  1. I love these little speculative things (gotta have something to entertain when there isn't a game): Mike Berardino ‏@MikeBerardino 5m You don't suppose Gardy was talking up Deduno on Sunday as a way to lure his countryman Ervin, do you? Comfort said to be a key factor.
  2. This is the first time I've seen a number. According to this report, the Twins' offer was about 3 years/$30 million to $33 million. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/santana-has-connection-to-blue-jays-but-they-re-no-lock-030914 That seems conservative to me. Assuming Santana believes he will be healthy, I don't know why he wouldn't go with one of the 1-year offers.
  3. I'm infatuated, too ... plus he is still young. Seems like AFL was really meaningful for him.
  4. Sounds like Gardenhire wants Deduno (starter or bullpen): http://blogs.twincities.com/twins/2014/03/09/twinsights-sam-deduno-should-have-a-spot-somewhere/
  5. This makes me think that there may be more pressure on the Twins organization to win this year (improve significantly) than I may have thought originally. But since the details of the Twins' offer don't appear to be available, it's kind of hard to judge. Given the mess the Santana team made of this off-season, I see him trying to salvage with a one-year deal -- taking a chance on himself.
  6. Thanks for the great update. As I read the posts this spring about various Twins players and saw a few of the games on TV, Kepler was one who jumped out. I was surprised at how well he did at the plate and with his maturity overall. Berardino did a nice piece about Kepler's rehab last year: http://www.twincities.com/sports/ci_25290947/twins-rehab-worked-slugging-prospect-max-kepler Something to keep in mind for the Sano rehab.
  7. Have a good Sunday, JC & RB. I'm going to see how ugly it gets!
  8. This game has a bit of everything. Slides UNDER the tag and then is tagged out on the leg. Aargh.
  9. Always nice to start the inning with a hit.
  10. I just ran it back. It was close. From the umpire's view (behind the catcher), it probably looked like he got him. From the front side, there's more question. Definitely worth a replay.
  11. Well, that substitution didn't work. No outs and he goes on that???
  12. Mike Berardino ‏@MikeBerardino 3m Keystone combo of Santana/Bartlett has turned DPs in 3 of past 4 innings.
  13. Santana with a another hit? Somewhere Thrylos is cheering.
  14. Well, my 4-year-old neighbor has decided its warm enough for a convertible .... has his new bike out (with tiny little training wheels). He's a speedster, though.
  15. I thought the same about Meyer, RB but I think they may have just been clearing out some of the logjam. Somebody tweeted a few minutes ago that Perk and Burton are likely to get some work in minor league camp. Presumably because they still have so many pitchers who need to get work and Perk & Burton are locks. On the really plus side, hardly notice Pelfrey working this season -- what a nice change from the molasses last season.
  16. Pelfrey will be doing a little more PFP.
  17. From Bollinger: Buxton and Meyer, who are both not on the 40-man roster, were reassigned to Minor League camp along with right-handers Lester Oliveros and Yohan Pino; catchers Kyle Knudson, Matt Koch and Stuart Turner; outfielder Chris Rahl and infielder Miguel Sano, who is set to undergo Tommy John surgery on Wednesday in New York. Seven players on the 40-man roster were also optioned, including right-hander Trevor May and left-handers Logan Darnell, Edgar Ibarra and Brooks Raley to Triple-A Rochester. First baseman Kennys Vargas was optioned to Double-A New Britain, while infielder Jorge Polanco and outfielder Max Kepler were optioned to Class A Advanced Fort Myers.
  18. Great stuff, as always. But you know, if you're born on February 29, you only get 24 hours every 4 years -- just a shorter version of Brigadoon. And personally, I've always thought that December 26 was the suckiest day for a b-day. My alarm clock is also correct again. (Okay, I actually keep 2 -- one set to DST and one on regular time. That way I don't have to change the time, just the clock).
