  1. Delbinson Romero swaps places with Nate Hanson- going to Rochester, Ray Olmedo isn't looking over his shoulder anymore for Delbinson, he's there. Romero must have been playing a lot of ball back in the DR waiting for the via situation to be resolved, he has hit the ground running.
  2. In addition to your excellent points about the umpiring, I believe it's important to not be discouraged at outings like this. The results you cite are right in line with the typical shaky minor league defense behind him- his FIP is ~1.10 Runs below his ERA. Can I make this even more of a positive? He's virtually tied for 2nd in the Eastern League in that category with Kevin Gausman, who is almost exactly one year younger than Meyer. And of course, the Orioles have aggressively put Gausman in their starting rotation beginning tonight. Meyer's control isn't where Gausman is yet, but he has a higher K/9 rate and part of the small difference in ERA is BABIP-related. If he keeps this up, there's no reason we can't see him this year, September call-up, or sooner.
  3. The report I got was from 2012 and said his FB was hitting in the mid-80s. Here's an excerpt from ESPN1500 from May 12, 2013: "Ryan said Albers has "left-handed funk" and that he "relies a lot on deception." That could be said for a lot of successful left-handers in the game, past and present. But what the Twins organization likes about Albers is that he's not afraid to throw strikes -- even as a soft-tosser -- with an arsenal that isn't the traditional sinker-slider that one might expect out of a contact pitcher.' That shouldn't make anyone comfortable that Alber's stuff automatically translates to the majors.
  4. We all know it, but Twins management insists that they need to see more consistency from Gibson before he's worthy of the call. No such "criteria" is needed for Walters, you know what you're going to get from Walters provided he's healthy. Regarding Albers, I'd like nothing better than to see him called up and succeed, but his current stuff (FB in the mid-80s?) apparently doesn't translate to the majors, ala Slama.
  5. Perfect example, which Worley is the real one? Last Friday's good Vanimal? Or today's Bagger Vance? Methinks he too, is still recovering his form from elbow surgery, time in Roc. can serve him well, assuming he works hard to make the necessary adjustments. Still, it's on Ryan for acquiring multiple sore-armed SPs and expect to sell to the public that everything has now become immediate seashells and balloons.
  6. And he's also best buddies with Selig (and was with Carl Pohlad). Cuban would have to learn from his previous acquisition blockages to find an ironclad work-around to this impediment
  7. With that provision, I'd gladly accept change of ownership to an entity with different priorities. Mark Cuban would fill the bill nicely.
  8. Since April 19, his OPS is .742, which is 105 points higher than his career OPS number of .637. Since Mayberry has been given the gig (same time frame), his OPS is .565. A bad first 2 weeks does not a season make, nor does a hot following month, let's see how it plays out.
  9. Given your proposal that at least two of the guys from last year are "better", to me the question is: What was the point??? (in getting the new guys in the first place).
  10. Playing irregularly will do that to your numbers.
  11. Is salt-rubbing always your answer for every self-inflicted wound?
  12. I think it's worth reopening the debate about having a couple of 3x3IP pitching options in place of the 7.00+ ERA guys.
  13. Excellent, except the Twins had the money to do a little of both! (A topline starter for big bucks- an inexpensive MI and CF and an additional cheap SP)
  14. You want stats? Check Gibson and Walters stats. They're virtually identical. Though I'm not a PJ fan, I think you're wishcasting Albers' chances for success as Albers is basically Slama in the Twins way of thinking.
  15. I should have put a laughing smiley right after my "link in triplicate" remark.
  16. Back to my point.... Span and Revere we're 20th and 28th, respectively, and were used to acquire pitching prospects that people are now excited about (Meyer was a #23 pick, btw). Gibson was 22nd. Hicks was 14th. So you don't need a bunch of top 5 picks to get good young talent. The Twins would have a formidable rebuild underway even if they didn't have Buxton. He does make it all that much sweeter, but he's just the most recent (and maybe most distant) piece. I'm not saying it doesn't help to get early picks or that they're not valuable (that argument is from other posters), just that the argument that you need to be terrible to rebuild is false. "Almost every team"? When a person asks others to document his assertions, isn't it incumbent upon him to likewise show the "exhaustive" studies that "solved" that particular claim?
  17. I've given them on this very board.
  18. Mike, I was being entirely facetious, as I have been chastised for saying much the same thing.
  19. 1)Evan Gattis and Dan Uggla would beg to differ (just to take the most recent opponent example). 2)This article doesn't necessarily show what you have been arguing, and supports my argument- the Twins 1st round draft picks were late in that round. The article is not talking about the round, but the number taken in the draft. And the teams that repeatedly draft in the top 5 picks are generally the same ones, year after year, only Tampa Bay and Washington have been able to escape from your "optimal strategy", and they still look years away from legitimately being considered World Series contenders- and which in real practice has led to year after year of futility for most of the others who choose to go that route. And the timing for the Twins- who have just moved into a new stadium based on the premise that Target Field will make them immediately a legit and continually competitive club against the big-market teams- in accepting the premise that they voluntarily tank for 4 years, would permanently damage the team's credibility down to Miami Marlins level.
  20. Some would term that response "rude". You are required to link everything, in triplicate...
  21. What? No PJ love on this board?
  22. OK, but can I at least say "maybe" to skepticism?
  23. I think you need more depth of information to appreciate what Sano is doing in the Florida State League, I for one have no doubt about his ability to handle AA or AAA pitching. His current league is renowned as being owned by the pitchers, the proof is all there in the numbers. It's really the reverse-PCL. Besides Sano leading his nearest competitor for the lead in FSL OPS avg. by an astounding, no, make that incomprehensible, 230 points (.1165 to .935), here is the recent history for OPS leaders in the league: 2012: .911 (one player over .900) 2011: .919 (one player over .900) 2010: .910 (one player over .900) 2009: .824 (zero players over .900) 2008: .959 (three players over .900) 2007: .973 (two players over .900) 2006: .897 (zero players over .900) 2005: .978 (2 players over .900) What he's doing is really unprecedented. His manager says he could be playing in the majors right now. I think the only thing holding him back at all is the glove.
  24. Kind of a busy night, Seth? Do you see any domino effect of promotions kicking in with the roster openings becoming available at the major league level?
  25. Can he even get there by the 11AM game time ?
