  1. Except the city's lifeblood depends on Target Field, which results in drawing mega-events like this- the city coffers make Million$. I'm sure a variance to the city ordinances was drawn up in the contract with MLB and the Twins. This was on the City of Minneapolis in not getting a heads-up out to all its citizens.
  2. I'm not seeing the excessive praise for Fuld, except for in the moment. I don't think anyone assumes better than a mean reversion for Fuld in BA. He is what he is, a 4th OF, only now forced into a starting role because an injured SS and Chris Freaking Parmelee are the alternatives in CF. It seems unlikely that the Twins would jettison him and replay the ridiculous nightmare of their own making that happened this season. Until they are certain that they have multiple CF options, and most importantly- with remaining options- I don't think Fuld is going anywhere for now.
  3. IIRC, the Red Wings ownership was in open revolt not so long ago, and ready to sever the relationship with the Twins altogether. You can't heap enough praise on Gene Glynn for completely turning around the losing culture that the AAA club was mired in for so long. The position player lineup the Wings sport this year reeks of AAAA-ness, as did the pitching corps in 2013, yet he continues to find ways to win, no matter the scenario. It's a difficult job balancing ofttimes two directly conflicting goals: prospect development vs. winning ballgames. Glynn's come through with flying colors, and he hasn't even had a chance to work with most of the very best up-and-coming prospects. Seems like this is a guy you want to make sure stays with the organization for a while longer- and if Rosario starts sparking at the plate again in New Britain, I gotta think the organization wouldn't hesitate to put him under Gene Glynn's capable tutelage for the stretch run.
  4. TK is not one to heap praise on prospects, but he apparently has become enamored with Vargas: And he is rather fond of his offense, as well: I think the Twins will send Vargas to the AFL in the fall (after a possible call-up for the IL playoffs or MN in September) and AAA to start out next season, with the hope of having him available for an ASG call-up in 2015 if all goes according to plan.
  5. Besides his BB% rising from 6.5% in 2013 to 9% in 2014, which augurs well for a continually improving OBP going forward... Added this to my previous post: We're pretty close to agreement on Plouffe over the next 3 years, if they can get something that projects to Plouffe's likely near-3.0 WAR in 2014 in trade, they should definitely pull the trigger, but it would be nice to have a relatively young and cheap veteran that could be plugged in in multiple spots during this transition period.
  6. The throw on Vargas was actually pretty good, it would have taken literally a perfect throw and tag to get him out, I liked Vargas' aggressiveness in going for it, and though he won't win any baserunning awards, I thought he looked pretty good going around 1st and sliding into 2nd. http://m.mlb.com/video/v34571457 I'd like to hear from more naysayers than Klaw- his seems to be the only blanket dissent on Berrios thus far, and at this point anyway in my mind, can comfortably be taken with a grain of salt.
  7. Comparing his most recent two years is extremely valuable in judging his potential career path, and, IMO, his year over year improvement could fairly be regarded as better than marginal- I've presented evidence, as such. And what's wrong with an OPS+ of 101? He's going to have career highs in BBs, XBHs and OBP in 2014. And you haven't responded to the evidence of the clear changes he's made in his approach, and results, at the plate, that suggest better things going forward. His oWAR for this season sits at 1.6, last year all season it was 1.7, and in 2012, 2.0, barring injury, it seems he will easily eclipse those previous totals, with a real chance at having close to a 3.0 oWAR season. And I haven't recommended that he be permanently ensconced in a corner OF spot. My suggestion for Plouffe is as a Super-Util corner IF-OF guy. And the (estimated) $4M cost would be extremely modest, he's under team control through 2017 and can be a cheap veteran presence as the prospects make their way to the league over the next 3 years.
  8. Keith Law has lost alot of respect in this regard with respect to how he rates Vargas, as he admits he'd never seen him until Sunday, and unless he discloses how he derived that alleged weight number, I will remain very skeptical as to its veracity.
