  1. Part of the really great thing about your post is the city that the story comes from. Surprise, AZ. There is no such thing as a coincidence.
  2. cmathewson had a reasonable business-based counter to my original post, but I agree with you, frightwig. In 2019 (or whenever it comes to be an issue) it will look pretty stupid that they gave up a year of control to try to salvage something out of the 2013 season. --
  3. Cannot really see Hicks or Gibson on the opening day roster. For a team that isn't going to threaten for the division championship it just doesn't seem like losing a year of control is worth it. Still, I suppose it could happen...
  4. Maybe more fun than any other article this year. Note: John Bonnes - stomach punch FrodaddyG - four horsemen williepbananas - pointing out that someone misread TOT (total) for Toronto edavis0308 - Black Knight etc. I love this place.
  5. Nice article by Parker about some changes to Dozier's swing. Hope that helps him. Plouffe can hit with power, but that seems new. He was not historically a masher in the minor leagues. There was no reason to expect an OPS of > .750. Maybe there is now? Best wishes to Benson. Was AA pitching the best he could master? Will he show us all that he will be hard to keep out of the lineup? Stay tuned! Gardy - I'll save my comments for another blog. Thank you Brad!
  6. The coaches must think Spring Training is good for something. Every now and then a player forces himself onto a team. Albert Pujols - 2001, Kent Hrbek - 1982. Whether it be footwork, follow-through or whatever, the coaches seem to think they learn a lot about the players.
  7. Why? He has never had an ERA under 4.00 nor a WHIP under 1.4 in 7 MLB seasons. (career ERA 5.59) Have the Twins decided to become 'Rehab Central' just out of charity? Or maybe they feel they don't have enough pitchers in camp.
  8. Details, details. This is really good news. Go Bruno!
  9. This is my first stop for baseball news. You have done a great job. Happy Birthday. And thank you.
  10. I am the most optimistic about Arcia & Rosario, in that order. Of course, I sure hope Sano winds up being all he's hyped up to be.
  11. Drew - I have not read anything about him yet for this year. Keep checking back, though. Seth or John or, well, somone who knows something will respond to this.
  12. I'll just weigh in as another that does not see $9.25 million as a good idea for Baker this year. I wish him all the best and expect he'll do OK, but that is too much to guarentee to a guy with his injury history.
  13. I appreciate loyalty, but I don't know if it is really the same in the sports business. Sometimes even good managers/head coaches have to go to make a statement to the team. You can't fire ALL the players.
  14. Campana is not much of a hitter. Perhaps they believe that they can put Benson or Hicks there and just deal with it. Of course, they would lose a year of control. I certainly don't understand what they're doing.
  15. If Jamey Carroll plays both SS and 2B does he only bat once? Fun stuff Seth. Thank you. Really like the Mauer, Morneau & Willingham numbers. Some pop in the lineup would be great.
  16. Agreed. This is going to be really hard to listen to.
  17. One thing I do not understand about the business side of baseball is how they can put bad product on the field several years in a row. The Orioles had a great season in 2012, but had a hell of a time getting people to come out to the ballpark. Although attendance jumped in the second half, the results were well below average for the year. They had not been competitive for years and lost fans. Once fans stop coming to the park it is difficult to get them to start coming out again. Putting a non-competitive team on the field 3 years in a row can be very, very costly.
  18. Anyone who gathers their lessons from baseball is a wise person, indeed. Thank you sbknudson. A wise person are you.
  19. Fun stuff to look at Angel Morales hasn't had an OPS higher than .715 since low A ball. I cannot be optimistic about his future. Neither Levi nor Niko at the SS position look to be any threat offensively. Not optimistic. Having been a catcher for years, pitchers always puzzle me. I wish these kids all the best, but there is a reason so few ball players ever make it to the major leagues. Maybe I'd be the most optimistic about Benson. In spite of the red flags from last year.
  20. Very nice article Physics Guy. Thank you. When we look at how Dozier hit last year after skipping AAA it makes me think that starting Hicks at CF this year would be a mistake. He has not been a monster at every level. He has taken some time to get used to the pitching at each new level. Having players learn in MLB usually works eventually, but at the cost of a year of control and sometimes the confidence of the player.
  21. Dozier in 2011 - .895 OPS in Fort Myers, .885 OPS in New Britain. His only time in AAA was last year. 200 PA, .623 OPS. OK, that was a tough year. Decent chance he can be very productive in MLB. I'd be amazed if they don't give him every opportunity.
  22. I like Morneau and still believe he will have a very good year in 2013. His future with the Twins is somewhat dependant on how welll Parmelee hits. If Morneau hits and Parmelee doesn't then no one is pushing Morneau out. Kennys Vargas just spent a year in Beloit. Another sideshow. Interesting to see how it unfolds.
  23. 64-98? When you think about losing 2 of the top 6 OBP guys (Span & Revere) this doesn't seem so unlikely. I expect Diamond to regress, but I like Worley. The rest of the starting rotation is a coin toss. Very difficult to project how all the rehab arms are going to play out. Still, 98 losses? Again? That is a big number.
  24. He's got the talking part down. Seems to have a good attitude. I am almost as anxious as he is to have him be an outstanding pitcher for the Twins.
  25. This is fun to see. Haven't followed Gopher baseball much since the days of Dick Siebert, but maybe I should. Especially given how competitive I expect the Twins to be.
