  1. Came in here to hide out. The forum threads are getting a little nasty. Can't wait for the season to start so we can argue about facts instead of projections.
  2. LaVelle E. Neal III ‏@LaVelleNeal 36m Also, Twins have officially added Jason Kubel to the 25-man roster. Twins had one spot open on 40-man roster, so he gets it.
  3. He had a contractual date of tomorrow, though and he and the Twins mutually agreed to push it back to Sunday: http://www.twincities.com/twins/ci_25409445/twins-jason-bartlett-push-back-veterans-opt-out
  4. To follow-up: Mike Berardino ‏@MikeBerardino 40m AGM Rob Antony on Duensing: "We're not looking to save a buck here or there. Don't know Duensing has done anything to not make the team."
  5. Does it seem like this ST has been rainier than usual?
  6. dakotanative, yours is a good post. And I think that if many of the changes you believe will happen take place, a lot of the people who are viewing this thread as something other than the W-L record will be pretty happy because some of them see this season as being about development. The problem is that a lot of people don't have a lot of faith that those changes will take place and that makes people a bit snarky. As for me, its spring, so generally I prefer to be optimistic but as I said in my first post on this thread, very few people who post here will have any influence on what happens during the season. We all just have to see how it plays out.
  7. I believe that it has to do with trying to keep this team interesting enough to keep b*tts in the season longer and stop the "ticket sale bleed" (season tickets and individual tickets). I also think that some of the brass may believe that a familiar name like Kubel could contribute to stopping that bleed. I think they believe that ticket sales are more tied to how palatable the product is now rather than on hopes for what it could be in a year or two. I'm not saying that is right (and it certainly isn't what I would prefer) but I think that is what is happening.
  8. And looking at the original post, notoriousgod wasn't necessarily defining it in terms of W-L either when he/she starts looking at how many plate appearances younger players get, etc. This is one of those seasons where a team has to decide what is more important: trying to get enough wins to (hopefully) stop the bleeding in terms of season ticket sales and make watching this season's games more palatable or trying to get younger players experience at the ML level to try to hasten better days in the future. Each poster gets to decide what his/her priority would be and to decide whether this season will be better/worse in meeting that goal.
  9. Because LaBombo and others aren't looking SOLELY at won-loss record to determine worse. LaBombo is looking at what the team may/may not accomplish and whether the team shows growth toward a sustainable better. It all depends on how you look at it.
  10. Mike Berardino ‏@MikeBerardino 2m Keep in mind: #mntwins could save $1.5 million by releasing Brian Duensing by Wed. Would owe him just $494,505 of $2M arb-avoiding figure
  11. For reasons I can't explain, i wouldn't have had a problem with the Twins giving Kubel a 2-year contract when he signed with Arizona. And now, i can't hardly stomach the idea of him being back on the Twins. Hope I get over that aversion.
  12. Rhett Bollinger ‏@RhettBollinger 13m Based on today's roster cuts, Josmil Pinto, Jason Kubel, Alex Presley and Aaron Hicks made the team. Escobar seems very likely. Mike Berardino ‏@MikeBerardino 26s Jason Kubel: "I think I’ll be playing quite a bit in the field during the season, so I would imagine I’ll play more (OF) towards the end."
  13. It's unpredictable ... offense could be disastrous or could be decent if some guys come through. The one thing I'm pretty sure of? None of us (with perhaps an exception or two for someone I don't know about) has any influence on what happens. We can sit here and debate it forever but in the long run, all we get to do is watch (or, if it gets too bad, NOT watch).
  14. Thanks Willi. It is hard to tell from tweets what is going on but would rather see a bad throw than a bad decision. It happens. And nice that he nailed that 3rd one.
  15. Were those 2 throws by Hicks really bad? Could you tell what he was trying to do? Bad throws or bad decisions?
  16. I did kind of laugh at this part: (One former writer for a league website [not MLB's] recalls the weeks leading up to the trade deadline, when one of his team's most popular players, who was on fire at the time, was on the block. He says he was told by his editor, "I can't tell you what to do, but both our lives will be a lot easier if you downplay his scoring.") Seems a little strange given that virtually anyone can watch everything -- it's not like they could really keep someone's good (or bad) play a big secret.
  17. I think they all do make the team. Most shaky would be Gibson. Interestingly, Gardy seemed to talk up Herrmann as one of his bench players today. Rhett Bollinger ‏@RhettBollinger Gardenhire hinted that Chris Herrmann could make the club based on his versatility. Would also allow Pinto serve as DH on occasion. Mike Berardino ‏@MikeBerardino Gardy on Herrmann: "Everybody forgets about his name. I see all you guys writing stuff. You forget about that guy. He’s pretty darn good."
  18. Mike Berardino ‏@MikeBerardino 1h Even with 3 off days in first 2 weeks, #mntwins will not even consider going w/4 starters early. Front four all prefer that extra day.
  19. Thanks, Nick. Well, batting second was tied for second on his career positional OBP so at least I'm not hallucinating about the tweet I saw. I'm not saying he should bat 2nd. But it doesn't surprise me that Gardenhire would bat him there to start the season given the rest of the likely regulars. I think he'd probably rather have Dozier in the 2 spot but there just don't seem to be any good candidates for leadoff. For now, I would guess they want to keep a little of the pressure off Hicks to try to give him a better chance to settle in. And given what happened last spring, its hard to argue with that.
  20. I think Nick is probably right about Suzuki ... at least to start the season. And somewhere the other day I thought I saw a stat that batting 2nd was Suzuki's 2nd highest OBP of anyplace he has batted in the line-up (for his career).
  21. Re: Correia He was very efficient the first 3 innings. Then we hit the 4th and I felt like it was Deja Vu -- second time through the order and all h*ll breaks out. But I was pleasantly surprised to see him settle back in for the 5th and 6th. It'll be interesting to see if he can get through the line-up 2 1/2 to 3 times without a meltdown. Also, saw this tweet: Mike Berardino ‏@MikeBerardino 32m Gardy said #mntwins missed 3 signs today. Aaron Hicks "was part of the we" in "we missed three signs." Do you know what the missed signs were? Have a safe flight home. Thanks for your updates.
  22. Twins Daily ‏@TwinsDaily 1m Nolasco: "First inning was pretty terrible. I think I could've done better if I told them what was coming." Gotta laugh.
  23. Despite what is posted here, I doubt that is going to happen. It will depend on who is hot (like always) and who has played recently and whether someone is hurting and whether they are trying to build someone's trade value, etc.
  24. Never let Dick & Bert brag you up ... it's the sure kiss of death for a pitcher.
