  1. Not at all. Its not my money so I'm all for the Twins spending money. What I'm saying is I don't see a realistic offensive upgrade on the free agent market. Key word:realistic. After moving Mauer to first the biggest need was to fill C. They were incredibly aggressive trying to fill it but it didn't work out. Time to move on. Which free agent, realistically, could Ryan sign that would greatly help this team? Personally at this point I hope the Twins start looking into trades to try and fill needs.
  2. Punt the year? They just spent $73M on two pitchers and are rumored to be looking for another. They offered AJ a two year deal but he took a one year deal from Boston. They were heavy on Salty but his medicals scared them away from a three year deal. I'm confused how they are punting the year. Are they punting because they won't give a three year deal to a often injured Drew (which would also cost a draft pick)? Because they aren't offering Choo or Cano big time contracts because they like what they have in the minors or don't like the price tags? I personally just don't see many fits which would be major upgrades.
  3. Seriously which free agents on the offensive side to people want the Twins to sign? Cano? Haha, yeah right. Drew? Pass. Choo? Could fit but doesn't really fill a need. I just don't see many good fits from free agency. Maybe I'm forgetting someone.
  4. Height, being too short or too tall by MLB pitcher standards, definitely does come into play. There is a reason scouts look for the ideal pitchers frame. Height effects fastball plane, durability, control, and pitch release just to name a few. Heck, when teams are looking to spend hundreds of thousands to millions of bucks on a player they look at everything. Height, make up, family blood lines, arm length, grades, and so on and so on. Does that mean that you can exceed if you don't have the ideal qualities? Of course not, but pointing at outliers doesn't mean Berrios will join them. Berrios has gotten and will continue to get every chance to be a starter. He is a solid prospect but a few height related concerns came into play this year.
  5. You get the money back if you don't sign him.
  6. It would be great to add at least one offensive piece but I don't see a good match. I like the idea of Juan Uribe on a one year deal to man third till Sano is ready and once Sano comes up to mentor him. Rumors are he might want a two year deal and if so I don't see the fit. Most likely they will sign Buck to catch with Pinto and call it a day.
  7. AFL numbers mean nothing. Just like spring training numbers. I don't understand why people get worked up about either. Buxton killed low A and high A as a teenager during his first full season of pro ball. He did it so impressively he became the unanimous #1 overall prospect in baseball. While suggesting he will be up by the ASG might be optimistic saying he won't be ready till late 2015 is wildly pessimistic. Outside of a major injury I see no reason why he won't get a cup of Joe in September.
  8. Cubs want pitching prospects. We don't have the pitchers to trade them.
  9. Also, Christopher Crawford released his own top 50 list today. For people trying to research for the draft it is a good read. Link below: http://mlbdraftinsider.com/2013/12/the-board-2014-volume-way-too-early/
  10. They also released his their first top 50 list: http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/prospects/watch/y2014/#list=draft
  11. Experts are killing the Tigers for the poor return. Saying Nat's stole Fister and I agree.
  12. When Hughes was drafted he had a solid two pitch mix of a low 90s fastball and a potential out pitch for a curve ball. Hughes crushed the minors, was named BA's #4 prospect in all of baseball, and debuted shorty after. Here is Keith laws analysis of his current stuff: "His fastball is pin straight and he tries to work up in the zone with it, so he's been line drive- and homer-prone throughout his career. The Yankees tried at various times to get him to work with a two-seamer or cutter so he'd have a fastball option with life or sink, but neither was ever consistent for him and he remains a fastball-heavy guy who is regularly beaten on his primary pitch because it doesn't move and he can't locate it well side-to-side. Hughes spent most of 2013 working with a short, soft slider that he couldn't command, losing the low-70s curveball that was his potential out pitch when he was still a prospect so many years ago, and he's never had a solid third pitch." He goes on to note, which most have, Hughes has historically underperformed relative to his peripherals. Hopefully not only will he benefit from moving to Target Field but works hard with our development staff, which is one of the best at developing change ups, to get a solid third pitch.
  13. According to ESPN'S Jerry Crasnick a source tells him after signing Nolasco the Twins are likely to turn their attention to Hughes. Darren Wolfson reported that his camp loves Target Field and he would be willing to sign here if the money is right. George King reported Hughes camp is looking for a two year deal and that the Angels, Twins, Mariners, and Royals have shown interest. Should the Twins sign Hughes? http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/11/phil-hughes-in-line-for-two-year-deal.html
  14. While Nolasco wasn't at the top of my wish list, apparently he was for the Twins, I love the Twins getting a solid arm early. Definitely have to add a few more pieces but this, if accurate, is a great start.
  15. Chris Cotillo: Source: Twins agree to terms with Ricky Nolasco. Welcome to MN!
  16. Ben Nicholson-Smith: Not Salty per industry source.
  17. Chris cotillo: Hearing nolasco is close with the Twins.
  18. I have followed mlbtraderumors for a long time and Tim doesn't just use major for any signing. Has to be someone better.
  19. Darren Wolfson: Told the Twins are not close on nolasco, Arroyo, or Salty. Navarro count as "major"? Yoon?
  20. Haha right? Hopefully a admin will merge them all. Tim said major so I'm interested who it is. I'm guessing Nolasco or Salty.
  21. Tim Dierkes reports the Twins are close to a major signing. Who the signing is isn't clear. Link to post: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/11/twins-nearing-major-free-agent-signing.html
  22. This is what a lot of people are getting confused about. Tanaka isn't in Darvish's league. I don't understand why people keep calling him an ace.
  23. Several reports have suggested he would be open to signing a one year deal, might prefer it, to build value.
  24. I don't understand the obsession around here to give Hughes a 3 year deal. I rather go a 1 year deal with a team option like Liriano's deal.
  25. While his interview with Mike Berardino leaves much to be desired all reports from the GM meetings suggested Ryan was uncharacteristically active. After following the Twins off seasons for many years I had never heard the Twins so publicly linked to so many players. Plenty of time for Ryan to make a move. Heck, we haven't even hit the winter meetings yet.
