  1. Still have to have the name of the 60-day guy to square the circle.
  2. Patience!!! A+/AA/AAA, and then, maybe....wouldn't want to jeopardize his future....
  3. Delbi Romero?
  4. Who do they call up to take Plouffe's place tomorrow morning when he goes on the 7-day concussion DL? Colabello or Delbi Romero?
  5. How many teams could Sano be starting for, right now? (OK, not necessarily at Third Base, but come on, look at some of the paltry BA and OPS around both leagues, right now!)
  6. You are treading in Gardy "simple stuff" territory. It's how he always has done it, 9 times out of 10 it doesn't work out, but hey, he's going by the time-tested "book".*** ***Not sure how long it's been out of print, actually.
  7. OK, then.....Would senility and dementia need to be added to your reasons for calling for Gardy's dismissal?
  8. Stating it kindly, yeah, since he make more sense than you do. May was a 4th round pick- so 3 out of 7 is not "dominated". He correctly showed that you can acquire prospects like May and Meyer by trading for them- that knocks your "dominated" list down to 2 out of 7. Gibson was a late first rounder, Hicks mid, both have a lot left to prove. Care to try again?
  9. Good points, and Mauer is BABIPing over 84 points above his career numbers. (Going into Sunday's game, Mauer's May BABIP was a ridiculous .667).
  10. In a "pitcher's league", no less.
  11. Not in the Rays financial position, service time is a secondary concern. They have a long history to move guys up that they've identified with talent and then look to move them while either just entering their prime or in it, often before their ceiling has been established, to better themselves in the process, rather than letting players just walk away. The exception to the rule, BJ Upton, turned down the Rays QO (and the Rays couldn't get anyone to give them their customary one-sided deal before he became a FA), so they again made the smart move, to Atlanta's long-term detriment.
  12. Not a chance. Who exactly is Dave St Peter the boss of?
  13. I was suspended for making this quote a headline to a thread.
  14. Amateurs aren't in the union, but the members of the Players Union are, and with only so many dollars available year-over-year, why would they want potential major league dollars that "should" be going to free agent vets tied up in unproven and possibly bust-level talent?
  15. You did mark me down for the "under"...right?
  16. Pelfrey career stats vs. Braves: 5.65 ERA 1.75 WHIP....so there's a chance for Pelf to improve on his season stats!
  17. Can I get some action on the under? Quick question? The underlying, unsaid stat is identifying who the #1 K-guy is on the Twins. Pitching all of 14+ innings, that would be Perkins. Is there a way to make a quick (and free) check to determine the last time the 8th inning set-up guy and the Closer led the entire staff in Ks for a season? I'd say Perk and Burton have a fighting chance to make it happen.
  18. Interesting perspectives. But I would argue that Deduno generates some buzz among Twins fans, too. If it was really a financial move, the logical call-up would have been PJ Walters, who is coming off of a very good start on Saturday, and appears to be more than ready compared with the other options, besides Gibson, of course (actually their numbers are virtually identical, with only Gibson's FIP of 2.74 vs Walters 3.09 being slightly better). Funny that Walters is not more in the call-up conversation...
  19. Yeah, TR doesn't want to go out of his way to remind anyone it looks like he hung another Blackburn around his neck for the next 2 seasons... I'm hoping like heck that KC can pitch well enough into the deadline and gives TR the chance to surgically remove that albatross.
  20. Does Gardy have to call TR for permission to put Carroll into the starting lineup? It certainly isn't due to Carroll's BA against Hudson (.091). Doumit in RF over the "scuffling" rookies? Could be extra adventuresome in the OF tonight....
  21. I think Top Gun is taking his scattershot approach to (re-)posting to a whole new level!
  22. McLouth isn't a great CF, but he's a gamer like Pedroia, and he would have fit perfectly into the Twins clubhouse and "Twins Way" culture. Regarding both he and Kelly Johnson, it was sad to see that the Twins were obviously set in stone on a single course of action, with no Plan B alternatives even open to discussion. I especially hate the concept of a Chinese Water Torture, multi-year rebuilding when you have chosen to keep, and even extend in a case like Doumit's, the high-priced, but necessary, core veterans, and the more than ample additional payroll space to turn things around much sooner by making a few bold and decisive signings to complement that core, ala the Indians.
  23. I, for one, mention that about Butera, as often as possible.
  24. I would say you are being somewhat kind with respect to 2B and CF, in whose particular cases I would say the results have been somewhere just short of Nishi-Nagasaki-like. The first signs of Dozier's defense collapsing, following his offense down the tubes, as in 2012, seems to be in the works already. Compare this 2013 stat line of Dozier's - .205/.250/.279/.529 with this one- .272/.345/.488/.833, with 7 HRs. These numbers could have been had with a February signing, if the Twins had not decided their acquisition phase was done in December. Kelly Johnson was signed for only $2.45M, and if he was playing 2B full-time for the Rays, he would rank among the top 5 at that position. I know they would never have gotten involved with Bourn, but how about Hicks and a comp with yet another bargain basement, $2M FA signing with these 2013 numbers: .277/.365/.423/.789? That would be Nate McLouth. Just the insertion of these 2 players into the Twins lineup as the fallback players when Dozier and Hicks inevitably failed--- and one better pitching acquisition---- and I think we could be writing a wholly different "Transaction Time" thread.
  25. Plouffe is a butcher in the field, but his batting numbers are solidly above average for all 3B, even surprisingly, his Isolated Power #. At is stands right now, he ranks 12th in OPS, ISO, SLG, BA and WOBA among all Third Basemen If he goes even on a limited (in comparison to last year's mind-blowing) power tear or two, his comparative to league average comps will skyrocket.
