  1. I guess somebody finally got to Cuddy about laying off that low and outside 2-strike slider....
  2. I didn't think you were being at all snarky. This board tends to go completely from one extreme to the other. I fully expect Gibson to have a couple rocky outings (or more), despite what ends up getting posted after his first or second bad outing, as you said, it would be true of most rookies. I'm pumped, no matter how this plays out, pitching success or failure, innings-restricted and shut down, or not. The whole point in getting him up here for major league innings is that: 1) with all his hard work he's put in to come back, he's earned it, big time. 2) the whole point of this season was preparing for, and determing the future course of the franchise, he's slated for a big part of that future. 3) the more big league innings he puts in now, the more he has to build on in the offseason and next year, hopefully moving up your timeline towards #2 SP status.
  3. You asked "whatever will we do?" Simple. How about instead, we follow the narrative of other presently successful teams that have successfully fast-tracked their future star players more quickly to major league success>? Simple, really it is.
  4. I think it can't be said enough....NOW is the time for patience...... let's really be fair and see how he responds to this new challenge and give him plenty of room to grow.
  5. I can see why you're being sarcastic, because you have totally misconstrued what my post stated. Well done. As I stated in my previous post, I want my club, that has been among the worst in all of baseball going on three years, to show a little more urgency and be willing to take on small risks like promoting guys that offer a legitimate way out of this mess a little sooner, rather than a little later. If this was Oakland or Tampa, with no fan base or revenue streams locked in, the expectations would logically be adjusted accordingly. Is it that hard to understand this basic concept?--- because you completely missed it.
  6. Again, please address this remark to the person that made it, don't conflate everyone into your opening statement. You specifically said "C'mon people." One person went on about Butera and yet you said that all "the complaining around here was getting tiresome." People have been banned for less on this board. And again, not "incompetence", other than thrylos and a very few others, no one's advocating that absolutist positon.... but "ultra-cautious", "misguided", "risk-averse", "obfuscating", "outmoded", "frugal" "thrifty" and "cheap" work pretty well. For me it comes down to this. It's a matter of tastes. I'd rather a mistake made on the side of what Rizzo and Duquette are willing to risk than what Ryan is not willing to risk.
  7. But what you're proposing is taking away my right to be even happier and more excited.
  8. Yep. Pretty common ground here. The big thing with Gibson was that the organization let it be known in the spring that he would be "monitored closely" and was going to be limited in his 2013 innings. The "monitor closely" part just seemed to miss the forest for the trees the last month, and many of us didn't want the self-imposed innings restriction to end up making 2013 largely a wasted year for Gibbie in AAA, rather than to jump into the deep end of the pool at the major league level and getting the acclimation curve of his career over with now. These 4 starts missed in June and lets split the difference, 2 starts in May, totaling 6 could have been over half of the major league innings he's going to log in this year. He likely only has 6 starts if the club plays it conservatively (shocker! I know...) and shuts him down closer to 130 rather than 140-50.
  9. Touche' You could feel the "I told you so" knives getting sharpened when Sano struggled coming out of the gate in New Britain. Hopefully, these same types won't "tut-tut" if Gibson's first few outings go like some of Gausman's have gone.
  10. Except asking why Gibson was not being promoted was not based on any "whims," evidence was presented from past promotions for why he should get the call, the Twins starting pitching staff has been the worst in baseball, and since the beginning of May, Gibson has easily exceeded the alleged impediments that were supposedly hindering his promotion. There are some that have alleged the front office is "full of idiots", but most of the dissent has been rational and evidentiary. Buxton and Sano have finally been promoted, and now Gibson. Better late than never, but there are sound reasons to consider a faster-track than the course the Twins almost always follow. Buxton and Sano are special and should be treated as such, and after making adjustments in April, Gibson has clearly been ready for promotion for over a month now.
  11. Asking reasonable questions of the club you are following for why they do what they do is not whining.
  12. Sounds reasonable. It seems like its been a long time coming, by all accounts this kid is a worker and internally driven for accepting nothing less than excellence. I think Dougie Mint is just the right guy (has been all along) to tweak and motivate this guy to quickly move through this level, as well. How many managers get to actually play baseball with a HOF number-type guy in High School (A-Rod) and then have the opportunity to manage not one, but 2 sky's-the-limit potential guys in one season? He appears to have done right by Sano- Miguel ended up doing unprecedented things in the FSL, no reason to think that he won't tap into Buck's full potential, too. Exciting time to ponder the Twins near future. On a selfish note, thanks Twins, for getting this promotion done just in time for my July Florida vacation!
