  1. The problem is that all those guys you mentioned are just roster fillers. Fillers get waived or see playing time disappear when real talent is present at their position. Tosoni and Benson are both ready for AAA and they absolutely need those ABs in order to improve. They have both spent enough time at the lower levels to be given a chance to continue rising or to fall flat on their faces.
  2. There are really high expectations for outfielders offensively. The average OPS for a corner outfielder is .819 (http://scoresheetwiz.tripod.com/id136.html). This season and in 2011 Mauer has been below that point. Granted, these have both been below average seasons by his standards, but even if he were above that mark the value isn't much more than $10 million a year in my view. Keep in mind that good outfielders aren't tough to find and that there is plenty of depth within the organization. I wouldn't mind if Joe gets around 10 starts at RF a season or so, but any further commitment to that position just isn't very appealing.
  3. Hermsen has been a big surprise and I hope he can keep it going. I can't wait for Bromberg to work his way back into AAA!
  4. We have seen a lot of positives from Morneau this season and I'm glad he's starting to get things together. With his work ethic, I think he'll be able to adjust the same way pitchers are.
  5. I thought it was a very sweet and loving gesture. I can't complain. It does seem to help him and I fully agree with Clarence Swamptown's response.
  6. This is probably the only chance he'll ever get, so it would be a shame if he did screw up.
  7. Low scoring games all across the board, huh. That's not very satisfactory for the Twins position playing prospects, but it's nice that we grabbed 2 of 3.
  8. I don't think there's any reason to suggest Burton imploding. He has a .702 WHIP and is capable of striking out batters. His 4.60 ERA looks much worse than how he's performed. Burton has a pretty good track record of being reliable as well, so I'd be surprised if he didn't finish the year with the Twins.
  9. I doubt it, but I wonder if there's any way a Span trade with the Rangers could land us Jurickson Profar. They seem pretty intent on having a Kinsler/Andrus infield for the future.
  10. I'm a bit of a Tosoni fan, so this is disappointing. Clete Thomas needs to get the boot. He has no potential whatsoever in the major leagues.
  11. Well he's a hybrid Placido Polanco at 3B (less glove, more OBP) and a Doug Mientciewitz at 1B. Which has more value?
  12. I thought Butera was our catcher of the future and #5 hitter once Mauer moved to a different spot. Good thing I had you to told me otherwise!
  13. Atlanta wouldn't want a 1B. They seem to have a good future with Freeman.
  14. Wow, No HRs in 51 IP! His K rate isn't very good and I'd like to see him add some velocity because he certainly has the frame for it. A promotion could be good for him, but maybe they are holding back so he gains a few mph on his fastball.
  15. The Twins are going to have to eat some of his contract if they plan on getting a meritable return. I almost think it's better to keep Morneau because of what he's done in the past and the potential he still has.
  16. Teams really don't place much value on relief pitchers and getting an average position player for one is generally highway robbery. Two bullpen arms for Trumbo OR a AAA starter seems a lot more reasonable, but the Angels might be too hesitant to take it. You'd also have to bank on the Angels thinking that they have a chance for a wild card spot. I also wouldn't trade Benson because he isn't much of a bargaining chip since he's flat out sucked in the minors this season.
  17. Well, he sure isn't a 1B. The Twins don't get much value from him if he's scooping balls out of the dirt. He's much more of an asset if he can play 3B and that's the main reason it's worth a shot. There is no depth at the position and no long term solution for the mess that it is. Sano is struggling now and it will take him a while to make the majors. I am a firm believer that Miguel Sano is going to have to make a position change anyway, because his defense there is simply terrible and he doesn't seem to be a natural fit.
  18. I think they were stretching out Maloney to start a few days back when he pitched 3 innings. Should be: Hendricks, Manship, Maloney, French, and Thompson.
  19. I've always thought Paul Maholm would be a perfect fit for the Twins and I would be a little surprised if his option was picked up. His 5.5 K/9 and 1.416 career WHIP are really unattractive though.
  20. I'm a fan of both these players and it's great to see them having some success, even it's been brief. Despite his immaturity, I think Harper is a fairly likeable person. He abstains from the spotlight, although there is the hype, comparisons, legacy, etc. surrounding him.
  21. I think we minus well see what we have with Devries. Manship has only recently been starting, right? I say Cole should get 3 starts, and if he fails, Manship should have built up a little more stamina by then. And if Manship is still knocking on the door, then Devries should swap spots with him on the roster.
  22. I don't think Gaub is worth the time. His age and walk rate are pretty big factors. No reason to add another LHP to AAA either.
  23. Great news. Finally Pasta pulls through! He's one of my favorites just because of how goofy he is. I believe he has "I Love My Sex" by Benny Benassi as his walk-up song and dressed as a flasher for the Twins rookie hazing.
  24. I like all the positives about these players. They are very reasonably ranked as well. I only think that Beresford should be a little higher, but that's just mumbling and grumbling.
  25. I'm really saying that I'm satisfied outside of those two positions. SP is a hole, but it is a gaping one. The Twins are about 4 good SP and a decent 3B away from contention for the Central. They would need a lot more star power to reach a WS. It's not just a bat and an arm (like you said), it's several arms and a bat.