  9. I look forward to seeing those, Kirby. Thanks in advance, for sharing. I too, was taken aback at how solid and athletic he looked, definitely not chubby, and not 300#s.
  10. Actually, year over year, from 2013 to 2014, Plouffe is better in every batting stat, save BA (.254 vs .245). He's definitely a streaky hitter, but his OPS+ is over 100 right now, and appears more sustainable than ever before. He is only 2 XBHs behind his entire total from last year, and he's currently just 9 XBHs behind his 2012 total. He's dramatically improved his pitch selectivity, lowering his O-swing rate from some of the league's worst to some of the league's best- Joe Mauer and Denard Span, two of the most selective hitters in Twins history, each have an O-swing rate of 23.9%, Plouffe's rate is 24%. Further, check how he has morphed into a spray-gap-doubles hitter: http://pitchfx.texasleaguers.com/charts/gen/4618582014033120140714AAAAAspray-chart.png Vs. his spray chart over a similar time frame in 2013: http://pitchfx.texasleaguers.com/charts/gen/4618582013033120130714AAAAAspray-chart.png
  11. Kansas City also projects out the starters over the first 9 games, and their first 6 games are on the road. So, how much is extrapolation, how much is based on what the ESPN writer knows for certain from a reliable Twins source? The Nolasco scheduled start is a head scratcher for sure, but Gardy quote from Sunday is for certain that Johnson "wasn't going anywhere", it was only a question of which day he would start. How much license does ESPN get when it publishes these probables?
  12. Do you have some facts to support that assumption about his weight?.... borders on libel after watching him in the flesh on Sunday. (But I agree with you that if the strategy is winning more games in 2015, then Morales is the obvious choice.)
  13. Isn't this more hope than assuredness? The TJ surgery only further muddles what was already an iffy assumption regarding Sano's ultimate major league position.
  14. IMO, with the maturity of Plouffe's bat this year, as well as in the field (he actually has a positive dWAR ranking, both this year and last), he's making a case for becoming the Super Util guy that some of us have envisioned- perhaps playing regularly at the IF and OF corners
  15. Tarheel was correct....Fuld is batting .285 while appearing as a MN Twin. I also like Fuld, but not as a starter, but a nice 4th OF. It would be helpful to see if Rosario might be ready next year with a August call-up if he resumes raking in AA this month. But I think they can get by with Santana and Fuld in CF until Buxton arrives, with Santana continuing to split duty at both SS and CF. In the meantime, the Twins should be taking advantage of their waiver wire position and make claims on DFAs who project as another Bonifcaio, to build up some OF depth.
  16. Interesting. There are no probables listed on ESPN for the Twins opponents past Sunday. Who made the decision to "extrapolate", but only for the Twins starters?
  17. Or Mauer at 3B, with Plouffe in LF? (It seems like Plouffe it's inevitable that he ends up in the OF sooner or later, anyway, why not start right away? It seems that the earliest the Twins would consider Sano being ready is September, 2015, and he may not be able to go back to 3B, anyway).
  18. Santana is scheduled to play at SS on Wednesday, with Buck back in CF. And then Santana is scheduled to play 9 innings in CF on Thursday, presumably after that, the Twins make a decision if he's ready to come back up.
  19. +1 (regarding the last sentence, the Twins brass has said as much on the record).
  20. Yep (with a little "guidance", of course ).
  21. Johnson is listed as the starter for next Monday's game, as well as the following Saturday against the White Sox. (Nolasco is listed for next Tuesday).
  22. Well, regarding Johnson, Gardy was quoted Sunday as saying that "Johnson isn't going anywhere", it was only a question of when he would throw.
  23. Ryan has to keep it for Meyer or become a better flipper.
  24. You're pretty optimistic on Hicks. Right now he's in AA and deferring in CF to Eddie Rosario at times. I gotta think the Twins will need to see quite a bit more from Hicks in 2014 before they hand him back the CF spot to start out the season for the 3rd year in a row.
  25. Boras, the walking conflict of interest, because of Pelfrey and Morales might give the Twins a break on extending Meyer down the road.
