  1. This. And the numbers achieved in May really aren't hope-based. The May numbers are reality-based, given the staff's overall pitching history. The only big outlier to the upside in quality outings was Hughes, but there is nothing to suggest that Phil will turn into a pumpkin overnight. Gibson and Deduno should continue to be inconsistent, but at times dominating, Nolasco's history is to improve as the season progresses, and now the Twins have guys knocking on the door, both in AAA and AA, who look to have potential instant positive impact, both as the eventual successor to Correia, and for whomever falters in the rotation or the pen.
  2. Chief and Christy, I don't know about the pregame quote, but I do know that the Strib turned the corner on over-the-top, critical coverage of Hicks and the CF situation- from first, Reusse, then LEN, and then Scoggins- in quick succession after the Giants series. But then, there's no mistaking what Gardy said on-camera in the post-game interview, and it doesn't portend well for Hicks' future with the Twins.
  3. No. Up until Hammer and Arcia came back, the club was rostering 2 OF on the entire 25-man. Fuld could fill that role, but every indication is that when he returns he will be taking Hicks' spot.
  4. Fine and dandy. But why rather pointedly beat the dead horse in the post-game presser?
  5. Yup. I placed Gardy's quote in the Hicks-related thread. It's pretty clear that not only are both camps not on the same page, at this point, both camps are barely on the same planet. Don't see this ending well. http://twinsdaily.com/showthread.php/11656-Scoggins-lowers-the-boom-on-Twins-Hicks-situation/page6
  6. If Carbonell would be the first option in CF, only until Buxton arrives some time in 2015, and then joins a corner OF core group with Arcia and Rosario, I could live with that. (3 guys who could legitimately play CF, all on the team at the same time, that might solve this problem once and for all, and then you have Hicks back in reserve doing more remedial work in Rochester, with an outside shot to revive his career). Whichever bat doesn't play in a corner spot, you consider the infield in Rosario's case, or a trade....as the Twins demonstrated with Span and Revere, you should always be able to get a decent return when trading a CFer.
  7. Just to be clear, I purposely separated out May from the rest of the guys- he definitely has a chance to be a good #3 level major league starter, but he's not a Meyer- and there's still a chance he ends up in the pen. Darnell to me is still a fringe prospect, until he proves differently. And the other two guys are at or above 30, I don't see how there's any other way to classify them than non-prospects- hopefully they both make a contribution to the Twins, but I'm not holding my breath on them having any meaningful impact- not the kind of guys a rebuilding team should be wasting a lot of time on.
  8. Dick doing his best cover-job...."Mauer pounds that ball down the first base line!"
  9. Dick made sure to get in the point that Rob Antony (master of gaining self-back-slapping publicity and credit through 20-20 hindsight) desperately tried to re-sign Solarte in the offseason but lost out to the Yankees....can't give away his money....
  10. Watched the replay, Parmelee was late to get in position for the cutoff, which probably prompted Solarte to try and take 2nd. The runner would have scored on the wide throw to home pretty easily. Houdini has nothing on Correia.
  11. I'm seeing what you're seeing, and am pleasantly surprised. I just figured with what he has had to go through with the media and the fans in NY and his own struggles that his attitude would have soured over time. Give this Eduardo full credit for perseverance.
  12. Careful what you wish for, Antony might offer him a raise.
  13. Hard to believe, but from what I've read, Nunez was similarly popular with his Yankee mates.
  14. Yep. But why not this guy, instead? Costs you only $$$ (and it might force them to bring Tony Oliva to the major league full-time): [video=youtube_share;F3OpgaDQpI0]http://youtu.be/F3OpgaDQpI0
  15. Yup, SOP for the Twins, go through the 2 fringe/non-prospects first, and find out what we already know about them and why they are fringe/non-prospects (and we got a preview of what Johnson is likely to do already). And then maybe throw in Pino for a meaningless cup of coffee. And then find out if May is a major league starter or reliever. At this rate, expect Meyer in June of 2015, at the earliest.
  16. I saw a bit of the video, it really seems like this was laughing and poking fun at the expense of a sick puppy.
  17. But has he turned a corner? Maybe to a new organization. Thanks to Gardy sharing and airing the dirty laundry, Hicks only wants to see fastballs in batting practice...it appears he's a Dead Man Walking in the eyes of Twins management.
  18. LEN3 desperately needs a copy editor, a job that apparently no longer exists at the Strib.
  19. Multiple stitches, eye swollen, day to day.
  20. Now that Hicks is starting again in CF today against the Yankees, by default, and with the Twins seemingly distancing themselves from him as quickly as a group of deer hunters from a skunk.... a new name is surfacing for the position, Jon Jay, and it's a good one. But he wouldn't come cheap, no matter the Cards motivation to deal: OF depth as a problem? Does anyone in Twinsland remember what that feels like? http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/05/cardinals-could-deal-from-outfield-surplus.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+MlbTradeRumors+%28MLB+Trade+Rumors%29
  21. Darren WolfsonVerified account ‏@DarrenWolfson Does Jon Jay have fans in the #MNTwins front office? Yes. Cardinals have surplus of OFs. Only logical teams would talk. Twins hush-hush. Multiple Twins officials decline comment on background. 6:31 AM - 31 May 2014 an Turnquist ‏@2__CANEZ 1h @DarrenWolfson what would it take to get him do you think? @DarrenWolfson Are they trying to work on a deal Darren? [*] @2__CANEZ A healthy amount. Probably Fien and a decent prospect. [*] “@DarrenWolfson: Does Jon Jay have fans in the #MNTwins front office? Yes. Cardinals have surplus of OFs." JUMP JUMP JUMP
  22. Overseen on Rob Antony's "To-Do List Before Terry Gets Back": More Center Fielders...Less Shortstops
  23. Ha! HIlarious. I withheld comment, figuring you'd come up with the appropriate 'toon chartacter- mission accomplished. In this instance, unseen in the picture, I think it was Gardy playing Yosemite Sam, who provided the last cliff-nudge to Wil E Hicks, with Danny Santana as The Roadrunner, who closes the scene with a fond farewell- "Meep-meep" http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51fn5x8IAPL.jpg
  24. LaVelle Neal is getting the full inside workings on the ongoing crisis management situation for the Twins in CF. http://www.startribune.com/sports/twins/261336091.html?page=2&c=y It appears he was given the information on Fuld in conjunction with Hicks's status on the team. Reading between the lines, it appears if all continues to improve for Fuld, he could be back in 7-10 days. Rochester, which presumably would be where he rehabbed, is on the road in Charlotte and Atlanta next week, beginning on Tuesday. Perhaps he might be ready by Monday, June 9, as the Twins begin a 9 game, 10-day road trip, in Toronto, which would be a pretty easy plane connection from Atlanta.
