  1. Not another Levi Michael, I hope. Since we are clean out of surpluses at premium positions, I would strongly suggest looking at spending some money in the International market and finding the next Jurickson Profar... although I'd be happy to settle for Jose Iglesias or Didi Gregorius. That way is going to probably take some developmental time... in the meantime, Yunel Escobar could possibly be a FA if the Rays don't exercise their option. The Rays have a surplus of SS, including Hak-Ju Lee- who appears to be ready for a call-up. Assuming the Twins have no shot in a trade for Lee, get Escobar... he has shown the requisite remorse, the Twins should be able to sign Escobar at a fair contract, baggage and all (He's currently making $5M/yr), -add some behavior and performance sweeteners and get it done.
  2. Considering that Correia has a 6.60 ERA in his first innings this season, could we all just get along and compromise and have Fien pitch the first and Correia go 2-6?
  3. Revenge is best served Cold. Justice is best served Hot. 20 year old,Sano, entering his 3rd week playing in a League with a median age of 24, is now OPSing at .831. 19 year old Buxton, finishing his 3rd game playing in a League with a median age of 23 is OPSing at .368. Bets on the Over-Under from their current OPS-rates come July 31? I'm going with Justice.
  4. Ahh, yes, i concur..... but actually at this point, it turns out that that was the easy choice.... amd now, who would you want to start in the game just preceding that one game playoff?... the game that clinched the chance to be in the one-game playoff?
  5. It seems like the big difference is that the third time through the order, he still frequently gets ahead 0-2 or 1-2 like the previous at-bats, but this time around he's throwing fat and up in the zone meatballs and then the whole thing comes cascading down. I was very surprised Gardy even considered throwing Diamond out there in the 6th. He looks like his confidence has been crushed by the recent turn of events. It could be a function of a health issue not yet public, lack of arm strength, or needed mechanical adjustments, or all of the above.
  6. A little work by Gleeman, with a slightly broader set of data would make a slightly more valid point. Twins record vs. teams w/ a winning record: 16-26 Twins record vs. teams w/ a losing record: 18-14 The Twins are 1-5 this year against KC. Their next 4 games are with the Royals, followed by 14 straight games in 14 days with teams with winning records from the Eastern Division. Let's revisit how the Twins are doing after they run this next gauntlet of 18 games going into the Break.
  7. Both comments are directly attributable to what the Twins FO decided to do--- ie, that they definitely wouldn't choose to contend in the present... and what they won't do to make themselves better contenders in the future. You, yourself had your "hopes" up last offseason that they would make legitimate upgrades at the top of the rotation- instead, they chose to sign a wounded-wing #5 and a recently demoted Pirate #6- which was essentially a repeat of their acquisition strategy going into 2012.... and you said you would hold them accountable if they failed to do better than that. What evidence leads you to think they will act any differently this coming offseason?
  8. You may as well start fitting Albers for his new nickname. We've reached another new low in Twins Starting Pitcher history. With Diamond's inevitable demotion, we'll be back to one SP left from the April rotation.
  9. Dick and Dan disagree. I think Slowey killed both of their dogs and abandoned both of their sisters.
  10. Galling and ironic. I felt Dick audibly gritting his teeth as Slowey wormed his way through inning after inning. Slowey probably worked his way back into the rotation with his effort.
  11. That very script has written itself since Hicks went on the shelf and I surmised as such. The Twins desperately needed an alternative in CF, for the short-term at least, they now have one- plus they have the added benefit of a guy who actually has shown any ability whatsoever to bat lead off for the Twins. It would make perfect sense that now is the time not to rush Hicksie's return. The issue can be revisited some time after the All Star break if Thomas just maintains something close to his current production level.
  12. Great point. If the listless performance against Miami wasn't convincing enough, people need to consult the calendar heading into the break. Truly the Eastern Division schedule of death. The Blue Jays are the hottest team in baseball with Jose Reyes soon back, playing in Tampa usually never goes well for the Twins, or New York- and the Yankees have Nova back (he owns the Twins) and very soon after, Teixeira should be back by the Twins @ home series, and then maybe, Granderson @ New York.
  13. Answer. A very good starting pitcher for the Marlins, who are actually playing quite well of late (13-9), haven't given up more than 3 runs in 9 straight games. Red Dog is doing a good job in Miami, and they got back a couple of good bats off the DL. The Twins looked like they were coming off a South Beach hangover, 3 errors and a few other botched efforts in the field and at the plate. Tomorrow should be better, Tom Koehler is awful in day games (.939 OPS, 6.75 ERA) and is very hittable overall by lefities (.463 SLG, .807 OPS). If the Twins do as well as they should against a guy so hittable, I expect this will be Koehler's last start for the Marlins, for now , anyway.
  14. That post probably put you on "negativity watch". Too close to the truth for some tastes on this board. I was stunned that Pelfrey was with the big club on opening day, 11 months out of TJ surgery. What did the Twins see going in to April 1st that suggested that Pelfrey could defy historical medical trends?
  15. How soon do they get to play together with DJ Baxendale at New Britain?
  16. Brian Roberts started his rehab assignment in Norfolk last night, Lexi is just being Lexi, putting his annual sporadic push on in his usual attempt to appear to be "just good enough" to keep his roster spot.
  17. Sorry Thrylos, Casilla has to go down in Twins history as one of the All-Time greatest teases. As good as he looked in sporadic flashes, especially in the field, Lexi pretty much ended up bungling every long-term starting job he ever was assigned to on the Twins.
  18. .676? Yes, but aren't those batting stats inflated by the "Alps-Effect"? Yodel ay hee hoo!!!, indeed.
  19. Hicksie hits the ground running...3/4 w/ a double...nice to see no signs of rust in his swing and no apparent impediment in his running abilities.
  20. I see what you did there....and I liked it... anyways.... a lot better than how he effected (sic) my affection for this particular game. I'd rather get infected than endure another one of these.... (Uggghhh).
  21. Just need a couple of TD regulars to go negative on their favorite Twins whipping boys, that should do the trick...
  22. You and your AFFECTIVE/effective disorder, I thought I cured you of this months ago.
  23. Buxton batting leadoff in his debut, already 1-2.
  24. Strategic retreat is always the wisest course....
