    Ortiz was 0-4 tonight and started in LF. Don't you think the Twins need to see if Ortiz has the chops to play a little CF? He would certainly have to be a better depth option for the Twins than pursuing the "Hermann in CF" experiment.

    For Francisco Liriano, the Twins received Escobar and Pedro Hernandez. By contrast, the Twins would be extremely fortunate to receive one C prospect for Correia- I will be shocked if the Twins get anything of value for KC. (And I promise, maybe in the Strib you'll get some avalanchers, but not one knowledgeable Twins fan will be involved in criticism should a musical chair approach fall short of expectations. This is something the Twins HAVE to do.)

    Mike Berardino is a first-rate, go-to Twins beat reporter. This is a win-win in putting his byline alongside the outstanding TD minor league reporters.

    Ignoring the fact that Fuld has a career WAR around 3.0 and the other 3 players, combined, are worth -0.2 WAR, this isn't really much at all about Fuld. He's a very credible 4th OF, and is easily discardable when the Twins are presented with a better opportunity to upgrade the position. This is about plugging up a gaping depth hole in CF and making every effort to salvage the career of Aaron Hicks by giving him the chance to get it together in AAA.

The Red Wings team ERA has gone from worst (4.21 in 2013) to first (3.16 in 2014) in the IL. Kudos to the organization and the players for an impressive turnaround. Rand gives the boilerplate defensible reasons why there have been no promotions yet. And yes, the Twins' May pitching numbers have turned around from April, to a level that, though slightly below league average, appears to be about what is reasonable to expect from this group as a body of work. Now, when is it time to improve upon this body of work with better options? Time will tell.

    Yup. I was being flippant due to the situation with Correia. The staff overall actually did a good job in turning the corner in May, and is now producing at a level just about what we can reasonably expect. It still is a head-scratcher though, for how long they hang on with clearly, screamingly obvious non-performers, especially in the rotation.....what other club would have "kept their powder" this dry, for this long?

    Meet your new Twins CF! (for now, anyway, Hicks is apparently in such low regard right now that a move to being in "the Twins dog house" would probably be considered a promotion).

    Conversion on the fly, and as a last resort isn't the best way to consider throwing a guy into a new, and demanding position. And the move raises more questions than it answers. 1) Has Santana now been scratched off of the potential future SS list? 2) Are the Twins sold on Escobar as a longer-term answer at SS? 3) If Esco is the answer, how come they couldn't figure that out until recently? 4) Will the Twins put a career 4th OF, Fuld, back into the starting spot? 5) If Fuld becomes the starter in CF, where/how much does Santana play?

    If it allows Hicks to get his act together in a lower-stress venue, I'm all in favor of it. Fuld is a perfectly competent 4th OFer.

    All fine and dandy. Except this wasn't a good start from Correia. And a series of the starts like yesterday's will be of interest to absolutely no one in negotiating a potential meaningful trade.

    Plus, following tmerrick's gameplan, moving MattyG out not only opens up a 25-man spot for May (who is already on the roster), he also opens up a 40-man spot for Meyer (or perhaps for another major league CFer, but that's for a different thread).

    Or instead of a "burn the witch!" approach to ensuring journalistic integrity (which I don't think anyone has advocated in this thread- thus another strawman hereby debunked), how about holding accountable, those who write for a living to basic standards of journalism? Done simply by those of us in the public, in noting when they make a mistake. Or some like the Pioneer Press scribe with an identical job, who seems perfectly capable of holding himself accountable (or perhaps he has an editor who gave him a gentle nudge). And then they can use jokes, satire, et al, to their heart's content and everyone will be better off for reading their otherwise entertaining chatter.
