    I don't see a whole lot of axe grinding going on personally, and don't see an issue with the thread, but to each his own I suppose.

    I keep hearing about "two pitch Duffey" yet I remember that same Duffey that almost single handedly (Santana helped as well) kept that rotation together and kept the Twins in the hunt. Duffey actually already has three pitches: 2 seamer, 4 seamer and a curve. Working on a change up will help no doubt, but it's really hard to argue with his results when it counted the most last year. Results that weren't luck based either as his era was right in line with his FIP and his k/9 was over 8.4 Also it never had to come down to Duffey vs Nolasco for the 5th spot. It could have come down to May v Duffey v Berrios v Nolasco if it were a true "open" competition. Berrios in the minors for a month to save money? It still comes down to three choices. Two of which are superior over Nolasco. Honestly the best case scenario for the twins is for Nolasco to have Nolasco like results as a twin, but they find a way to win his stars 8-7 or 10-8 etc hopefully after 5 eggs being laid they can be smart enough to bring up Duffey or Berrios and send Nolasco to the pen. If he sucks in the pen for a month or two, just cut him loose.

    Come on man, you can claim Perkins can be a "bust" or that he has struggled, but I believe there was another thread that proved that Perkins didn't "lose" anything close to 5-7 MPH As far as the home brewing bit, come on now. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that whatsoever. You might be shocked to learn that 80%+ of MLB players enjoy a beer now and then (or even more often!) Claiming that being a home brewer is a reason for him "busting" is just silly.

    Yeah but he wasn't born in the D.R., therefore he gets a pass by the local media on these things.

    I actually would prefer both Duffey AND May in the rotation.

    Fien and Tonkin likely would be cut if they are failing. Nolasco won't be cut, he will end up in the pen if he struggles.

    Interesting to note this is the second year in a row where a bad veteran starting pitcher told hte media they basically would refuse to goto the pen if the team asked them to, and the second year in a row we have given a rotation spot to these bad veteran starting pitchers (Pelfrey and now Nolasco)

    I can't believe they actually ended up giving Nolasco the last spot, I mean, good lord, if you needed any more proof that Terry Ryan is a poor choice to be GM of a team that wants to compete for championships this is more than enough. Shame on Terry.

    JR Murphy is my pick, his K rate is scary high for a non power hitter and his BABIP is completely unsustainable. I think even if he "busts" he is a decent backup catcher, but the Twins really need a starting catcher these days.

    Not to mention 1B/DH is completely clogged up as well. I think the Twins are hoping Arica+Rosario both do "well" in the majors the first few months of this season and Kepler rakes in AAA for the first few months, then the Twins suddenly are in the position to make a good "baseball" trade and trade one (or both?) of Arcia and/or Rosario to fill another hole (starting Catcher? Elite young bullpen arm? High upside SP prospect?) and then open up a corner OF spot for Kepler. I am a BIG Rosario fan, however the fact that he has the ability to be at least an above average defensive CF while being able to hit very well for a CF I think the Twins should be shopping him somewhat aggressively. Then again though, if the Twins eventually trade Plouffe and move Sano to 3rd, then suddenly Kepler's path to the majors becomes quite a bit easier. How is Kepler's D in RF? If Arica can get back to his 30 HR upside, would a OF of Arcia-Buxton-Kepler be a disaster? Or would it be "ok"

    I think starting Buxton in the majors could be a mistake, I think if they could have him start in AAA for a month or two and gain some confidence at the dish it would do a World of good for his game. Unfortunately, plan B is to have either Santana in the OF everyday, or Arcia and Sano in the OF every day, yikes. Tonkin needs to be cut. He just doesn't have the upside warranted to give him a major league roster spot and "wait" to see if he figures it out. Let him TruTV catch on somewhere else and maybe he ends up being an ok 6th inning type.

    I guess I don't understand why Suzuki is still even on the roster. Why not just give Murphy the starting job (4-5 games a week) and back him up with Hicks (who can't hit, but is solid defensively) I'm sure they could at least get a PTNBL back for Suzuki, no?

