah, I'm not sure where this idea that I have seen floated around more than a few times came from. What evidence anywhere tells people that Arraez could just step into 3B and be better than at his primary position.....which isn't that great at anyways?
  15. How would signing Hill tell you that at all? Who knows when and if the guy will be ready to pitch. The timeline of July or midseason is pretty cloudy. It's a low risk lottery ticket where if he comes back strong it will look like an insanely intelligent signing. If he has complications, or comes back and looks done, they will be out $3M.
  16. No, it hasn't. At Bailey's age there is little reason to give him more than 1 year. If he has a pretty great year and puts up 3+ WAR, it's looking like a damn good signing for a 34 year old.....and you go from there. An option would have been nice, but nothing wrong with a 1 year deal here.
  17. But why? There should be absolutely zero to not like about the Hill signing. It's a low cost, possible high reward move that will not be known until midseason at best. I can see being irritated with Bailey signing because it's pretty much replacing Gibson, but I don't see how them together would irritate you over one or the other.
  18. A lot of hand wringing for them signing 2 pitchers AND it's only New Years. Hill could have a big impact when he comes back mid-season and Bailey is a depth back of the rotation type arm. There is still plenty of time to swing a trade, it's not Opening Day. Now sign Donaldson and swing a trade for another SP.
  19. To add on to that, Felix might be the best pitcher in the history of the game not to get the chance to pitch in the postseason. The Twins might be a great chance for him if he can rebound to make that happen.
  20. The problem here is finding a team who is trading a top level SP.....and needs a piece like Rosario. What team is trading an ace...and needs a 28 year old OF in his prime, who is getting expensive with a year of control after this year and is not a star level player? Any team coveting Rosario is likely trying to win now. There's also only probably 15-18 top level SP in the game right now. You just can't say....who will give them up for what prospects. Most top level SP are not going to be moved regardless.
  21. Sanchez's career OPS is .638. Great with the glove but pretty much the definition of a black hole with the bat.
  22. It was the only thing he ever tweeted in terms of money that I know of, and it was in direct response to Morin getting traded, followed by “I wish you the best my man! Let’s get it!” We know that Jose declined an extension last offseason, but also said this was reported: Berrios, however, didn’t rule out signing a contract that would extend his stay in Minnesota — perhaps even before Opening Day 2019. “I have to manage my business, too,” said the 24-year-old. “…We’re waiting for the best for both sides. If it doesn’t happen this year, maybe next year.” It was reported 2 years ago that Buxton turned down an extension, along with 5 other young Twins players, but details never emerged as to what they were. There have been a lot of posts about Buxton, Sano and Berrios in a hurry to get out of town and sign elsewhere, but this to me almost seems more out of frustration than holding any water.
  23. I would rather have Graterol starting in AAA and working on things than pushing him North in a bullpen role. The kid is only 21.
  24. I hope the players wait until the season starts before declaring a mutiny on the team. Jose was mad about Morin being dealt for cash considerations. He was already DFA'd that same week. Would have tweeted anything if Morin was straight released?
  25. They might not be hot prospects, but if you look around the league rotations are littered with guys in the 3-5 range who were not hot prospects. Dobnak has had an ERA under 3.20 for his entire minor league career and was superb in SSS of 28.1 major league innings last year. Yes, it's a SSS, but for comparison Dobnak: 7.31 K/9, 1.59 BB/9, 0.32 HR/9 in 2019 Dallas Kuechel for his career: 7.16 K/9, 2.64 BB/9, 0.91 HR/9 I know that Dobnak isn't likely to be Kuechel who won a Cy Young, but the potential to be a similar type pitcher is there. Lewis Thorpe when he has been healthy has been electrifying at every minor league stop and he's 24 years old. In AAA last year he had 11.12 K/9, 2.34 BB/9, 1.21 HR/9 to go with a 3.72 FIP. While he wasn't shut down dominant, he has the stuff to be at least a mid rotation starter. There is a notion going around that Twins after Berrios and Odo have absolutely nothing and will be forfeiting games after the top 2 in the rotation and it's just not true, they potentially have options, the guys are there. I would like more options, but just because these guys aren't Top 20 prospects does not mean they can't make a difference.
