  1. I would say Flip or Howland. I think Howland would be my preference.
  2. I don't think the younger players quit playing for him. They just were bad at baseball. There weren't really any good young prospects playing last year.
  3. To be clear, he's getting old and the odds don't look very good for him. It's going to be tough for him to make the Twins outfield with Arcia and Hicks coming in at full force. Mastroianni also seems to be making himself important if you overlook potential. Willingham's contract will be up though and it'll be interesting to see how they handle it if he isn't traded.
  4. Playing devil's advocate, but when has he had a chance to start everyday in the MLB? He's probably not good as a starter, but he won't be bad either as long as he's consistently around what he did last year. Perhaps, he's even improved slightly too. I'm not sure. Players like Darin always have a chip on their shoulder and I really liked when he brought up the comments he was told saying he would never get to this point. I mean the Blue Jays sort of gave up on him. So I'm a fan, but I think he'll be reliable at least unlike Punto.
  5. I don't see any real chance of Parmelee being an above average outfielder. He's not mobile enough and even though it's right field, defense is still required. Willingham is a bad defender and Parmelee doesn't look much better shape wise. Doumit was also really killing us in the outfield value wise. His build just isn't suitable for the outfield. Mastroianni is slightly below average overall with the bat, but you're disregarding the huge speed gap and difference in fielding which very likely eliminates Parmelee's advantage with a potentially higher OPS. Parmelee has potential as a 1B and a DH. The Twins are giving him the spot in RF, so they can see how he bats. And I agree that we have to find out if he can hit here. Mastroianni in right would make the Twins better in the short term, and if the Twins can fit Parmelee into the lineup via 1B/DH more often than right, it won't hurt them in the long term either.
  6. Benson had a huge opportunity in Spring Training and he completely blew it. Doesn't help that both of his competitors had incredible Marchs, but he could have at least made it close. This may have been his last chance, but like you say, he'll probably get another one next Spring. Unless the Twins let him leave via Rule 5. Although, that would likely require Benson turns in duplicate of last season (minus injury).
  7. Mastroianni deserves a lot of playing time too. He actually had a better spring than Hicks and a good season in 2012. An outfield of Willingham-Hicks-Mastroianni probably gives the Twins the best chance to win, but it seems like everyone is assuming Parmelee is the starting RF.
  8. Eduardo Escobar has a little more potential than Florimon does, so I really hope Esky performs well enough to earn the starting spot by mid-season. They're pretty similar players as you mention Nick, yet Escobar is Pedro 2.0. There is a small hope that Escobar will be able hit the ball not terribly (.600+OPS?), but really none for Florimon.
  9. Even though Deduno is 29, there is still some hope he can become a good, reliable pitcher. He's certainly improved with the Twins. Late turnarounds are rare, but not unheard of. Chris Carpenter and more recently R.A. Dickey both significantly improved at age 29 and age 35 respectively.
  10. The last three years it is .670 which is an OPS+ of 85 for a SS. It's not fantastic, but it's a big difference from the .647 you're trying to use. Florimon will be lucky to get above .600 by the look of things. Cedeno is not a great defender, but he's about replacement level in the field and has been better at second base obviously (where we have another ?). Your 3rd dash is also completely moot because Florimon and Dozier don't have any real upside either.
  11. Cedeno was released by the Cardinals today, but had a pretty good ST overall with St. Louis hitting for a .790 OPS in 16 games. He would be likely be available for 1 million for 1 year. Cardinals release Ronny Cedeno | HardballTalk Cedeno could work as our starting shortstop because he's an upgrade over Florimon and he's still 30 years old. He's basically a cheap, replacement level player. Maybe it is a step sideways because he's probably not better than Carroll as an infield bench player and is not significantly better than Florimon, but personally I'd feel much more comfortable giving him at bats than Pedro. Plus, they could release him at any time just like St. Louis did.
  12. Scott Baker has been shut down indefinitely with elbow inflammation. Scott Baker shut down with elbow inflammation | HardballTalk
  13. All expected cuts, but nice to see progress being made nonetheless. Are the Twins going to cut 2 pitchers now? Plus, what are the chances they keep Wilkin Ramirez on as depth?
  14. This is a terrible idea and I really don't like it. There's no way Escobar would ever get the practice needed to play there and I don't really want him to anyway. Catching is not as simple as throwing on a bunch of pads and sitting behind home plate. It's the most difficult fielding position for a variety of reasons. Just roll with Mauer and Doumit with Butera/Herrmann on speed dial in Rochester, please. When Gardy opens his mouth, I'd prefer not to listen.
  15. I really think we have no chance at getting Manaea with #4. I would say there are only 3 viable options for the Twins. That would be Appel, Stanek, and Gray. It should get easier from there if any of those guys are drafted in the top 3 along with Manaea as well. I liked the Buxton pick at the time last year, but there is absolutely no reason not to grab a pitcher this year with the first pick. Appel is definitely the first choice and the Twins would be nuts to pass on him. I still favor Stanek over Gray, but if those are the only 2 left (of the three I mentioned) it becomes a very interesting situation.
  16. That was my first thought that came to mind. Hmmm J. Gray..... Where have I seen that before?
  17. I really like the gifs in this. The movement on the pitch (despite the uglier leg kick) was really awesome. Also, that was an amazing squeeze in the 2nd.
  18. I hope Pedro Hernandez can somehow get a spot in the rotation. Provided it's not by other players failing miserably and getting hurt obviously. He could probably use a few months in AAA again though since he didn't finish strong.
  19. I can't believe Diamond is only 1 overall higher than Devries though.
  20. Thank you for reminding me to buy this!! Still have my copy of MLB 10 The Show. I played that for over two years. I was tempted to get 2012 when I got bored of 10 finally last fall, but I figured waiting for the new one was a better idea.
  21. Not every team. You have heard of Ned Colleti's Dodgers, correct?
  22. You have no idea if we'll get what we want for them. We got what we wanted out of Ben Revere and more. Don't underestimate TR or the desperation of 29 other GMs.
  23. I will take the Twins bullpen seriously as soon as they get rid of Burnett. Blind luck last season.
  24. Denard Span's take on who should start for the Twins. Denard Span ‏@thisisdspan Unreal game by @AaronHicks31 today! Do the right thing @twins.#lethimplay
  25. Will he repeat AA at New Britain or move on to AAA with Rochester?
