  1. Yeah, that play is a 50/50 play for every major league 1st baseman, what an awful throw, 50% of the time they "catch it" 50% of the time they don't. Can't predict that bounce. Hicks though, WTF man....WTF.
  2. Hughes: 9.2 million dollars (13+ mil starting in 2017 for 3! years). 4.58 ERA. 147 IP. 1.6 WAR Santana: 13.5 million dollars (next few years) 4.55 ERA 87 IP. 0.5 WAR Nolasco: 12 million dollars. 5.51 ERA. 32.2 IP. NEGATIVE 0.3 WAR Those have been the big Terry Ryan "splashes" in free agency the past two years. For all this talk about the Twins never being able to afford an "ace" it should be noted that for 35 million+ per year, the Twins could easily sign a REAL ace like David Price etc and still have 10 million left over to sign a solid #2 Instead, what do we have? A couple number 3's and a guy whole might someday become a number 5 again some day.
  3. This is what ****ing happens when you build such a garbage pen that you are forced to lean on the same 2-3 guys every night. Great job Ryan. Great job. Way to take a borderline playoff caliber team and refuse to do next to NOTHING to put them over the top.
  4. They could have brought him back in the pen for an apperance or two to see how he looked.
  5. I'm late to this party, but good lord, Santana is basically Molitors version of what Punto was to Gardy if not worse. How you PH Santana over Vargas is really really perplexing. I think Santana has a future in this league as a UTIL INF, but IMO Ryan needs to find a trade partner for Santana this offseason. Otherwise we could see way too many starts by Santana at SS next year over Escobar and far too many PH ops.
  6. I don't have a big issue with it. I wish we had a better option then Santana (yuck)
  7. I'm sure he is. But he also was #23 prospect, the cost of acquiring him is going to be too high. Norris is the much better target IMO
  8. Nolasco, Milone, Arcia, polanco andStewart for: Shields Norris kimbrel Benoit Solves the BP problem instantly, and gives you a rotation of: shields Santana Berrios Hughes Gibson With Duffey waiting in the wings.
  9. Why are people so enamored with Austin Hedges? .706 OPS in the minors is nothing special.
  10. I know the other "option" to pitch yesterday would have been Pelfrey, but watching the game it was apparent that Hughes really had no business starting that game. I get wanting him back, but having him miss that long, with no rehab starts in the middle of a playoff race? Seems like it was a disaster waiting to happen.
  11. I for one am thankful Instagram videos weren't around when Mike Redmond was still playing...
  12. it saves everyone 30 posts of people arguing about it
  13. Yes. I am 100% positive, it took me about 20 minutes to find the definitive answer, it's in the rule book, and thus not up for debate any more.
  14. about 500 years too early to make that claim
  15. Not true. The coin flip was the ONLY thing on the list.
  16. Yeah, the players union is pretty strong. The only major sport with no salary cap (guaranteed money to boot) plus you don't have Roger Goodell types who make up the rules as they go.
  17. Twins also have a heavy advantage on the "intra" league tiebreaker as well.
  18. Texas is 26-34 against their division Houston is 31-30 Twins are 33-28
  19. they changed it after that game. The Twins had The better record against Chicago which was what was so dumb about it.
  20. Determining Home-Field Advantage in Two-Team Tiebreakers 1. Head-to-head winning percentage during the 2014 regular season. 2. Higher winning percentage in intradivision games. 3. Higher winning percentage in intraleague games. 4. Higher winning percentage in the last half of intraleague games. 5. Higher winning percentage in the last half plus one intraleague game, provided that such additional game was not between the two tied clubs. Continue to go back one intraleague game at a time until the tie has been broken.
  21. Meh, I'm over it, it is what it is. If the Twins have a shot in the playoffs its going to come down to what it has come down to all year: Timely hitting, great defense, and a little bit (or lot of bit) of luck.
  22. All hyperbole aside.... Listening to Dilfer and Berman call a game makes me want to take a shotgun, load it up with ice picks, and blast it directly into my ear drums. Helen Keller is the only person in history who wouldnt have minded that broadcast. Good lord. Also the niners coach looks like Mike Tice's estranged cousin who had a windowless van that he lures children in with promises of candy and balloon animals.

    Big Papi

being a good ball player helps. Yankee fans have pretty much sainted ARod because he is suddenly good again.
  24. not at all! It was more just a joke about the amount of criticism Mauer receives on social media (and even some message boards "he should retire!!22!") But yes, it's pretty amazing that williams had such a great baseball career and military career. One of the better stories that doesnt get talked about very much I feel.
  25. His salary isn't stopping them from signing anyone else, the twins would never pay for a top ace type anyways, even if they had a $160 mil payroll. It's not in Ryan's nature. As many have said over over and over again. His contract is up long before guys like Hicks, Berrios, Buxton, dozier, Rosario, Gibson, etc hit free agency. I still have hope that he comes back next year a couple years removed from the concussion and ends up being the Mauer of old (.800+ ops)
