  1. It just struck me, but Doumit looks a lot like Kubel.
  2. Long awaiting Buxton's first appearance as TD's hitter of the day. No Arcia news is bad news.
  3. I really don't think Parker is hinting at Blackburn being a good pitcher with this piece. The only underlying thought present is that Blackburn was more effective in 2009 and that's obvious. The changes show why he has regressed in that sense.
  4. Gentlemen, gentlemen. Why argue amongst one another on a recreation excessively barbaric as baseball? We truly are subjecting to complete baffoonery and I must inquire we move on to something classy like the fine young chaps we are. Now what say we gather ourselves and converse on the finer points of backgammon over kippers and crumpets instead?
  5. That certainly one-ups the news coming from the original post. Any ideas to what Pavano does without his partner in crime?
  6. Parmelee may have been a decent comparison because he too hasn't done anything at the AAA level. I say 'may' because the Twins don't play him and we don't have any clue how/if anything is different.
  7. No thank you. I have enjoyed your previous posts for the most part.
  8. Just because a player has hit .300 throughout his minors career, doesn't mean they will automatically hit .300 when they reach the majors. I agree Brunansky didn't do anything for Revere and he should have been on the opening day roster. Brunansky may not do anything for Dozier either, but at least give him some reasonable competition to fare against. Again, I don't like Revere and Dozier being compared because Revere is an athletic freak and a first round pick. I'll also never understand why many people love Dozier's defense so much. It's not acceptable to have a consistent E6 on the box.
  9. While I am enjoying this argument, I'd like to point out that the comparison between Dozier and Revere is completely bogus. Revere has been flip flopping between AAA and the MLB for some time now and it hasn't been ONE short stint that you can attribute to his changes as a player. Dozier hasn't had the AAA time Revere has had and it makes sense that he gets some before he's actually tested in the majors. You need to start playing "Mary Had a Little Lamb" before you move on to Bach or Beethoven. In a more extreme sense, why not bring Buxton up to the MLB because this season is lost? No, because he is not ready and hasn't ascended the steps a minor league system has in place properly. Dozier is not a top prospect and doesn't have the talent to handle a jump between AA and the MLB. I really don't like the age argument, because I think players move on their own timelines.
  10. Well with three catchers on the roster in 2013 or 2014, there has to be NO WAY Butera makes the roster...right?!
  11. Oh, and this Elizabethton team is spectacular.
  12. It's probably just me, but it appears like NBR has been winning more games since Arcia's promotion (fairly brief). Regardless, here at TD we love Ozzie Arcia.
  13. I try to locate the differences before reading on with these to see how smart I am. It's not a bad cognitive activity as usually they are fairly subtle (except in this case). The leg kick and stride length were all I could pick up from the delivery. It's amazing how much a small change can make on a player's effectiveness. I'd have to imagine that these changes work both ways though. There was a lot of late break on the 09 sinker and it completely fooled the batter in the gif. Now that sinker might as well be a hanging changeup that even the worst of ballplayers can crush.
  14. I just love how you generalize everyone with that statement. I've held strong to the belief that Dozier should be in AAA before the callup. It was an exciting move at the time to get the fans energized about a new SS, but Dozier has been a complete disappointment and this shouldn't come as a shocker. Currently, he is the worst regular shortstop in the MLB on both sides of the ball. He moved quickly through the minors and I feel like he has finally become overwhelmed on the big stage.
  15. Mauer will likely get voted in. For as much disapproval he has gotten from fans (including myself), he is actually having a fairly good season. I don't think Willingham will make it unless he puts in some good work in the next few weeks. He's borderline and I'm not sure that he is the best choice as of now. I did vote for him when he was 5th in AL OPS, but since then he sunk a little. Plouffe is very doubtful.
  16. "Hope" in that the Great Plouffe would mentor this young one in the ways of slugging (in the event he gets traded to us).
  17. The only reason Swarzak provides value to the team is because it seems absolutely no one else is capable of doing long relief on this roster. It's pretty frustrating to watch pitchers like Manship and Gray struggle because from a fan's perspective it shouldn't be difficult. It's not because he's a good pitcher and shanewahl has given plenty of explanations above. I really only scratch the surface analytically with Swarzak because his ERA has been consistently in the high fours for a few years and that is below average.
  18. Dozier has also accumulated -.8 WAR.
  19. He has a horrid .578 OPS and is leading the AL with 11 errors despite not even BEING with the team on opening day. Dozier hasn't spent an entire season at triple A and that's what he should be doing now. A retread like Casilla or someone with no potential like Ray Chang could play just as mediocre for the Twins in the meantime while Dozier develops.
  20. I like the suggestions merely because regular AAA ABs are better than spot starts in the MLB. It's better to give the important ABs to someone who may actually have a future in the organization (Parmelee) than someone who doesn't (Valencia). I also think Plouffe could use an occasional break at 3B and I don't think Carroll is really a good substitute at the corner. Don't get me wrong, a platoon at first is a good idea for Danny, but there are bigger reasons leading to exactly why he should be promoted.
  21. The Pittsburgh Pirates. I love the traditional yellow and black colors and the history behind that franchise. The Diamondbacks are okay too now that they have Jason Kubel. It was pretty awesome when they won the 2001 WS. I don't follow these teams or cheer for them much, but I'd like to see them both do well.
  22. That would be awesome if we signed him because of the good story and he loves the Twins! Of course that shouldn't be the main reason for signing him. I was also undrafted and the Twins are my favorite team.
  23. @USAFChief Illegal -as in- against the rules. Base runners are called out for running within the white line. Even if Mauer drops that ball, Weeks should be ruled out. Taking a four day break after this is another thing though.
  24. Mata's debut is something to look forward to. Don't think that's a snapback on Burris. As long as he pitches well, I guess I could care less if keeps with the trends.
  25. Of course he could do better than Maloney! The individual development of prospects for the MLB is far more important than minor league competitiveness though. It was foolish for the Twins to release Daryl Thompson. He wasn't good, but he was at least respectable as a back end rotation pitcher.
