  1. For years a lot of Twins fans have wished for Koskie back. Trevor is on pace for 68 runs, 40 doubles, 14 homers and 74 RBI. Koskie scored more but some of that has to do with the rest of the lineup. Koskie never hit 40 doubles, only got 30+ in 3 seasons. Koskie hit over 14 homers 3 times but one of them was 15. Koskie only had 1 season of over 74 RBI. Koskie was smoother with the glove but Trevor is much improved this year. Trevor is hitting his stride at 3rd. He should stay there and with the Twins until Sano forces the issue. If Sano finds out he can't throw next year we might spend another 6-8 years looking for someone as good as Trevor to play 3rd.
  2. The best thing about a double is it eliminates the 6-4-3 coming next. I wish the baserunners were a little more aggressive. I think you would be ahead if with 1 out you tried it enough to get thrown out 20%
  3. That is exactly the point I was trying to make. If you are a contender your #5 is probally at worst a KC lookalike and more likely a whole lot better. THe only spot I can see a marginal pitcher going is the Yanks because of the whole Jeter's last year thing BUT I would bet a lot that they would do almost anything to get somebody better in there. The only way I see that happen is 5 minutes before the deadline and they have exhausted every other avenue.
  4. deadline deals are usually made to help a playoff team. If you think you have a 5% chance at the playoffs do you really think you are going to give anything up for KC? Everyone needs to remember this isn't the local poker game. There are only 30 GM's in the game and they are all paid very well for knowing baseball. We ain't trying to scam some Joe on the street with a used car we have to scam a guy making a couple-few million with his job on the line. I would love to see KC traded but I damn sure wouldn't want to be a fan of the team that pulled off the deal to get him, especially if there is any chance of being in the race.
  5. I agree with Brock about the offseason but here is the deal. No matter what a few guys on a blog think about who to trade the decisions are made with an eye on the guys who plunk down the $$$ to get into games. I am not going to cash out my 401k and haul it all to Vegas and bet it on the Twins having 5 straight winning seasons starting in 2017 and neither is ownership or TR. By the end of next year Dozier could be as popular as Mauer among the crowd. I am sure Perk has a no trade but if he doesn't and you trade him right after he signed with a hometown discount you would have just turned this team into the Expos of old who NEVER could get anyone to sign with them.
  6. No doubt that was the most dominant I have ever seen Perkins. By the 4th pitch everyone including the Rangers knew the only chance they had was a couple bleeders because nobody was going to square that stuff up. When I was a kid I saw on Saturday game of the week Nolan Ryan strike out the side in the 9th on 9 fastballs with a 1 run lead. That was awesome as was today.
  7. Really, that hasn't come out in this thread at all. Burton isn't a great arm but I would bet $$$$$ that if he was DFA'd and made it far enough the Tigers would have him in a heartbeat. Probally the same with Matty G.
  8. The catcher has to be in his box when the pitch is released. I saw a catchers balk called one time on a pitchout.
  9. Call me an optimist but I call 80 wins and 82 losses.
  10. Morris is pretty good on the radio, TK is OK but at limited doses. Kris Atteberry is who should be given the chance.
  11. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/johan-santanas-comeback-ends-with-achilles-tear-060614 Too bad because he was fun to watch.
  12. Jack and Kris Atteberry used to have a radio show after the Sunday game that I really enjoyed.
  13. If you die thinking that was the worst money you ever spent then yes, otherwise no.
  14. And one of only 10 to reach it while only managing one team.
  15. Morris made 14 opening day starts. 3 of those teams won the World Series. It isn't rocket science, it's baseball where you send your best pitcher out on opening day. The best pitcher 14 years for good teams was Jack.
  16. I will throw one more thing out. Terry Ryan isn't getting any younger. He rebuilt this team once and retired. I could be convinced he is thinking a little of his legacy. If he rebuilds this thing again and can retire in 5 years after 3 straight 90+ win seasons,,,,,,,, He would be regarded as one of the shrewdest GMs of his time if he can retire again after 5 straight +.500 seasons, but he needs this one so he spent what he saved last year.
  17. Because this got a little run I will explain. Maddux, Biggio and Piazza have to be on my ballot and Raines and Morris get my vote every time they are on the ballot regardless of what I think their chances are. No way Thomas or Glavine go off the ballot and I doubt that Walker ever gets in but I might vote for him just to keep him on and see where it leads. I won't ever vot for the PED crowd so that tarnishes a lot of players. Really IMHO there are only 7 that should go in.
  18. Biggio Maddux Morris Piazza Raines eventually I would vote for Glavine, Thomas and Walker but not yet.
  19. I heard that on Jack Michaels show today. Some here still care about a good story and small time athletics where kids play because they want to not because they are entitled and groomed for the bigs.
  20. I was hoping that Chris got the job a couple years ago. Cory is good but I still like Chris better. Dan is irritating at times and shouldn't do play by play.
  21. I am fairly sure that Mauer's increase in throwing runners out has to do with the health of his legs. Last year he just couldn't get up quick enough so he rushed a lot of throws, ie throwing before he had his base under him. As far as his hitting, the last time there was that good of a swing George Brett was still playing, say all you want about Tony Gwynn or anyone else since, George Brett and Joe Mauer have the 2 best swings I have ever seen.(not old enough for Ted Williams) I think Mauer at first base regular in Fenway would produce the next .400 hitter and I think he would do it more than once.
  22. One thing nobody has mentioned, at least Spielman is trying to put some high end talent on the roster before AP gets old. The reality is AP probally has only 2 more elite years and a couple of years that may be just above league average.
  23. You also have to take the pitcher into account. I could catch Greg Maddux and get a lot of borderline calls but Swarzak isn't going to get near the calls regardless of who is behind the plate.
  24. The interesting thing for those who look is that AP averages almost a yard a carry more when Percy is not on the field than when he is. Not sure if it is because Percy doesn't block as well or if the D doesn't fear the big play when they are both out there. This shouldn't suprise anyone. Percy was gone from the day he got hurt. I am just glad GM did a good job of bluffing at least one team into thinking they actually were going to plan on him and get such a haul of picks. I would have been disapointed but I really thought we would get a 3rd and a 4th next year or something like that. Draft picks are to be coveted and to get 3 for somebody who was done here is a good thing. Now let's hit on 2 of the 3 and we will be in business.
  25. I doubt anyone would be able to keep from laughing if you told them Percy for a first rounder straight up. He only has one cheap year left and that is the value of the first round. Get an impact player that keeps you under the cap. I do think you could gain a very valuable pick if you were willing to move back in the first round and add a second rounder. The other scenario is to use Percy to move up in the first round but I doubt you would be able to move up past slot 7-8 even with Percy and the Vikes first rounder.
