  1. Here is Kiley McDaniels scouting report on him: Scout.com: Scouting Report: Jacob Gatewood Very interesting prospect with a verity of opinions on him. 6'4 HSer that is very lean and long. Some say he is a surefire SS who could be the next Tulo while others think he will have to move to 3B at some time. I have seen some also compare him to Correa from the 2012 draft. He struggled in the HS showcases in game but crushed batting practices. One of the writers for perfect games had him as the best prospect in the 2014 (yes, above Rod).
  2. Since 2006 (first year a current player on this team was acquired) the Indians have had 3 years of .500 or above baseball and 5 years under .500 with 3 90+ losses seasons. The 3 90+ lose seasons all happened in the past 4 years. While the front office did a great job this off season I don't think long term this franchise has been saved. They had a ton of lucky breaks on lottery tickets/players having career years. As I say this, I wouldn't mind the Twins getting a new coach and adding a "big" FA or two, but I don't think it is fair to say our franchise is worse off than theirs. All teams go through down cycles. We have no bad contracts, an owner (at least publicity) saying he is willing to spend, the All-Star game, and one of the most exciting farm systems in baseball. Losing sucks but it makes it all that much better once we start winning again.
  3. Don't forget Kolek! Twins showed last year they are not afraid of taking a HS power arm. Dude has such a nasty fastball.
  4. Puig and Soler spent time minors, in Soler's case he is still in the minors, but you are right. Those were both considered elite talent with superstar ceilings. Igleias isn't in their range and won't command a $40M contract. I could see him get something in the high 20s-low 30s though which would obviously be affordable for even Ryan.
  5. If we knew for sure Gardy wasn't coming back I would root for his 1000th win but all indications point to him being back next year. The money difference in picks is just too much for me not to watch the Twins to have a higher pick.
  6. I know people doubt the Twins interest in Tanaka, which is fair, but this guy just sounds like a Twins target. Undersized, low 90s fastball, loose arm, and pounds the strike zone. Twins have been one of the most willing teams to sign "undersized" pitchers if they have advancedstuff. Also, Schlossnagle is a pretty well respected coach and if he thinks Igleias can add more to his fastball I believe him.
  7. -We are only .5 games behind the Cubs. We would have to finish with a worse record because in a tie they would get the higher pick -We have 4 games vs a team still fighting for a playoff spot while the Cubs have 3 games vs a team who has insured a spot. -Seattle is currently up 3-0 in the 7th and if they win that makes it certain we at least get 5. -With Mauer/Arcia out there is not much to root for except for the Twins to get the 4th overall pick two years in a row.
  8. Igleias is 23 (24 in April) and was considered one of the best pitchers in Cuba. The righty doesn't have an ideal pitching frame, 5'11 and weights 165" lbs, but threw in the 92-95 range while on Cuba's US tour. Teams USA's coach had this to say about him: "I think he’s a guy that, as he gets bigger and stronger, could be in the mid-to-upper 90s,” said Team USA coach Jim Schlossnagle, who is also the coach at Texas Christian. “He’s lean, has a ridiculously loose arm and pounded the strike zone. I was glad they didn’t pitch him more. He was the guy where you’re like, ‘Let’s find a way to get a lead before they get to this guy.’ ” Unlike Tanaka, Igleias most likely would have to spend sometime in the minors, but won't cost a posting fee. 9. Wolfson tweeted that the Twins will have multiple scouts at Abreu's showcase next week. This is the first time I have seen the Twins linked to him in anyway.
  10. Mike Maddox. Please go outside the organization for once. We need some new blood with some new ideas.
  11. While, I'm personally not a fan of most of the free agent arms, I have to agree that whenever Ryan talks baseball it is depressing. If it is about free agents, payroll, Gardy's future, or even his preference on pitcher velocity. Depressing.
  12. Hicks, Arcia, Gibson, and Pinto all were able to get their feet wet in the majors this year and all should play bigger roles next year. It isn't outside of possibility that Sano, May, Meyer, Rosario, and Buxton could do the same next year. Prospects don't just bring talent to the mlb club but a huge amount of financial flexibility. The pohlads could easily sign several FAs to 3-4 year deals that will help now but won't interfere with signing the prospects which turn out to be good mlb players long term.
  13. Once again, great read and thanks for sharing. I found these quotes from Ryan on Meyers after his second start in instructional league: "I'm not a huge velocity guy, but he's running it up there pretty good," Ryan said before the Twins-A's game at O.co Coliseum. "The best thing I can tell you is he's starting to use his changeup. "That's one of the things we tried to emphasize in the short amount of time we had him on the mound this spring. If he wants to be one of those big-time starters -- if he can develop that change -- he has a chance to be [one], because he's got the fastball and he's got the curve. And he's got the change -- all we got to do is make sure we polish it up." Ryan said the Twins don't keep statistics of instructional league games, even internally. The numbers, in this case anyway, don't matter. "He threw well," Ryan said. "More importantly, he's 100 percent. "You can't get too excited about results in instructional league. I will be more attentive to what goes on statistically out there in the Arizona Fall League." Twins get good report on prospect Meyer | twinsbaseball.com: News
  14. At this point, it is the only thing for fans to get excited about.
  15. Can a player who turns down a player option get a qualified offer? I have no idea. If not, while I still can't see him getting 5/56, I could see him getting more than mlbtraderumors guess. With the new draft rules teams will pay a little extra not to lose a pick.
  16. The Twins are going to finish in the top 10 and have a protected pick, if we sign a good free agent we might lose our 2nd round pick. While for fans it is easy to say who cares get the FA now I'm not sure our front office will feel the same way. Just makes the off season a little more interesting.
  17. One thing to note is not only is there possibly 8 elite talents at the top of the draft but the draft looks to be a deep one too. Especially with HS pitching. Last years perfect games all-american game, showcase for the best HS prospects, only one pitcher hit 94 (our own Kohl Stewart). This year 10 pitchers threw harder than 95. 10! Just something to keep in mind.
  18. Thanks you for the great post. Very enjoyable read.
  19. Twins will take BPA regardless of need. Luckily, this year need and BPA should be one and the same. Now, if it will be a college player or HS player that's a different story. As of now my top 5 has 2 college pitchers, a college SS, a HS pitcher, and a HS catcher/of. Twins might end up taking the best HS player for the third year in a row.
  20. We have signed more than 3. Those were just the two big names we signed.
  21. Not much information about the kid on the interwebs. Has a good pitchers frame though.
  22. 5th sounds about right and with how deep this years draft looks It could lead to a pretty darn good prospect. At this point a pitcher or SS look likely.
  23. Abreu would be a great upside signing, obviously with some risk, but from what I have read the Twins haven't been linked to him at all. Boo.
  24. Twins are #5 in the reverse standings with 12 games to go. 1 more vs the white suxs, 4 vs Cleveland and Oakland, and 3 vs Detroit. Only 1 game vs a team not in the playoff hunt. They are 1.5 games back of the cubs for the 4th overall pick and 1.5 games ahead of the mariners.
  25. A's also have Russell who is a heck of a SS prospect. There could possibly be 5 SS prospects in the top 10.
