  1. Yeah multiple (and some other stuff where basically if he gets the full $150 mil it becomes one of the best contracts of all time for a team)
  2. He has to win multiple Cy Youngs to hit the $150 mark, so sufficient to say if that happens he is easily easily worth it
  3. Yeah the Jack Morris and Chilli Davis ones sort of prove my point in both directions: One: they were both small deals but still at least a tiny bit aggressive. Two: it actually freaking paid off!!! The Santana signing has paid off as well! It’s almost like: hey, maybe spending REAL money on free agents from time to time isn’t the worst idea in the world, no?
  4. Should foreclose on a few more family farms.
  5. Where was I wrong? Have the Twins Won a playoff game in the last 10 years? Have they won more than one playoff series in 25? Have they signed any big named free agent for $70 mil+? A team that has this little success in this many years earns some fair criticism IMO
  6. He wasn’t a free agent. Also one big contract in 25 years, WOW! Pretty much Steinbrenner version 2.0 at that rate. Color me unimpressed.
  7. For the sake of this convo: let’s say 9 figures. Or hell even $80 mil+
  8. The Twins also have a ton of salary coming off the books in the next few years as well. Worrying so much about a bunch of hypotheticals 5 years down the road is a terrible way to run a franchise.
  9. Love how people give so much benefit of the doubt to a team who hasn’t won a playoff game in a decade+ and who has one playoff series win in 26 years and has never signed a top free agent during that span as well.
  10. I look forward to opening day when we raise our “3rd place in the Yu Darvish sweepstakes” banner along with our AL Wild Card one and done banner.
  11. I will still goto plenty of games, just will buy them at below market value or goto other cities. Shame on the Twins. We somehow are the only franchise in sports that has a young team, make the playoffs and then just sort of be satisfied with that and NOT improve our biggest weakness.
  12. Canceling my 20 game plan next year, hope more follow suit. 81-81 baby
  13. Glad the Twins could get the taxpayers to give them a new stadium! But fail to pull the very very very reasonable trigger on Darvish. So my question is: Will the Twins ever be serious about brining in a top FA? Or do we have to hope and pray we develop everything internally and hit lightning in a bottle?
  14. New York and Cali are much worse than even Minnesota
  15. Yeah they do that to prevent people from taking advantage of the system, we see it here in NYC, you can't get out of the city/state tax by just 'moving' to Jersey, as it all basically evens out more or less.
  16. That's correct (states were smart about that), playing in a home state (50% of games) where there is 0% income tax comes into play, mostly you see it in the NBA or other leagues though with salary caps. The Yankees+Dodgers will always overpay and help 'make up' for those high state taxes. Players often 'claim' residency in tax friendly states (smartly I might add!) so they don't get as destroyed on all of their other sources of income: commercial, endorsements, 1099, investments etc etc Also why they all retire to those states as well (pension baby!)
  17. Yeah, I'd do that as well. I know it's not 'my money' but I would rather overpay for Darvish and NOT lock in the next Blackburn, Hughes etc long term if that makes sense. I want to see this team go for it for once. The Wolves got aggressive finally and they are fun to watch. It looks like the Vikings are going to go aggressive and will continue to be fun to watch. The Wild have been super super super aggressive, unfortunately they blow it in the playoffs every year, but you know what? Hell, at least it keeps things fun throughout the season all year long. The Twins are the one team of all of those without a cap, go get Darvish and give us some REAL hope to win a title in the next couple years, if we don't win it all we can at least have some fun seasons. I still think Darvish prob ends back up in LA though, he LOVES the Dodgers and LOVES the LA community...people often forget that Darvish is not only 50% Japanese but 50% Persian as well, and LA is one of the few US cities with a large Persian population and Persian culture etc. So I get where he is coming from. Hopefully the Dodgers are still a bit soured by a couple bad games and more importantly can't get under any sort of threshold. Is Darvish perfect? No. But most teams don't let perfect pitchers go! (Unless you are the Twins and wanna give him up for Gomez, Humber and Mulvey jk) The beauty is none of 5/120 5/130 5/140 6/150 will really 'cripple' the franchise anyways!
  18. If you wait for the 'perfect time' to go all in, it likely will never come. At least go for it and give your fans some hope, because as the team is constructed today we have zero shot in the playoffs.
  19. Dude, didn't the Twins literally make this offer like 2-3 days ago? Or am I missing something? You act like they gave him an offer 2 months ago and haven't been able to pursue any other FA this whole time and is holding them hostage. Nothing prevents the Twins from signing or trading for another impact pitcher and then pulling the offer anyways...but I'm guessing they aren't really in the market for anybody else, nor have they been linked to any real game changer. Reed was a nice pick up no doubt, but if he and Rodney are the only 'real' moves this off-season? Color me unimpressed.
  20. I'd suggest not giving sports owners (who have proven time and time again to be some of the worst humans on earth) the benefit of the doubt. Yeah, salaries are rising, but owners are making more and more and more and more and more money then they ever have before.
  21. No kidding. The Twins hand out extra years to #4/#5 type pitchers like candy seemingly, yet when it comes to an ace they get stingy? Also with a 6th year you can pay him 'less' IMO those first 5 years as well. Let's say YU is looking for $25 mil a year for 5 years, but would settle for $22 mil a year for 6 years. 6/132 seems like a fair deal for all sides.
  22. Implicit without a doubt. Enjoy baseball while you can, there will be some nasty labor disputes in a couple years.
  23. What branch? By all accounts most teams didn't make him an offer until very recently, nothing prevented the Twins (OR NOBODY ELSE) from making him or any other top FA an offer until the last minute. IMO the Twins and the other teams have put themselves in this mess themselves with their (collusion?) with this FA class. Darvish doesn't owe the Twins or any other team anything, especially if they are all low balling him at the moment.
  24. Darvish is the top SP on the market, teams aren't going to just pull offers because it drags on another week.
