  1. One HOFers did for sure. Carlton Fisk.
  2. Hope you will settle for PJ Walters and his old mean self in the role "Sal The Barber Maglie" role, tomorrow. Correia is complaining about arm problems, has been dropped and is now penciled in for Monday against Milwaukee. Pelfrey is also complaining about arm soreness, but is still officially listed as Sunday's starter...not to worry, Swarzy and Duensing should be ready for a spot start in the breach. Wow, this team is already on the brink on May 24.
  3. 130 pitches? Gardy would have done the prudent thing with him and yanked him after 7.
  4. These are the things, at near age 26, you want your best prospect, not your best suspects, to work on in the major leagues in a season they obviously have already punted- especially a prospect on an innings limit.
  5. Huh? Handling him with kid gloves? By allowing him to throw 114 pitches in one complete game, followed two games later with another complete game? Doesn't sound like this one will wash.
  6. Above slot strenghtens the case I orginally made, if in fact what you say is true. For such a prized prospect, his career has been bungled by the Twins from the outset. Shut down in August, despite Gibson complaining about arm trouble all year, surgery then delayed to November, seems to have been more than ready last year, followed by a strong AFL season, yet still not ready to debut? That's what I call slow-playing.
  7. I'd love to hear their rationale for the basis of that belief. I'd even tend to give it credence if it didn't involve the other obvious financial stumbling block that's out there--- You know, I know it, the Chief knows, the Twins know it.
  8. Uhh, he just saved the bullpen in Roc. with a recent 9 inning game, followed in the start after next with a near-no-hit 9 inning game. Another poor excuse by the Twins if they are indeed following this line of rhetoric.
  9. Very interesting. Let's get Jeremy for the video breakdown. Liriano hasn't pitched against any good-hitting teams, yet. But if he returns remotely close to 2010 form he will have to a prime contender for Comeback POY- and more egg on the face of the Twins philosophy.
  10. I concur on the dusty and outdated philosophy. Yet another reason why this organization cries out for the need of a complete culture change. And now they're trying to play catch-up instead of bringing in core competency to do it right.
  11. Jim Kaat was essentially done at age 35 when he left the Twins, only to become a very effective quick-pitch pitcher for the White Sox and in the process extending his career into his mid-40s to the point that he became a borderline consideration for the HOF.
  12. Joe Mauer's 2013 slash line: .339/.416/.476/.892 Twins SP 2013 op. slash line: .334/.395/510/.906 As hard as it might be to grasp, the League is better than Joe Mauer against the Twins starting pitching.
  13. I had forgotten that he was injured with respect to the draft time-frame- but the Twins were still willing to pay at slot for a virtually major-league ready college pitcher and then slow-played his 2011 TJ surgery and recovery and are obviously bungling this promotion. I stand by the assertion that given the alternatives, Gibson would already be in the rotation on most every other major league team right now.
  14. The question is academic, the more important question to ask- given the horrific, yet very predictable, "results"- is: Is this horrendous outcome a combined result of a Twins management (that concocted this thing as a viable ML entity) and the Twins coaching staff (whose pitching theories have produced, individually and collectively, career-low and league-low numbers for most statistical measures of the members of the staff and of the team) are 1) too cheap, 2) incompetent, 3) philosophically obsolete, 4) didn't try very hard, or 5) just didn't care--- or-- All of the Above? (sorry, just had to say it)
  15. "Other options" indeed, for "whatever reasons"? seems obvious to me. Always playing for tomorrow by saving an extra buck today. 6 years in the minors, 6 cost-controlled years in the majors seem to be the guiding priority (with few exceptions when there no "other options"-option kicks in, there's that phrase again!) over actually putting the best team on the field.
  16. You're right. Gibson was actually far more ready to pitch in the majors coming out of the draft than Porcello (some clubs would have had Gibson signed and playing in 2009 and starting in the majors in 2010) and less ready than the other two elite pitchers. But the point remains the same, when your first round pick is handled this poorly (from the delay in his signing, to the delay in his TJ surgery, to the delay in his promotion, blind to the facts that he's now more than a year and a half beyond TJ and is likely a better SP, right now, than almost anyone on the current staff) it really is disgusting.
  17. This should be rephrased in the form of a question by the media, and directed yet again to the FO.
  18. Before I specifically critique anyone from the front office, I'd like to hear how you support the quality of a job that a guy like Antony has done.
  19. Not to do any self-back-patting here, but this was an all-too-predictable move, right out of their worn and tattered playbook. Meanwhile, other organizations have their prized players pitching as soon as possible, Bundy and Gausman in the case of the Orioles, we know all about the Nationals and Rays, even Porcello in the case of the Tigers (5 year veteran at age 24- yes Gibson had TJ, but he appears to be far beyond that surgery- Gibson at 25 is actually 14 months OLDER than Porcello- both drafted late in the First Round of their respective drafts, 2 years apart).
  20. I wonder how long does that one gets by the censors...?
  21. AA is like that too, on most nights.
  22. I think the Twins are looking for more consistency.
  23. Using an example from tonight. I knew Rick Porcello was young. I went through his numbers tonight and I didn't realize that he was in the Tigers rotation all year for Detroit at the age of 20- this after just one minor league year in A+ ball. He hasn't had a great career, but here now in his 5th year at only age 24, he'd clearly be the #2 SP on the Twins; but.....; if he had been drafted by the Twins, does anybody think he would be a 5 year veteran of the Twins rotation?
  24. Unless the rules have changed, the stats always count, even if the game doesn't. That's why you sometimes get players that are listed with games played being more than 162 games.
