  1. What you're proposing makes way too much sense, a guarantee that Gardy would never consider it. Now, if there's another catcher who mashes lefties and occasionally can play 1B, Gardy would be all over it, can't have enough catchers, 3 just aint enough.
  2. Are you suggesting he is gone by July 31? I'm not sure they can get much for him the way he is going right now- but then again, selling at rock bottom has become the "Twins Way".
  3. Sorry for the appearances of snark, but I somehow think today the snark level at TD is rising faster than the Mississippi.
  4. I don't know, you should ask Ozzie. I'll take a stab at it, because a single w/ RISP results in one or two runs scored?
  5. Going out on a limb here, but I'm thinking your glass is always half-full, sorry but this one is a No-Sale, unless there's no Sale pitching. Blackie's luck is due to run out sooner than Sale's is.
  6. This one is the key to winning the series, because Thursday looks to be a loss w/ Sale vs. Blackie. The Twins own Floyd & should put up a big number on offense, but not sure if the Aussie can get mad enough at himself to keep AJ and Co. down. I fear for the high potential White Sox scoring total with Manship and Swarzack waiting in the wings in LR.
  7. I had confidence that you would do it. It looked more like Frankie the pitcher vs. Frankie the thrower...maybe there is something to this Butera Caddy thing after all...nah! Now, to win the series, Morneau has to follow through and get out of his funk against Floyd tomorrow. I'm thinking the team that reaches 9 runs first wins it, certainly more easily accomplished with Butera locked back up for another week in the bullpen. The Twins own Floyd (current Twins are batting .369/.420/.580/.1000), even Morneau, and Hendriks will need all the help he can get. They have to win tomorrow to get the series, because it seems likely that Blackie's recent luck runs out on Thursday against Sale.
  8. Someone commented earlier on Plouffe's markedly changed approach at the plate lately, looking like a RH Joe Mauer going almost exclusively to the opposite field. It appears he is suffering from information overload- 1) he "knows" they are pitching him away, 2) they "know" that he knows it, 3) inject the Vavra-esque advice regimen for becoming a GB/singles hitter, and Voila!, you have the "new and dis-improved Plouffe", higher OBP, GB and OPP field rates, markedly lower SLG . 4) In the meanwhile, that defensive plate approach has him swinging and missing badly at pitches that he was routinely parking in the seats just 10 days ago. I think it's time for yet another Parker-Slomo-Swing-Intervention Clinic.
  9. Listened to the press conference. I can count a half-dozen questions asked on this thread that should have been asked of Gardy, queston #1 is why Doumit didn't play, or at the very least, pinch hit in that situation. That was Managing 101 unless Doumit has an injury.
  10. I replayed it a few times, the ball was definitely in the air as Revere crossed the bag. The ump was a little biased toward raising the right arm a couple times time tonight. The play from Morneau to Carroll looked like that runner was safe, too.
  11. This causes me to start bringing in the nepotism topic from another thread. Somehow, I doubt the reason Sal JR catches for Liriano is because of his scholarly command of South American Spanish and Gardy's pledge of no more scholarships and no more 3 rostered catchers lasted about 30 days. Even his fielding statistics are below Bench level- and by that I mean Mrs. Bench.
  12. No one ever accused me of being a Marquis defender, I have no doubts about his impending regression to the mean. The point I'm making is you can't find another "Diamond" in the rough without searching every possible venue. They need SP arms for the long-term, but they also need SP arms for the short term. At this point, 3-4 mirages would look pretty good as short-term fixes.
  13. But look what happened with Marquis once he signed the Padres. A change of scenery sometimes is amazingly restorative. Regarding the Twins, if you're hungry and your only means of sustenance is a well, you have to keep sending down the bucket in hopes of finding a fish. The Twins should be looking to sign every pitcher in the waiver-wire well.
  14. Has anyone seen Ryan Doumit's face on the side of any milk cartons? One day off, yes, but two straight days? Yes, Liriano is pitching (Son of Sal caddy duty), but unless he's hurt, how do you keep his bat out of the lineup again? He's only the top hitting MLB catcher over the last 7 days. Here's his line: .467/.467/.733/.1200, with a .515 WOBA. Hey, at least we have a good PH option available. I just like riding those hot bats as long as possible, especially in a big series like this.
  15. 1) Fine, but I think there were better alternative options to solving the LHP shortage that would not have made this move necessary. 2) I have nothing against guys like Toby following their dream, I just hope that all of his years in the system didn't delay someone else more deserving from developmental time or being signed in the first place. Regarding the Son of Sal, it could be suggested that the Twins found it rather easy to dump proven major league catchers which resulted in giving Butera more MLB service time. In both cases, not accusing anyone here, just appearances and such.
