  1. The question is: Where does Drew Butera fit into all of this?
  2. Ah yes, September. The time of the year when it starts getting cooler, school begins again for all the kiddies, and, for the second year in a row, the Twins are so far out of contention that it's not even worth mentioning anymore. My question for you is, at what point do you stop caring if the Twins win or not? Obviously in a non-contending year like this one, it may have been easy to check out on the season mid-June, but I still cared whether they won or lost, on the off chance that they would reach a respectable record. Now, if I watch a game at all, I'm more than likely just closely watching a few Parmelee ABs, certain starting pitchers, or focusing on who's playing the best infield defense. I consider myself officially "checked out" on this basis, not whether or not I actually watch the games, because odds are being the baseball fan that I am, I'm still checking on every box score from every team every day and watching highlights and such. For me, there comes a point every year where I swap my Twins gear for Philadelphia Eagles and Fresno State gear. This year it was mid August. Have any of you checked out yet?
  3. I'm in, Shae Dougall
  4. Twins lose...who cares? Bigger story is that Hendriks was great tonight!
  5. I didn't even want to click on this thread because I'm so afraid that this is exactly what's going to happen. I don't think we're going to see much more from Plouffe this year because of the two-day injury which still seems to be affecting his swing at the plate, but that's fine. Let's wait till next year until we make an official judgment on the kid.
  6. A grand total of absolutely zero.
  7. http://espn.go.com/dallas/mlb/story/_/id/8301086/minnesota-twins-scott-diamond-suspended-six-games-throwing-josh-hamilton-head Thoughts? I think it's a ****load of ****.
  8. I assumed at the beginning of the year, they would be about .500. That's not going to happen. So, let's put them around 16 games under at 72-90.
  9. http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=11084089&c_id=mlb What a moment. 8-17-10 EDIT: Also, Matt Capps blew his sixth save of the year to get them into the 10th inning.
  10. Well it must have been Casilla last night, unless the two hits through the first seven innings are cause for a stroke. Either that or, a couple of base runners with a seven run lead causes yoor blood to boil. I never feel safe with a seven run lead anymore.
  11. Each sitting once a week is not a problem. It keeps everyone fresh and it keeps a decent option off the bench in key moments. Anybody on your roster playing once a week while the starters are trotted out every day is a bigger problem in my opinion. Besides... Sitting once a week is pretty darn close to "as close to as possible". I'm with you...isn't this why baseball allows teams to have "bench players"?
  12. If any post deserves being taken down and poster being banned (which I don't support BTW), this seems to reach that threshold. Being the naive ignorant guy that I am, and not knowing DPJ, I assumed it was good-natured sarcasm.
  13. I would be relatively happy with a $3 million deal for Casilla, especially if it's a multiyear one. Ultimately, he's not going to be an offensive juggernaut, but IMO, his defense this year has made up for it somewhat. He's not perfect, but I don't think the Twins can afford to throw away a semi-quality defensive middle infielder considering their other in house options next year are Mastroianni (who should still get a fair shot before the year is out), Nishijokeah, and Carroll (who obviously isn't terrible, but whose range leaves something to be desired). As for what I think will happen? Exactly what you said, the 2 year, give or take $3 million deal. He's probably not worth quite that much, but...so it goes.
  14. I didn't even notice it; does this make me a racist? What a joke. People need to stop getting so worked up over every little thing.
  15. I'm late to the party, but assuming he plays tonight, I'd like to begin the betting by saying Plouffe will have his first hit tonight after returning from the dreaded DL. It will be a double, and he will be 1-3 with a BB, and a backwards K.
  16. Personally, my blood pressure probably rises any time Deduno, DeVries, Duensing, Blackburn, or Gray are on the mound anyway, so it's tough for me to distinguish what causes it to rise, whether that be a lazy Casilla throw, a line drive to left field, or...well, any sort of ball put in play in general that isn't to RF.
  17. As long as we have Span in the organization, there's really no reason for Mastroianni to be in the outfield...and lo and behold, he hasn't been. Our options at 2B are Casilla and Carroll. I like Casilla defensively, but he just can't hit, and Carroll is such a middle of the road type player both offensively and defensively that he wouldn't be missed from the lineup. Just as there's no reason to put Maestro in the outfield when Willingham and Span aren't DHing/injured, there's no reason we shouldn't at least give him a series at 2B and see what he can do. The worst thing that happens is that he stinks, but at least we would know for sure and could have his bat and speed in the lineup every day if it did pan out.
  18. Every single Deduno start I expect it to be a complete disaster...and with one exception, they really haven't been. While that's certainly shocking, if Deduno wants to and is going to defy his own numbers time after time, I'm definitely going to be okay with trotting him out there every five days.
  19. 150 km/hr? What's that in American, like 300 mph?
  20. This is my last bash of Nishioka for the day...Having Nishi at 2B makes Dozier look like a gold glover at SS. Just sayin! EDIT: And one more thing, I would have been lying if I said I didn't expect Nishi to ground into a double play there...guess I was wrong!
  21. You misread me...cut it, not him. Nishioka has proved for almost two years now that he can't cut it, but I don't need to tell you that, I'm sure. As for cutting him, hopefully the front office realizes that this is a good idea.
  22. I'm actually interested to see how he reacts to the inevitable boos...will he need his translator to tell him what it means? In all seriousness, I do feel sorry for Nishioka, but if you can't cut it, you can't cut it...
  23. Bert just condemned Nishioka on air. "I think this three game series is an indication of what the Twins have to do [with Nishioka]."
  24. This is the absolute worst fielding performance I've ever seen in my life. If I never see Nishioka take the field again it will be too soon.
  25. That's three in a row, good grief!
