  1. Gonsalves >>> Meisner He has outperformed him in the basic stats (ERA) and the peripherals (9.9k/9) (0.2 HR/9) and is a LHP to boot which helps a lot when it comes to valuing a guy this low in the minors. I don't know who the equivalent would be, but it would be someone "lower" regarded then Gonsalves in this system, especially when adding in the million the A's tossed into the deal.
  2. That seems a little ridiculous when talking about a team currently 3 games up in the playoff race that will only get stronger next year.
  3. Posted in the Twins forum since he was one of our "Targets" Mets get: Clippard and 1 million dollars (wut?) A's get: Casey Meisner- Minor leaguer, 20 years old, RHP, just got promoted to A+ ball. 3rd round pick a couple years ago, not the worst prospect but nothing special either (7.2 k/9 this year) Twins could have easily gotten him without giving up anything that would be missed, hopefully they pull the trigger soon on some RP help.
  4. Who is saying that?
  5. Cut, trade, whatever. With Tulo on board there would be no room for Escobar. Bring up Polanco as the util guy or sign Punto. Send Satnana to AAA oand use the extra spot for either Arcia, Vargas or Buxton.
  6. 1. Trade Gibson+Kepler+Stewart+Polanco for Tulo. 2. Cut Nunez and Escobar 3. Trade a PTNBL type for AJ 4. Trade a PTNBL type for Beoit 5. Sign Punto to be the Util guy.
  7. No way Yanks would ever do that.
  8. 2009, WC round, game 1 at NYY 7. Brendan Harris DH 8. Matt Tolbert 3B 9. Nick Punto 2B SP Brian Duesning
  9. Last years world series featured two teams with less than 90 wins, 2012 featured one team, in 2006 the Cardinals made the world series by winning 83 regular season games. It can, and does happen.
  10. Why? Actually it provides an even better example since only 4 teams made the playoffs then. Two wild card teams made the world series last year, why can't a wild card team make it again? Also, remember when the Royals were down by like 4 runs in the wild card playoff game? Just more proof that "once you get a ticket" anything can happen in the playoffs. The only two teams in baseball I would give the Twins a less than a 40% chance of beating in a 5 or 7 game series would be the Cardinals and the Royals. They would still be an underdog against the Yanks, Angels, Pirates, Nats etc, but it wouldn't be some david v goliath thing. This isn't the NBA where upsets never happen, MLB playoffs are truly the most "crap shoot" of all sports.
  11. lucroy is having a pretty bad year, what makes you so confident he can just turn it around?
  12. The guy signed a very friendly team deal, you don't ship his ass out a year or so after that. The twins would be a disaster without Perkins right now. Also the twins can compete now, they are 3 games up in the playoff race and are on pace to win more games then they did in 1987.
  13. Brock: Who helps the Twins most in a one game wild card playoff game: Cole Hamels or Lucroy?
  14. I dunno, I thought he has been ok in the role, it's just weakly written. I know it's easy to hate Vaughn just for the hell of it, but his character has been getting better the last couple episodes.
  15. may isn't a bullpen guy for much longer methinks

  17. One could argue that the twins biggest weakness moving foward is the lack of a true ace. None currently on the roster and none currently in the minor leagues. I'm good with either Tulo or Hamels. I'm lukewarm on Lucroy due to his price to get him and his injury/concern for large regression since he plays catcher.
  18. Ryan said yesterday that they need a power arm, I am 90% sure they will acquire at least one bullpen arm this week
  19. Again, you can trade for hamels, and go get Benoit and AJ for next to nothing. Hell, make them toss in Papelbon with Hamels and you suddenly only have one hole (SS)
  20. You can easily fix the bullpen without giving up anyone of value, Benoit for basically a PTNbL, ditto with trading for AJ. There, two "holes" solved without blowing up the farm.
  21. because he is an ace and makes the team instantly better?
  22. Why are people so quick to want to get rid of Santana? He is our best pitcher currently and has looked great on the mound. For a team with a shaky bullpen it's nice to have a guy who can go 8 innings for you each time out,
  23. they are also two non blown Perkins saves this week away from being 5 up.I think the twins do look like a good team, especially with the emergence of Hicks and Sano over the past month.
  24. I think they only need to "fix" one of the positions, one black hole in the lineup is fine, two is where things start getting ugly.