  16. That would be my observations about how runs are scored, as well, and stop calling me Shirley. That is why I was asking for some words of encouragement. Thanks for the supplemental data, I'm glad to see that this season may be anomalous. But the move from NBR to ROC hasn't necessarily given me hope that he can put out the fire, NOW, at the MLB level, when he comes into the middle of an inning. I know it's just one season of data (but it is AAA), but are you seriously suggesting, or are you jokin, that these I-League numbers inspire you? Robertson as a Red Wing: v LHB: 167/262/204/466 v RHB: 288/348/475/823 A mythical RHB would be a top-20 I-League All Star with those numbers, while he is clearly one of the top 5 pitchers against lefties. Either he normalizes towards his New Britain numbers to smooth out this discrepancy or this one looks like a LOOGY to me.
  17. I don't doubt everything you say about Robertson. But unfortunately, it does highlight just another continuing problem within the organization. Blatant nepotism. Counting the days until Lombardozzi's acquired in another unfavorable swap with the Nats.
  18. Add reasons to watch: 1) Dozier made a series of good-to-great plays. In the field, he is maturing right before our eyes. 2) Mauer's heightened interest level, in the dugout, behind the plate, in the batters box. 3) Diamond. And not just his all-day battle with Votto, ie, he hit Votto early on, and then hit Phillips to load the bases and pitched out of it. He has now actually found a strikeout pitch with his mixing and matching skills. Gives high hopes for the future. 4) Brandon Phillips. You have to see him play to appreciate just how good he really is. Stole a bunch of hits from the Twins all weekend. He's the best fielding 2B in baseball IMO. 5) Aroldis Chapman. Did I mention the Chapman-Mauer battle? All right, I did already. Epic regular season game battle that can't be reiterated enough. Chapman has previously hit 106 on the gun and averages 15.7 K/9 with a .76 WHIP. Scary good while still with upside at only 24 years of age.
  19. I like what the home-state guy, Thielbar has been doing at AA and AAA, pretty much lights out (although he got nicked for 1 today). I suppose it's a 40-man decision to go with Robertson, then. I still don't get why they keep going back to the wishing well with Duensing as a LHSP. I think he has found his proper role on the team and given what you said the lefty alternatives are at ROC and Duensing's predictable 4th inning meltdown, they need to look at other options at SP and keep the two proven lefties in the bullpen.
  20. 1)It rarely is worth an investment of time in re-watching a game or knowing the outcome in advance, this is one of those great exceptions. I highly recommend to watch the rebroadcast tonight. 2) Plouffe broke out his own slump today, Mauer out of his leadership slump, Diamond out of his of-late pitching woes, no reason you can't break out of your own slump tomorrow night. Here's a hopeful prediction: Morneau is batting 333/385/1167/1551 against the Sox this season. How about a break out from his own slump tomorrow night against Peavy? I'm actually looking forward to this series if the Twins can start playing like today more often and nothing gets the juices flowing like going up against AJ.
  21. My bad then, given there weren't even any college-level words in your thesis, I thought I understood what you said perfectly well. I wasn't aware that you just infrequently pop in from Delphi to deign upon the masses your varied and assundry Oracles. Perhaps it might work just as well for you to make your point better by dumbing it down even lower so even us peons can understand.
  22. I can't disagree with one thing you've said and I readily admit to holding strongly to my own point of view, no reason on my part to contribute to any Strib-equivalent "devolvement", though.
  23. I definitely like his size. His stats this year, though, are a cause for concern. 0.00 ERA w/ bases empty, K/9=10.4, so far so good, but 6+ ERA with runners on, 9.5+ERA with RISP and 6+ERA/.288 BA against RHB. Looks like Gardy will carefully have to choose his spots or he's, at best, just a stop-gap LOOGY. Can you give me any cause for hope and better expectatons?
  24. Spit-take, monitor-drenched! Take that tongue out of your cheek, notorious...
  25. Baxendale, for all intents and purposes, tweeted his good-byes and thank yous to his teammates and Razorback fans, so it's fair to think that he is looking to sign soon. His performance against SC on Saturday suggests potential upside (trying to be optimistic here) towards a Radke level of performance, but I think the best we should hope for realistically is as a capable back-end SP in Sep 2014/2015 (with all his innings this year, likely shut down until AFL or 2013, delaying signing until the deadline?)
