  1. It seems as though this was largely unnoticed and it happened last Wednesday. The former rule 5 pick was released despite having a 2.83 ERA, .199BAA, and a 6-3 record. Doyle also had 71 SOs in 76 Innings. He has a spectacular minor league track record, but the White Sox must not have any intentions of keeping him in their future plans. Should we sign him back?
  2. Short lived appearance for Oliveros. That's unfortunate as I think he could outperform a few people in the bullpen as of now. Oh well, he'll likely be back when the Twins trade Capps and possibly Burton. Or they could finally come to their sense with Jeff Gray too. There are certainly plenty of scenarios where he could return.
  3. Awful game for the Twins tonight. They out-hit, out-fielded, and out-pitched the Brewers, but didn't win. 2 big hits killed us. At least the Trevor Plouffe show was everything I expected. I mean he homers once every game, so it was predictable that he'd do it twice on his birthday.
  4. I think we need to face facts and realize the lineup needs to be mixed up more. For the 8 people not named Trevor Plouffe last night, just one run.
  5. Yeah last night's loss was tough for me to handle. Twice as many hits as the Brewers yet no cigar.
  6. Plouffe's surge and Dozier's downfall have me reconsidering what I would most like to see the Twins put out on a daily basis. Here it goes. 1 Revere CF 2 Span LF 3 Mauer C 4 Josh Willingham RF 5 Trevor Plouffe 3B 6 Justin Morneau 1B 7 Ryan Doumit/Chris Parmelee DH Platoon 8 Alexi Casilla 2B 9 Jamey Carroll SS (P Scott Diamond)
  7. I think it's worth noting that Plouffe is 2nd on the team in OPS behind Josh Willingham (5th in AL) on the Twins.
  8. I would go with Manship or French. Neither of those choices make me happy and I think they would both get rocked.
  9. It's about time Parmelee and Casilla got some at bats. Dozier has just been terrible, so it wouldn't hurt to give Casilla a few starts and have Carroll move to SS. I wish they'd DH Parmelee instead of Doumit in some games.
  10. Spandemonium is really catchy.
  11. Believe what you want, but fangraphs disagrees. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/whos-the-most-underrated-player-in-baseball/
  12. Great example actually. For me this is a pretty good article because it makes you think. He is very provocative as other posters have said. However, I hate nearly all of these suggestions except for the marriage cam, shaving cream pies, and head shots. Regardless, none of those are really big issues in the game. The thing is, he writes about petty, minuscule stuff like that which are really just unchangeable pet peeves. Maybe he'd like to bring up instant replay or some sort of realistic issue to make it relevant and worthwhile, but alas that's too big a topic to mention for the Great Souhanduski. To go into further detail in my disagreement, I'd flip out if they got rid of the hit-and-run. It's just plain awesome when it works to perfection and the thought of someone eliminating that just makes me shudder.
  13. I think the hatred people give him is somewhat comical. I don't like him, but I don't hate him. His judgement is just something I don't keep in mind because I disagree with his ideas. A lot of people here regularly don't agree with Souhan and belittle him because of it that's all.
  14. I have the same feelings, but as Nick says it's unlikely we'll keep him anyway. It would be foolish to sign him to a long term extension and he makes 5.5 million this year. Arbitration is an option, but after such a crappy season from him, it would be nuts to sign him for any more than 5 million a year through that process. So that's also not realistic. Although, there would be a chance to sign him in free agency, but that's probably a possibility even if they trade him. The odds don't look good then as it's the Twins vs. 29 teams. I strongly doubt the Twins would have any motivation regardless though. On a positive note, we could get something decent in return and get rid of the biggest headache of the past decade. If he does get traded and becomes an ace, there is absolutely no way that anyone can criticize the Twins for how they handled him. They have waited, and waited, and waited for this guy to produce and he just REFUSES to be consistent in any way.
  15. He's also the chosen one, looks like a future Hall of Famer, and hit a 450ft. HR yesterday. When it comes to Bryce Harper, every rule that goes along with prospect development gets thrown out the window (19, .943OPS in 150 ABs....*jaw drops*). Sad thing is, I guarantee that he would be in the minors for this year and the year following (at least) if he were a Twin.
  16. I was thinking Daniel Santana to AA, Mata to Beloit, Albers to AAA, and Romero to AAA. Albers and Romero don't have fantastic stats, but they have been at the same level for some time now and are both over 25. Albers could be the rotation replacement for Hendriks if he gets called up (instead of Hermsen who is advancing rapidly as you suggested). Romero is on a power surge as of late and he could fit in really well with Rochester's infield. Luis Perdomo should be in AAA, so if there is a spot in bullpen (Oliveros promo) it should be his.
  17. I was thinking the same thing. He doesn't strike out nearly as much as Reynolds, but doesn't get as many walks. Mark Reynolds is flat out terrible on defense and Plouffe isn't so bad.
  18. Make that 5th in OPS with .765 after today. He passed Denard Span and Ryan Doumit.
  19. Trevor Plouffe has been an offensive juggernaut for the Twins recently and has been an instrumental key to the Twins success. The 25 year old (turns 26 on the 15th) third baseman is hitting .348/.400/.760 and has clubbed 3HRs for the month of June. While it's inevitable that Plouffe will come down from that unsustainable line, it's calming to see him performing so well after a horrid start to the inaugural season. In effect, Plouffe has become a regular pencil-in on the Twins daily lineups. He may not be a long term solution, but getting production offensively from the hot corner has been somewhat of a rarity over the past few years. In order to look at Plouffe's efficiency, it's my belief that you have to look past his ugly .198BA and more so at his OPS. His excellent slugging percentage contributes the majority of a .725OPS. It may be below average among third basemen, but it is above replacement level. As proof, Trevor Plouffe's bat has given the Twins .5 WAR in 2012. Plouffe's OPS ranks 7th when compared with the rest of his teammates and has been rising quickly. Currently, he only trails the heavily praised Denard Span for 6th by .002 in OPS. The point being made is that Trevor Plouffe is not a huge worry for the Twins right now. There are others who are struggling with the bat, like Jamey Carroll and Brian Dozier, who should be on thinner ice. Defensively, the Twins haven't been able to get as good results from #24. He sits at a .927% Fielding, but it can be argued that Plouffe's versatility makes up for it. The added flexibility he adds cannot be taken for granted. Gardenhire hasn't had as much of struggle as he did last year in putting together an order and most lineups have been released ahead of schedule. Injuries were a large part of that, but it is these kinds of utility men that make it work. I also want to add that Plouffe's defensive WAR is slightly better than replacement level at .1. That is a little better than how Valencia was defensively this year. Trevor Plouffe's all-or-nothing approach at the plate reminds me greatly of the pre-2012 Mark Reynolds. Make no mistake, he definitely doesn't have the 30-40HR potential. Although, Plouffe may be able to hit for a better average, strikeout less, and provide a positive presence in the field. As long as he keeps producing, he'll keep playing. Trevor Plouffe has won me over and I really would like for him to continue improving so that he may win over the Twins management as well.

  21. For me he instantaneously become their best prospect when he was drafted.
  22. I've been thinking about a Rosario promotion for a while now as well. My only complaints are his baserunning and fielding this year. It would be pretty cool to have him play alongside Arcia.
  23. We got 1 really good pick in this draft. That's generally a great draft overall.
