  1. Thanks for the context Doc. I was aware of Ozzie and was going to bring him up earlier and continue the food fight. Strictly based on athleticism, Santana is right there with the best of them. He's still not a cinch to hold the spot long-term, but the Twins are correct to give him an extended tryout, especially after he practically took a year off at the position last season.
  2. One of these things is not like the other.... Hicks was batting .047/.174 OPS when he was demoted in the lineup... Santana was hitting .257/.564 OPS. It didn't take a bold, intrepid skipper to move Hicks from the leadoff spot. A bold, intrepid skipper would have insisted that his GM ship Hicks, not to the back of the order, but back to the minors, and after, less than, 11 games. What they ended up doing to Hicks in 2013, because they couldn't admit how wrong they were about his major league readiness, constituted cruel and unusual treatment.
  3. I would have voted Gonsalves, but like Gonsalves in the MWL, Hu is also two years young for the FSL, with numbers fairly close, but a slight shade lower, to Gonsalves' numbers. Baxendale is in his 3rd trip to AA, and as we have found out all too often over the recent years, with respect to Dean, those AAA numbers are often very misleading. Gonsalves is currently on pace to break into the Mid-Season Top 100 rankings, the other three, not so much.
  4. And the other single, and the double and the terrific, game-saving catch....
  5. The whole OF did the lion's share of the work in winning this game.
  6. Oh but he did help! As I posted in the Rosario thread, just bringing up the new guy oft-times "gets the attention" of the guys skating on thin ice.
  7. Think Salinger, Poe, Kerouac, Kesey and Thompson, especially Thompson.
  8. So that's what you would term "fail"? Got it. "Hair above average" The New Fail...
  9. They all had under 300 PAs, didn't include them in my screen. Of the 9 players with over 300 PAs, Rosario was by far the best (next closest was at league average)
  10. Heh.. Howie and Jokin on the same page? Someone check the the thermometer in Hell.
  11. Great post. Molitor is far from earning Manager of the Year kudos, but... the contrast in decisiveness about the roster and dyamism with both the lineup and the bullpen has been refreshing. Just one year ago at this time the braintrust was mired in the midst of unwinding from a series of horrible off-season veteran roster additions and "pronouncements"- like "Florimon is my Shortstop!" and "Bartlett is my Super-Utility guy!", "I need 13, no, 14 pitchers!", "Veteraniness over young talent!" and "We're keeping Meyer and May down because we have a Plan!" Now let's see how adroitly they handle Part Two--- cutting the veteran deadweight and readyying the top prospects to hit the ground running.
  12. Probably more like "out", either out to the pen or out of the organization.
  13. By far the best among the nine 21 year olds in the league, and as I pointed out previously, far better than 22-year old Joe Panik's .680 OPS.
  14. You're putting words in my mouth that I haven't stated. To the contrary, I'm far from predicting instant success for Rosario, I'm responding to the allegation that Rosario has "failed" @ AA-level pitching. The Twins were aggressive in promoting Rosario to AAA- and now to the Twins, isn't that what almost all of us want the Twins to do? (And haven't you yourself run a series on players the Twins should push?)
  15. Not sure what you're referring to, but overall league average OPS in the AFL was .718, vs. Rosario @ .755. Eastern League OPS was .717 vs. Rosario @ .742 (one of nine 21 year olds in the league that year, Rosario was the top performer by far, he also out-performed then-22-year old Joe Panik, who OPS'd @ .680). So you're arguing instead for a guy who has failed... spectacularly...twice.... after supposedly "succeeding" at AA? Getting a quick 15-day look-see, ala Polanco and Santana last year, isn't going to hurt the Twins much, if at all, and serves notice that the changing of the guard is at hand.
  16. 2014 in AFL? 2013 in AA?
  17. * Except for the success he had in the AFL? Clearly, the Twins saw something from Rosario both last fall and this spring- or they wouldn't have slotted him at AAA to start out the season, skipping AA before he'd mastered that level. Hicks is on double-secret probation, it has to be Rosario for now, no pressure if he falters, goes back down and regroups, but what if he pulls a Santana?.... next month, perhaps it's going to be Hicks' time to shine.
  18. Baffling? How? Hcks' physical and mental collapse over 2 seasons, especially last year, caused a radical re-thinking of expectations for Hicks in the TwinsFO. Hicks is on super-secret double probation until they're pretty confident he's well past his issues.
  19. Remember when HIcks was the #72 rated prospect.... good times....
  20. But seriously, Hicks seems to be accomplishing exactly what the Twins have been hoping to see. But I'm with you on Hicksie- he's demonstrated his mastery of the Twins FO assessment of him- fool em once... fool em twice... fool em thrice? With Molitor's love of exploiting L/R splits, I've gotta think he'll remain skeptical of Hicks for a while longer before he pulls the plug on Schafer.
