  1. Yeah, mlbtraderumors said the same. I imagine they might try to work out an extension with him (do they have the funds to do so?) and if that fails they will trade him prior to the season. Marlins are in complete rebuilding mode at this point.
  2. Zunio 8th and Buxton 20th? lol Hicks should definitely be above Rosario and possibly Arcia.
  3. I would give up two of our top 10 prospects for him. (No Hicks, Sano, Arcia, Buxton, Gibson) Rosario would be tough to part with, but would gladly give him up for a legitimate Ace.
  4. That's just it... He's not better than Baker. Look at their ERA+, WHIP, BB/9, K/9, etc. They're basically the same pitcher with a little variance here and there. Shields is healthier. That's the difference. It's a pretty big difference but that's why Baker is going to get ~$3m this season while Shields is going to get over $20m over the next two. Like I said, the Rays would get three years of Span for the same money as two years of Shields. both have an option for their last season. Is Shields so much more valuable than Span that he's worth significantly more than that three-for-two-years swap? I don't think so and the numbers agree with me. Shields also pitches against the AL East, Baker pitched against the AL Central. Huge difference.
  5. It's going to take more than Span to get Shields. It shouldn't take much more and if it does, pass. Tampa Bay would get three years of Span for approximately the same money that the Twins would get Shields for two years. Outside of a great 2011, Shields is not an "ace" by any stretch of the imagination. He's good but not great. I don't know why forum posters are so high on the guy... He's basically a healthy Scott Baker that strikes out half a guy more every nine innings. It would probably take Span, and maybe a couple throw-in pitchers that the Rays will somehow be able to make more productive (like Swarzak and Duensing?). If they ask for Span and a top prospect, then gods no. Yeah, a healthy Scott Baker who strikes out those half a batter more in "the toughest division in the AL." Swarzak and Duensing have zero trade value. It would take Span+ a top prospect at least. Top of rotation starters who have more than one year left cost an arm and a leg. (unless you are the Twins and give up Garza for Delmon)
  6. Well obviously I'd prefer Shields, but the asking price for Shields is going to be significantly higher then Johnson. The nice thing about Johnson is you could get him without having to give up two of your top prospects, and you also would have a whole year to work out an extension with him. Maybe he would be willing to do a tiny hometown discount? Trade for him and offer him a 4 year 70 million dollar extension? It would be a good time to "buy" on Johnson as his value isn't as high as it was pre injury, but the guy has legit ace stuff. I'd rather give up a couple prospects or players and give him 70 million rather then compete in free agency for an "ace" like Grienke or whatnot.
  7. Has been mentioned that the Marlins will most likely trade him this off-season and the Twins would be interested. He is owed 13.75 million this year and is a free agent after the season (would be a Type A most likely) I think he is worth trying to get assuming we don't have to give up one of Hicks, Sano, Arcia, Gibson or Rosario. Wonder if they would be interested in Ben Revere+prospects Johnson in the rotation instantly gives the team an ace, and if they could sign another decent FA or even Scott Baker you could be looking at a rotation of: Johnson, Baker, Diamond, Gibson, Hendriks. Not to shabby.
  8. Welcome to the internet pig.
  9. Selig is an idiot, also the WC game should be a 3 game playoff. I understand you don't want to go into November for the playoffs...easy solution: Knock the regular season down to a 158 games. Problem solved.
  10. Will there be a chapter dedicated to signing mark derosa? If so I will just pay full $9.99 cost, if not then I will just pre order. Thank you
  11. $7 of disposable income = born with the "golden" spoon in their mouth? Got it.
  12. I'd rather you guys just donate the proceeds from 1 of the 6 books that "anonymous" bought to a charity where people actually need it. I don't care what the economy is like, if one is to cheap to spend $7 for a book they want, then they are indeed cheap not "hard up". Just my two cents.
  13. The Titans aren't a good team by any means, but a 30-7 beat-down against anyone is a good sign, the defense looked incredible, Ponder made like 4 or 5 really awful throws in a row and got 2 INT's against him, perhaps it was a good learning experience as he came back and ended up having a nice game (25-35, 240 yards and 2 TDS) hopefully he learns not to force those balls in the future. That defense though, wow. I know Tenn was missing their "starting" QB, but Hasselbeck might be just as good as Locker at this point and the D played amazing all around. Heading to DC next weekend for the Skins/Vikings game. Should be a great test for this team, hopefully are 5-1 by this time next week.
