  1. Darren Wolfson @DarrenWolfson · 6h Trevor May's last 4 starts for Rochester: 26 inn., 0 earned runs. #MNTwins official this a.m.: "Still not ready." Will be here eventually.
  2. Yes, spot on. It's been reported that Stewart's pure stuff is at a much higher level than the bats he's facing in the Midwest League. As far as I have read going back to before last year's draft, the slider is a real out pitch for Stewart, so it's probably safe to assume that it's a plus pitch. Perhaps the faithful in the community who are fully aware of his repertoire can confirm which of his pitches are plus or plus-plus?
  3. It's also important to add in Stewart's profile that baseball was only a little more than a hobby to him growing up. If there is still a noticeable K% discrepancy by the second half of next year, I think this type of concern will be more warranted.
  4. Except that joking about an injury that threatens a hitters' potential livelihood being ended is rarely funny.
  5. Danny Santana is back in the lineup tonight, playing CF, and batting 8th in the order.
  6. No one said send down at will, I said they could send down one of the relief guys with remaining options (and Gibson, should he implode, yes unlikely, but he still has options). And they can choose to bite the bullet, Jason Marquis is a recent example.
  7. Souhan sets up the "4 game series" (Home and Home....2 in Milwaukee followed by 2 at TF) that begins this evening. http://www.startribune.com/sports/twins/261464041.html http://stmedia.startribune.com/images/420*503/ows_140167590563656.jpg Strange picture in the lead, as the Twins are missing Kyle Lohse during this series, Lohse, yesterday, was brilliant in a complete-game, 3-hit shutout of the Cubs. (But the requisite Lohse quote puls it all together later on). There are a few nuggets in the body of the article, Souhan makes Brewers GM, Doug Melvin, sound strangely reminiscent of Terry Ryan: Despite talking about Carlos Gomez's non-stop chatter in the clubhouse, Souhan was only able to obtain quotes from the other 2 ex-Twins: This Brewers team is loaded, at the top of the NL Central, another MVP year from Gomez, they've gotten a huge lift from an unlikely FA signing of 3rd base defense and offense in the form of Mark Reynolds, and they will get even better when Aramis Ramirez comes off of the DL. Yet another big challenge for the Twins, with a little extra home town flavor starting tonight, as they go up against Garza.
  8. Please TR, don't let your minions draft for need with your first pick. BPA!
  9. Given the outbreak of arm injuries among young hot prospects around the league, this sounds like the proper course of action.
  10. Pelfrey was sent on a magical mystery DL tour, others could be relegated to the bullpen- Deduno is extremely effective against LHB and could go back into a relief role ( and there are multiple pitchers with remaining options)...there are ways to deal with this, while better preparing for the future. This is what a rebuilding team does, so that they can avoid building for a future that never gets here.
  11. Exactly right. The Twins thinking on holding back their best arms is so arcane- can we all get together and chip in and get them an ESPN insider subscription?- they can't even begin to grasp the depths of their "penny-wise, pound foolishness".
  12. Did anyone say that Stewart isn't allowed to ever throw a slider again while he's in the minors? Save this post to use again if he's still not throwing the slider in AA.
  13. \ What does this mean, exactly? Andrew Albers was a "total unknown". The two guys that were acquired- which effectively crippled the OF from the day they were acquired- are hopefully more highly regarded by the Twins braintrust than that, for once they finally earn their promotion. (The world won't end if either of the M & Ms falter out of the gate, you can always go back to the guy he replaced).
  14. Just looking at the pitching promotions around the league this season, there aren't many clubs who would have withheld promoting May and Meyer when your SP staff has been at or near the worst in baseball for SP ERA. And as others have noted, when some clubs are presented with just the situation the Twins are in, they automatically see the need to have the best pitchers in their organization pitching with the big club out of the bullpen- "one heart beat away", earning their spurs through a relief role apprenticeship. While I see the dollars and sense logic on putting things on hold right now....if the Twins are still reticent on promoting May and Meyer (in some capacity) after the Super 2 date has been established, it's pretty obvious what one would necessarily conclude about the Twins intentions- "'Wait 'til next year' and save on the service time this year."