  13. I didn't say the Twins were incompetent and I didn't say anything about Butera's potential call-up, to associate everyone in one camp is recklessly painting with a broad brush. Regarding "prudence" on the part of the Twins FO, they historically seem to make most of their groundbreaking significant moves, only when their hand is forced to do so. In effect- Necessity becomes the mother of "prudence."
  14. You talk of "the people" like they are all one and the same. Not necessarily so. And until they can factually refute it, the first part of your "tiresome" comparative rant fits perfectly how the Twins have handled Gibson by needlessly delaying his call-up. FYI, the Twins SP still ranks as last in all of baseball in ERA of 5.25- to not have given a Gibson call-up sooner, given the level of ongoing Rotation Ineptitude and guys throwing start after start with little future promise is going to forever be a head scratcher.
  15. Sounds like "toy cannon" might be his best position. There are probably good reasons why Pinto has been waiting for the big opportunity in the organization for 8 years- this is just one of them.
  16. Official scoring is horrendous, and the people with the most right to complain are the pitchers. FYI, Pinto's errors sure sound legit in the box score- dropped ball, throwing error.
  17. Gardy said as much in the postgame. "Just a tweek" that should work itself out with the day off.
  18. And by "good news" and "ready to go again", you of course mean that SOS is firmly back in his hitting comfort zone groove, what with him sporting his current .179 AAA BA and all. It's comforting to know that Gardy will sleep well tonight knowing that Drew's sub-Mendoza self can be on a plane to Miami tonight and won't have to be driving cross-country in a sub-compact Rent-A-Wreck like peons like Hernandez had to endure.
  19. In the postgame, Timmy (no surprise here as a former catcher) laid some of the blame for Doumit's poor baserunning execution and subsequent injury on Plouffe for not giving Dooms the "slide" signal. Yet another FSN guy who gets, and reads the memo on the priority list for who gets thrown under the bus.
  20. Pinto's 2 errors in today's came help to underscore your excellent breakdown. Pinto's 8 years in the Twins organization without sniffing AAA are a reflection of how the FO feels about his awful defense. I'm afraid that Pinto is destined to more likely a Jose Morales Twins experience at the low side than a Brian Harper experience for the upside.
  21. The Willihammer with yet another "DRS" pep talk for Parm. Could you make this an everyday occurrence when Parmelee is in the lineup?- your method seems to work well.
  22. Thanks, Seth. I'm always on the lookout for lefties and Ibarra seems to have resuscitated his career back from the dead. I asked about his stuff and potential LOOGY limitations based on his 2013 ridiculous split of .293 OBA to right handers and .088 to lefties. Other than that little 3 consecutive game rough patch at the end of May, the guy's been lights out all season and appears to be ready for a promotion to Rochester.
  23. Kind of supports my Twins SOP cookie-cutter comfort zone theory, doesn't it?
  24. You obviously haven't read the articles that I have, then. Comments from opposing GMs and scouts go something like this: "Buxton is a better athlete than A-Rod" "What is Sano still doing at this level?" "The Twins are well-know for moving prospects very slowly, but this is different" "This guy is a crazy-good athlete" "Guys like this only come along once every 10 years, no 20 years" "I thought it was a mistake to keep Sano at Beloit all season." "Buxton clearly looks too advanced for this level" "Not sure what he has left to prove..." "Buxton has soared up the prospect rankings to #2 overall" "If you see this guy run, it's freaking unreal...five steps and he's on the bag" Again, Machado, Harper and Trout are already well on their way in their careers, after putting up numbers similar or inferior to Sano and Buxton. These guys should be pushed, challenged and then rewarded with promotions, not eased along on the 6 year plan like Oswaldo Arcia was (Sano will be 6 year planned if he makes it in 2015). These are elite-level-potential game changers, not just "Twins plan" plodding cookie-cutter, dime-a-dozen prospects. What Sano has done is virtually unprecedented, and Buxton's legend around the entire world of baseball grows by the day.
