    Borbon would be a short term player and we're not trying to win short term. No reason to sign him when he's pretty much the same thing as Mastroianni. It would also hurt Hicks' confidence. Too early to give up on Aaron Hicks after 8 games, but boy does he look lost. If Hicks doesn't improve, then the spot should be rewarded to Darin Mastrioianni. He's done more than enough to earn it with his stay here.

    Sounds fair, even if the declines are much smaller than you posted earlier. You really could have said the same thing about him last year though and he was great.

    I didn't realize baseball was such a physically demanding sport. I'd also like to see some examples of WAR drop that extreme "due to age" if you don't mind. Plus, I was really only playing devil's advocate with him anyway. If we were serious about winning this year, he should be starting. We're not, so no big deal.

    You're right. Beresford isn't really thought of as a prospect and there is almost no chance he will be given one. If the Twins, or any other team, thought he was anything more than a AA/AAA filler, he would have been selected in the Rule V. Although, Santana could see time depending on how he performs. He's still a ways away from being major league ready. Levi Michael could probably be thrown in the hunt too.

    Carroll had a 3.5 WAR last season. He doesn't deserve to be on the bench and is actually a pretty good infielder overall. He's not flashy, but can be an extremely reliable contributor. His defense is very good and he can usually muster a somewhat decent OPS.

    Dozier is the only middle infielder with any pop in his bat so we may as well have him keep playing. I think Escobar needs to be playing every day, however.

    I don't think there is any reason to draft another outfielder. I was all for Buxton last June, but this year BPA doesn't make sense unless they are SIGNIFICANTLY better than any pitcher on the board. There are 3 pitchers that make sense for us to draft, so it's extremely likely we get one: Manaea, Stanek, and Appel. Even if they were all gone, Chris Anderson doesn't appear like too much of a dropoff. Frazier and the other guy just don't seem the above and beyond best pick that Buxton was that high.

    Gardy blew this. There is no way you let Correia have a chance to be in line for a loss after pitching like that. He should have been pulled immediately after that double. We have a pretty good bullpen, so not using it was short-sighted too. Twins could have scored more runs of course, but certainly a huge mistake by our manager. Maybe it didn't matter with how Burton did, yet it was costly nonetheless.

    He's 23 years old now, definitely old enough. I was on the other side with Brian Dozier last year, but Hicks is actually talented. Let him play now.

    Baseball is the greatest game because it rewards practice over natural abilities. You don't have to be a perfect physical specimen to be a professional baseball player. It's the only sport I know of without a time limit (sure there are others and would appreciate not being corrected) and it appeals to fans in a way no other can. For example, look at memorabilia prices, the variety of statistics, and calming pace. Unlike the NBA and NFL where a great PG or QB can dramatically improve your team, one player can't make as much of a difference because it requires more out of your teammates. With 162 games, any player, no matter how good, has a bad day every once in a while too. I also have to say that the minor leagues for the MLB are unrivaled by all other professional sports. It's a lot of fun to know about the upcoming players in each of the five affiliates. The low success rate of those prospects also makes it much more interesting because prodigies are fairly rare (discrediting Bryce Harper aka the Chosen One). One last thing that I'll throw in, is that the trade deadline, busy offseason, plethora of transactions, and scouting is a blast for analytic people and armchair GMs alike. The MLB doesn't sleep.

    Kershaw basically did everything for the Dodgers. Pretty amazing to see a pitcher hit the game winning HR and shut out the opposition. Still, it's pretty disappointing that he didn't throw a perfect game with 27 Ks to eliminate the fielding needed from his teammates.

    I'm backing him 100% and I hope he does fantastic. Let's give him time and hope his stuff gives batters fits.

    If he wasn't a bad fielder, I'm sure teams would be interested. His career OPS at AAA is .776 which is pretty good for a 2B. He never got much of a chance in the majors. I wouldn't have been opposed to bringing him back on the cheap even though he's not much of a prospect at 28.

    I'm so happy. I can't believe some people are mad about this. He's an awful relief pitcher who can't get strikeouts and let's too many batters on.

    I thought TD would already be up in arms when I heard the news, but there isn't even a thread so here it is. Buster got signed for 9/167 which is 1 year more and 17 million less total. Posey also came off an MVP year like Mauer. Posey's MVP season wasn't as good as Mauer's, but I am not really sure who will be the better catcher over the next 8-9 years.

    Age 34 was his best year OPS wise. So he went from an extraordinary season to his career average in 2 years(.858). Terrifying indeed.

    I really, really hate the White Sox, but there is no way Swisher or Morneau should be above Paulie. 37? Konerko defies age. He's been consistently one of the best 1B in the league for most of his 30s. I'm a fan. Between Swisher and Morneau it's pretty close, but the safe choice there is Swisher. Plus, I think Stubbs is the worst batting RF out of that bunch. Parmelee really doesn't have to try too much to be better than Francoer either. The rest I say is pretty good except for a few minor gripes that could certainly go either way. I'd prefer Perez to Santana and Peralta to A. Ramirez.

    I like two columns a lot more than the old design. It looks more appealing and it's a little easier to use. Still, it was very tempting to vote rally monkey.