  15. I'd be interested in hearing what you think is "on track." What JB_Iowa has posted got right to the heart of the matter to the entire thread- as "on track" as one could possibly be. The phrase- "To each his own" applies in the sense of "good joke/bad joke" and one's sense of humor in that regard. But in this case with respect to the original intent of the thread, "To each his own" doesn't apply, the point of the thread was in witnessing a journalist letting his zealous righteousness of what he feels is going wrong with the Twins, to convey "information" under the company banner impulsively and recklessly, thereby interfering with his journalistic obligations to convey the facts and/or editorialize with the proper context. Berardino got it right for when a journalist makes a mistake, LEN and Patrick, not so much.
  16. I'm all in favor of journalists poking fun at the organization, they deserve much of the criticism they have received, I've certainly participated in my share. I hope Reusse pokes fun at them every time they deserve it. But Patrick was rhetorically questioning why a guy was still sitting for a second day with a 7-stitch laceration on his swollen eyelid (and with that, it still was not made public if there was any potential underlying damage to the eye, the supporting muscles to the lid and eye itself and the tear ducts), the very body parts that make up a hitters' most important asset....the choice of words seems a little over the top, wouldn't you agree?
  17. For the record, I'm not outraged or trying to dictate what people post, and this isn't a moral issue to me., I'm totally in favor of free speech and opposed to PC oppression. It's just that when you are a professional journalist it seems you have a duty, like someone in any profession, to maintain a semblance of journalistic standards. I would have been fine if Patrick had posted something like: "Santana on the bench again today with eyelid injury? Given the Twins SOP, probably on his way to the 60-day DL." His message of criticism to the organization (or to Santana's lack of fortitude, it's still not precisely clear who he was criticizing here, although I tend to think it was directed at "The Twins Soft Culture") through the use of sarcasm would have been sent, only it would have been communicated far more effectively, which presumably is the intent of every journalist.
  18. This seems like a clear case of a player benefiting from a change in scenery. Hughes seemed to be a basket case last year in NY. It's hard to say if he could have duplicated what he's done so far this year with the Twins if he had stayed in the Big Apple- the media was relentless and merciless on him in New York. Perhaps this is a new marketing niche for the Twins to attract future FAs?: "You only have to put up with one part-time Strib blogger, Patrick Reusse's cheap shots, ignore him and his antiquated and ridiculous grading curve and his unfounded sarcastic rumors about your health should you happen to get injured, and you'll thrive with the MN Twins."
  19. Yeah, and clearly a distasteful and not funny joke. And the Dr Andrews part was the piling on part after Patrick's first post about a 60-day DL announcement.
  20. That sounds like the wisest course of action, for both players. Seth, I am wondering if Mitch Garver's status has changed among the Twins braintrust? Is he getting closer to having the chops behind home plate? He's 1.5 years above average for Low A, and it appears that he's too good for Midwest League pitchers. After a blazing start in April, he went on a 3-week slump to start May, but in his last 14 games, counting today, his slash indicates he is back on fire again, with a very improved K/BB ratio: .340/.450/.491/.941. For the year, he currently sits at .304/.388/.492/,880 Given his 4-year college player status and his success in Cedar Rapids, is he ready for promotion? And has he moved up the prospect ranks yet to be considered a possible future Twin? As has been reported, he caught or played every game his last 3 years at New Mexico, I would think that durability at the position goes a long way for the purposes of fast-tracking these days.
  21. I have noticed the same thing, Mauer has actually been tremendous in the field of late....even in the midst of what may be his worst hitting slump, ever. And speaking of that, Dozier has been slumping of late, the kind of batting slump that would have melted him into a wet tub of goo at SS back in 2012, tremendous day in the field for Dozier.
  22. ...but still pining for P-Flo...just a little bit?
  23. Perhaps he could consult on the matter of retirement with the former Team Chemist?
  24. Anyone want a little icing on their "Sunday"? Berrios goes into the 5th with a perfect game going....
