  1. I'd argure (and many prob would to) that in 2006 the Twins were one of the favorites to win the world series, even the other times they made the playoffs they looked like they had a chance to compete for the most part. The one exception being the year they beat Detroit in game 163, they were screwed having to play the Yankees 18 hours later. 6 division titles in 9 seasons (5 of which were 90+ wins, 3 of which were 94+ wins) is hardly "mediocre" in my book. Also one of those years they didn't make it in that span they were tied after 162 games and were a Jim Thome bomb away from making it 7 division wins in 9 years.
  2. If anything the Doumit signing could pay off well after his next contract is up, assuming it keeps Mauer at DH/1B an additional 40-50 times a year that could be huge for Joe years down the road. I'm with you 100% kab, you gotta take the high upside talent where you can, especially when it comes to pitching. Gibson/Diamond/Hendriks/Free Agent A/Free Agent B/Walters/Blackburn/Liriano? etc should be able to give you some hope to compete next season in the central.
  3. Roc: Hendriks with another nice game: 7 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 5 k's. Hopefully he can put it together in the bigs soon since he is dominating AAA. Burroughs bat is coming around a tiny bit. Didn't realize Parmelee was already sent back down to AAA..heh. Towles went 2 for 3 with a couple RBI, actually hitting above .220 now. NB: Hicks 1 for 3 with 2 BB. Arcia 3 for 5 all singles, couple RBIS. OPS up to .861 already. Bigley with his 12th HR, 25 y.o. in AA not much to see here. FTM: Benson 1 for 3 Morales got his first hit in like 3 months it seems like. Dean had a no hitter through 6.1 ended up 6.2 4 H 2 ER 4 k's. Bel: Sano 1 for 3, 2 BB, ZERO STRIKEOUTS!!1!!!one!! Koch and Roberts continue to put up decent numbers. Matt Summers got his 9th win. 6.2 4 R, 9 H, 4 K's. It's crazy how much his k/9 rate has fallen since moving up/getting converted to a starter. Wonder if he ends up back in the pen eventually. Man I wish we had some guys that could strike hitters out more often :/ Eliz: Pimmental 3 for 5. Swinging a hot bat. Goodrum and Kepler each with a hit. Harrison 0 for 4 2k's. GCL: Gibson 2/3rds inning 2 H 1 R (1 HR) 1 BB. Looks like this is one 1st round pick who isn't going to work out for the Minnesota Twins
  4. Is Trout even eligible? He had over 130 PA last season. Trumbo isn't even close to eligible.
  5. Wow hell of an effort by Revere. That might have been the play of the year if he catches it.
  6. Your right, we'd be much better off hanging onto Capps the rest of the year and then having to buy out his option next year. Ditto with Liriano (assuming the Twins aren't serious about extending him)
  7. All indications are that they will, IP is a weird thing to judge by, they should have a "pitch limit" if I were the Nationals I would find a reason to DL him for a couple weeks, then give him extra rest between starts(skip when they can). If I were them I would give him 11 more starts this season with capping the majority at 5 or 6 IP. Then you at least leave a few starts left for the playoffs if need be. Would be interesting if it came down to the playoffs if they would stick him in the pen (if he was right on that IP limit)
  8. I will never doubt the Latino Pitcher Whisperer again. We need to bring back Silva now.
  9. I agree, I wouldn't give up anyone of great value for Cecil, but I would give up Capps for him in a heartbeat. I actually think Cecil can end up being a decent #4 or a poor mans #3. Getting out of the AL East should help him quite a bit, I could see him as a 180 IP, 4.00 ERA guy for a few years.
  10. At this point we need to do everything possible to make Liriano look like a good trade candidate, so yes as crappy as it is to have Butera in the lineup it is a nesecary evil at this point. Right or wrong it seems to be working for Fragile Frankie. These next 3 starts will make or break what we can get back for Liriano.
  11. Yeah, the idea that we would get a major league ready arm for Liriano is a bit perplexing, if a team had a major league ready arm I imagine they would rather just roll with that instead of the enigmatic Liriano.
  12. From looking at the current Lansing Roster here are some guys that pop out at me: Justin Nicolino SP http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=nicoli001jus Noah Seth Syndergaard SP http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=synder001noa Andy Byrnes (SS/2B/3B) I'd take any of them straight up for Capps
  13. Nobody is saying that... people are saying Lombardozzi would be a nice 2nd or 3rd piece of a trade with the Twins. Sorta like when we traded Milton and got back Silva and Punto. Lombardozzi FWIW would have some value on this team, it would allow the Twins to trade away Caroll and DFA Casilla (saving a total of 3-4 mil or so between the two) and he would be an instant upgrade at 2B. Also I'm not sure why his ceiling is a utility player? He had a .780 OPS in the minors including an .842 OPS in AA. No reason why he couldn't easily post a .740-.760 OPS (if not higher down the road) at 2nd base, which would make him a pretty viable option for a few years.
  14. My biggest hope for Revere is he ends up being Juan Pierre with a few less stolen bases but a little better defensively. He can be the stop gap CF until Hicks is ready, at that point you either trade him or keep him around as a nice 4th OF.
  15. Yeah at some point, but when its a high upside guy like Matt Skole vs a non upside pitcher you go with Matt Skole 10 times out of 10. I'm really not interested in trading for any pitcher that doesn't have at least a #2 starter upside. We have plenty of guys who can man the #4/#5 and probably even the #3 spots moving forward in Gibson, Diamond and one of Hendriks/Walters/Blackburn/etc
  16. Much like the draft, in a trade you really should take the best prospect available. Give me a high upside bat over a #4/#5 potential starter any day.
  17. Casilla has been crappy the past 5 or so opps. Then again, I'm not sure why I am even responding to you re: this topic, we all know your rebuttal: "derp derp Capps sucks derp knowbody will take that ungodly 4.75 mil contract off our hand, Twins suck, Gardy Sucks, Cuddyer sucks, Plouffe sucks derp"
  18. Twins should be talking to the Giants about trading for Capps. Also people act like 4.75 million is an ungodly amount of money, there is no reason why a team won't/can't pick up that money the rest of the season and throw in a decent prospect. Other then K-Rod (who is very expensive) Capps is most likely the best closer/set up guy on the market this year, and teams for whatever reason have a history of over paying in both cash and prospect for proven closers.
  19. I would take Skole in a heart beat, the guy has some pretty awesome power and his bat could even potentially play at first base, and just because Plouffe has had a nice half at third base we shouldn't all of a sudden limit our options there. Besides, Skole is prob at least 1.5 years away at this point anyways.
  20. With the innings limit on Strasburg it is very possible they will need another starting pitcher, I wonder if they would be interested in Liriano. One player I wouldn't mind targeting would be Alex Meyer, maybe an outright swap of Liriano for Meyer would get it done? I also wouldn't mind them going after Lombardozzi eventually as well, once Rendon is ready he will be out of a position, and though I'm not sure he is a great starter, he would be a nice stop gap on the Twins at 2B (or SS if Dozier can't hack it)
  21. To bad the Orioles couldn't use a guy like Capps. A Capps for Tillman swap would only make to much sense in my opinion. Unfortunately, Tillman isn't enough if we were to give them Liriano or anyone else of value on this club.