  14. Also, I like Molitor, but why is he assumed to be the savior of this franchise? The dude had his shot to be the manager once but pulled out at the last minute because of the contraction talk/what not. If the managerial job is open, yeah interview him, but I understand them not wanting him as the bench coach (as people would instantly be calling for him to replace Gardy)
  15. How exactly is Anderson the problem? Also I think Bruno should be given some credit for Revere as well. Did anyone hear if Molitor is joining the staff? That would be awesome.
  16. I could see this being a "you guys have one more year or so to turn this around" and by turn it around, they don't nessicarly need to win 90 games, but they need to show a vast improvement over the last two years. They are viewing Anderson and Gardy's accomplishments as a whole, not just two seasons. Make no mistake about it, this wasn't on Gardy and Anderson this year anyways, that starting rotation was an embarrassment there isn't a coach alive that could take a bunch of AAA burnouts and turn them into a legit rotation. Most people said they needed some new blood in, well, they just brought in three new coaches to the staff who will be working with these players every day, that is quite a bit of new blood IMO. Also as mentioned above, they did fire the GM last year, I understand fans being frustrated, but if you just go and fire everyone every-time a bad season happens you end up in a mess.
  17. I like this line of thinking, having Cuellar helping out the pitchers as well should be awesome, ideally in 2013 he is able to work closely with Gibson, Hendriks and the other guys he has had in AAA recently. It wouldn't shock me if they are grooming him to take over for Anderson in a couple years. Brunansky as the hitting coach is a nice breath of fresh air as well, though I do hope they keep Vavra around in some capacity. As far as a bench coach goes, I almost wish they would wait a bit to see what managers get fired in the coming days, if someone like a Ron Washington gets canned I would love to bring him or Ozzie in.

    :-(

Not that this matters at all, but I hope the A's can make a long run in the playoffs and Neshek can be a part of it, again, not that it makes things better or whatnot but I hope he can at least see a little bit of joy/happiness in the near future. Jesus, I can't even imagine how brutal that would be. To go from the first 23 hours of your life to the worst days of your life. I wouldn't wish that upon anyone.
  19. Cabrera deserves the award, the last two months of the year Cabrera was on fire while Trout started to come down to earth a bit. The triple crown and taking his team to the playoffs is the icing on the cake. Note: I don't think taking your team to the playoffs is always necessary, but in a race this close it should put one candidate over the top.
  20. So basically he is getting paid just as much (actually more since its a longer contract), now can people stop saying how Nishioka is such a great guy for doing such a selfless and honorable thing? I'm so glad that worthless bum is gone.
  21. It will be to announce them excersizing the options on Baker and Capps.
  22. I doubt the Twins will go after Appel. I imagine every team soured on him a bit when he declined the Pirates' offer and returned to college ball. Couple that with the fact that he's almost certainly gone after six years makes me believe the Twins will probably look elsewhere for pitching talent in the draft (plus, it's absurdly early to predict these sorts of things). Crowe refused to sign and the Royals grabbed him the next year, I don't think its as big of a deal as you make it out to be. Yes, Boras is his agent but that is overblown as well, the trend now is for teams to lock up "studs" after one to two years in the league, no reason why Appel wouldn't be open to the same (if it ever came to that) though worrying about him sticking around for "only" 6 years shouldn't be a reason at all to shy away from drafting a guy, give me 6 years and a bolt to free agency over some of the guys (Whimmers) we have drafted in the first round the past few years. I also wouldn't mind going over slot, people act like it destroys your budget, but you can always just go under slot on guys later in the draft (which the Twins always do anyways) Appel at 4 would be a no brainer for me at this point.
  23. Appel would be a fantastic pickup, he doesn't have true "ace" potential, but he would be a safe bet to slot in as a solid #2 pretty quickly. A 2014 rotating featuring Gibson, Appel, Hendriks and Diamond could be a pretty decent start.