    I think most non Twins fans already view it as a steal. As of now they traded a back up catcher for a guy who has gold glove and 20/20 type potential at CF. If Hicks turns into what he potentially can, this trade ends up as a disaster.

    I guess I Agree, if they take him over Arcia, that is a massive and unforgivable mistake IMO. The fact is, the Twins already have enough 1B/DH types on the roster. Quentin basically becomes a bench bat and a bench bat only, no? I mean I guess he maybe gets one start a week when a guy like Mauer or Park needs a day off. Playing him in the OF, one that is featuring Sano to boot would be a huge disaster. If you really wanted to find him a spot on the roster/bench then IMO the spot you should be looking at him taking would be Nunez's. In that scenario Santana becomes your backup at 2B, SS and CF. Sano can take 3rd if Plouffe ever needs a day off and really Escobar and Dozier should be playing every day anyways, so there is no need for two MI backups on the bench in Santana and Nunez. If someone get's hurt, Polanco gets called up. Now with all that said, I don't think Quentin should be taking a roster spot from anyone at this stage, try to get him down to AAA for a month and wait for the inevitable injury/someone with options that struggles to call him him.

    Yeah, Sano should be hitting third until someone else is able to be a .900+ OPS guy. Sano should be getting the most at bats as possible this year and should be coming up to the plate in the first inning of every single game. As far as the rest of the lineup goes, in a perfect world I would roll with this: 1. Buxton (assuming he starts to hit) 2. Mauer (Assuming he bounces back) 3. Sano (best hitter, hits third) 4. Dozier 5. Park 6.Rosario 7. Plouffe 8. Escobar 9. JR Suzuki

    He did that while sporting a 25% k rate and a completely unsustainable .357 BABIP. The BABIP will certainly come down, the question is can he get his k rate down, as of now it's tough to say because of his big time struggles against the curve. If it doesn't you are looking at a guy who will struggle to hit .240 or so in the majors with not enough "pop/power" to make up for it. That doesn't mean he doesn't have a future, just he likely tops out as a backup moving forward. If he can get the k rate down, then he can become hopefully an average catcher. Color me skeptical for now though....he does have youth on his side though.

    And no, Sano-Rosario-Arcia would absolutely NOT work in the short term.

    Dude it's 29 at bats...you don't need to bring Quentin north at all. Suzuki also has a .971 OPS in ST this year....again SSS and spring training numbers are pointless overall, everyone is "mashing" because 50% of the at bats are against AAAA or worse type pitchers. Don't believe me? Mastrionni is above .820 OPS Sweeny is above .800

    It's apparent that Suzuki is still the starting catcher, you don't need to trade a young guy with upside to fill a "back up catcher" need. If Suzuki wasn't around, I understand it a bit more, but in this case, it just seemed like a trade to make a trade. An OF defense of Sano-Rosario-Arcia is a little less than "sub par" it would be an unmitigated disaster.

    JR Murphy had a .350 BABIP+ in his time in the majors and his numbers still weren't that good. One glance at that and his 25% k rate shows that it's going to take a significant improvement across the board to become anything more than a backup (his D needs work as well) More to the fact, by having JR Murphy on the roster, we are now forced to rush a guy in CF who clearly isn't ready at the plate and will struggle to hit .200 the first couple months more likely than not. Sort of reminds me on how the Twins rushed the guy who they traded for Murphy to begin with, it's sort of like deja vu all over again, no? (note: I think Buxton ends up being a stud, I just don't see how giving him the starting role out of ST where he will struggle more than likely is a good decision)

    fine. I will talk about this trade, you seemingly want to give the Twins the benefit of the doubt on it. While I give the GM who has beaten the Twins 9 straight playoff games (and has won World Series) the benefit of the doubt on it. Ntm most everyone around baseball said the Yankees won that trade. If the wild made a trade with the Blackhawks would everyone just give Fletcher the benefit of the doubt? Nope. Also, the Yankees seem to be pretty damn spot on when it comes to evaluating catchers.
