  1. Defend the indefensible all you care to do so, but going into your next series with 13 pitchers and 2 position players was just plain foolish- and then to remedy the situation, they called up another SS.
  2. 2 CF down in CF in a week is unusual. But what's even more unusual is the fact that there is no CF in AAA at the ready on speed dial- apparently not an OF of any kind is available. The Twins had their CF depth lost on waivers, and have not made sufficient moves to restock that depth. No one has ever answered the question- what happened to Jermaine Mitchell?....and why was he let go in ST?
  3. I wasn't arguing that they should have DL'd Mauer immediately. The fact is, they did have only 2 bench players once he went down in the 2nd inning on Sunday, and the thought apparently never occurred to them that they were dangerously exposed to disaster....and then they decided to roll the dice and go day to day instead of immediately swapping out one of the excess relievers. No other word for that than "dumb".
  4. And by clicking on your link, I see he's still playing CF! How sad the franchise has fallen so low, that Sweet Lou is an obvious upgrade at this point.
  5. In all honesty Seth, that "moment" was last Sunday when Mauer went down. This is inexcusable.
  6. Only a "bit embarrassing"? Bewares for whom the bell tolls, Told you so's, Chickens coming home to roost......none of that makes me feel any better, it's all just plain pitiful at this particular moment. But think on this.....If Jim Pohlad was embarrassed by his club last September, how does he feel about it now? This non-stop comedy of errors is making Chris Colabello's CanAm team, the Worcester Tornadoes, look respectable by comparison
  7. Anyone want to find a positive out of this entirely forseeable (at least by some of us on TD, anyway) fiasco? There is now no freaking possible way that Rob Antony can ever be named permanent GM.
  8. To be fair, Gardy had never seen such a scenario play out like this before in his entire 34 year career in baseball....oh wait....
  9. I was impressed by Darnell's first appearance, as well. But it's been pretty well-established that the gun in Cleveland is running 2-3MPH hot this week, ie, the Twins broadcasters strongly challenged the notion that Salazar supposedly hit 100MPH on the gun last night.
  10. the Wings are playing in Columbus, Ohio, 2 hours away from Cleveland.
  11. Actually, they needed to send down 2 with Guerrier getting the call- but Gardy is holding sway with management for maintaining his 13 pitcher stance. The frustration I saw from Gardy leaves me guessing that Arcia was also going to be announced, but since he was scratched tonight, he may have had a setback. And the front office is apparently unwilling to expose another player to waivers to call up Parmelee, which tells you where he stands with both Gardy and management, as I'm pretty certain he'd be up if Gardy really wanted him.
  12. Trying to be polite here....but have you watched the last 3 games? The roster construction is directly forcing the team to play with one hand tied behind their back....they were lucky to win on Monday....there is absolutely no need for a 13 man pitching staff....the moves you recommend can be made, but they don't deal with the interim crisis-mode- from which the only Twins response thus far has been to add a "short-leashed" speculative reclamation reliever. It's nothing short of bizarre.
  13. Unless it's Hammer on the 60-day.
  14. Jeremy, there's been some pushback disputing an option remaining for Florimon. Have you double-checked your sources on his status in that regard? It seems like sending him down is the obvious move if that option is still an option.
  15. I'm with you, except Gardy and someone in the front office became mistakenly enamored with the presence of Bartlett, and hurt the team in a self-inflicted error by (apparently) keeping a promise to him that never should have been made in the first place.
  16. Santana has 2,340 minor league PAs, he's 23.5 years old, Escobar was called up for good by the White Sox at the same age, and no one's arguing that Eddie was rushed to the majors. You're absolutely right, he's much better than Florimon right now, even with the inevitable bonehead errors and mistakes in judgement he's bound to commit, and this isn't close- even though you're right, he does need to clean up a few areas.
  17. Absolutely, for sure Delmon makes it, maybe even Bartlett.
  18. Everyone but the guy that writes the rule book on scorekeeping guidelines knows that was an E-7.
  19. There was only room for one of his characters on the roster, not two: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dz_sqiJBDJs
  20. Why change up on what's worked so well.....
  21. 3 Catchers and 13 Pitchers, who a week ago all got a 3 day rest.....and are just coming off of 4 consecutive Quality Starts.....this is largely on Gardy.
  22. That's what I said. You only need to add Parmelee to the 40-man.
  23. And don't forget the 3 SS. The problem is literally systemic- no viable OF options (save Parmelee) until you reach down to A+ ball, and the injuries and the bonehead Bartlett move have exposed the Twins short-sighted thinking on the lack of depth options for all to see. How do you go into the season: with 3 guys who all struggled mightily in 2013 as your starters.....and then....... cut bait on Presley, not bolster the OF with a FA signing or 2, rely on a career SS, 2 years out of baseball as your 5th OF, rely on an Indy ball 1stB as your 6th OF, rely on Chris Hermann as your 7th OF. This is on the Twins.
  24. It has to happen by tomorrow's opt-out date, so this move is something that must have been anticipated since MG was signed. It only makes sense if they are planning on doing something with Burton. They really wouldn't swap him into a spot for either Darnell or Tonkin, would they.....?
  25. Well stated. It's maddening, to the point of infuriating, that there is no one in Twins management that can't calmly break this all down to the manager and then hit him upside the head with the cold, hard statistical facts.
