  1. So what if there were? Short of taking up a collection here on TwinsDaily.com I cannot imagine how that would mean anything to the Twins.
  2. Encouraging. Let's hope for the best. A move to the outfield would be unfortunate. Too many OFs in the pipeline & we badly need infielders.
  3. OK, good catch. But to be fair, Gil McDougald played 120 games at SS, Billie Hunter played a few and Jerry Lumpe played a few. Rizzuto played in 31 games total and only had 66 plate appearances all year. He was not their primary SS.
  4. In 2016 and 2017 the Twins will be in the bottom third of payroll in MLB. If all we are missing is a SS you know Ryan would go sign a Jamie Carroll type of player. I like Carroll, but you don't go to the World Series with a 38 year old SS. At least no one ever has.
  5. Nice article Cody. Thanks All Twins fans are hoping for Parmelee to have a great year and they should give him an extended opportunity. If June arrives and it's not working for Parmelee or the Twins then it will depend on how Arcia is doing in AAA. Arcia is as sure a hitter as we have in the minor leagues right now. It could also come to pass that Willingham is traded at the deadline. Part of such a move could be that they feel that Arcia is ready.
  6. I have some questions, too. None of them is as interesting as the time & effort you've put into this. This is awesome. Thank you Seth.
  7. I like to be optimistic. Life is more fun that way. However, you need look no further than Steve Liddle to see that there are players who seem to be able to dominate low A ball who appear overmatched in A+ ball. Let's hope the best for Roberts. Still, he is not Arcia or Sano. Nor Kennys Vargas, for that matter. Beloit Snappers 2012 here.
  8. The old adage is that the best hitter on your team should hit third. I would be very interested in data to support or argue this point. Regardless of what the age old wisdom is, we have no one on our team with a high enough OBP to keep Mauer batting third. I vote Mauer for number two hitter.
  9. I think this is a really good point, ThePuck. I wish all the best for Chris Hermann. That said, a .276/.350/.392 slash line in AA suggests that he should spend some time at AAA before juming to MLB. As I've stated in other posts, that is a HUGE jump and only managed well by players such as Joe Mauer. There aren't many guys like that out there.
  10. Better. Slash line for July (.315/.365/.483) and August (.314/.345/.505) suggest he had worked through most of his issues. This was 194 at bats, so not an insignificant sample size. He may have gotten tired at the end of the season. It is a grueling schedule, especially for someone who had < 300 Plate Appearances the year before. I wouldn't bet that he will hit .314 for the year, but I would put money down that he will be better.
  11. Seth - is there a place where we can see all the For Better or Worse write-ups? These are all fun. Thanks
  12. This was really great to read. Due to an erratic schedule I'll not select a time or even a day of the week. I would definitely participate if I can. Sure hope to see you doing more of these. Thank you Seth.
  13. Thank you for pointing this out. I have been wondering what they were thinking with all the pitchers they are bringing in. Seemed like far too many. This makes some sense of it, though they will still have to shed a hefty number as they certainly expect most of the players you mentioned to join the team eventually. Not nearly enough room on the MLB & AAA rosters for all these guys.
  14. Great write-up, though he had 70 RBI in Beloit last year, not 780. While it seems unlikely he will exceed an .835 OPS in Ft. Myers, I am optimistic about this young man. The position change didn't seem to affect his offensive numbers. I'll say better. I think he will adjust well and will be more highly talked about as he moves along in the organization. He is no Sano or Arcia, but has an excellent bat for a 2B. I wouldn't look for him in a Twins uniform before 2015 though. More likely 2016.
  15. [h=1]Dozier had a good 2009 and a good 2011. He went from AA to MLB, a move not recommended for very many. As a SS his value in largely in his fielding. FanGraphs does not highly rate his fielding (though a small sample size). He will be 26 years old in May. I expect he will get a chance to show he deserves the position, but he will be on a short leash. His time is running out.[/h]
  16. I find it very difficult to believe that Harden will be ready. Deduno is a wild card, but his numbers for Sept/Oct were pretty good. I'd like to see what he can do in the starting rotation. I really like Duensing, but he has too much trouble with RH batters.
  17. I completely agree. Of course it depends on the player, but these schedules are grueling. A day off here and there, especially for players over 30 years of age, is probably good for them and good for the team.
  18. Kelly Johnson did have an OBP of over .300 in 2012. That sets him apart on this list.
  19. Biily Beane's team has great young pitching. I agree that it is difficult to be optimistic about the Twins 2013 season. 2014, with Hicks and Arcia looks more promising, but still need some of those pitchers to be above average.
  20. Terry Ryan should tell me, because I would like to know. And no one listens to me. He can't tell you! You're Seth Stohs!
  21. Very difficult to see an upside here. Deduno would be more interesting.
  22. Look at ex-Twins players who have gone on to hit better on their new teams. Vavra has to go. Anderson, too. There just comes a time when you have to go to these guys, thank them for their service, and point out that something has to change. They certainly know that something has to change. These things impact players all the time. Look what a difference having Showalter show up one day as the manager has made to the Orioles. Sometimes it just requires that you do something.
  23. Revere has the third highest batting average on the Twins so far this year. He has the 7th highest OBP, ahead of Plouffe, Doumit, Casilla, Parmelee, etc. Don't really understand why he is down in AAA. Did he find his way into Gardy's doghouse? Different opinion here, though. I would like to see him in CF and move Span to right. His arm 'weakness' would be more than compensated by the increase in coverage in both CF and RF.
