  1. I never said Hicks was a sure thing hall of famer or anything like Ruth. I said he has a high ceiling and is already close to a 20/20 guy (with gold glove caliber D in CF) I have said that Murphy, by most accounts has an "average catcher" upside. Some people disagree, and that is fine. I have been more than fair to discuss this with several people in this thread and haven't made it "personal" against anyone. Not sure why you are using such hyperbole for my stances and opinions.
  2. Um, I said I liked the Pak move and the Herman trade, in fact I have said that in this thread and other threads over the past week. I liked the Jepsen trade, the original Phil Hughes signing and don't mind the Santana signing. Stop with the "oh dave, he just hates everything Ryan does" meme. I'm not applauding him for acting early, a bad trade is a bad trade no matter when you make it. IMO this is a bad trade. I also stated how this wasn't the first time Ryan has "acted" early, Nolasco was one of the first pitchers signed that year and it didn't work out, big time. (And was even widely considered an overpay once the market set itself)
  3. I don't mind them trading Hicks "giving up" I mind them trading him for someone with such little upside, and someone who looks at least like a part time player for as long as Suzuki is here. The Twins need to be of the mindset of "playoffs or bust" next year, I'm not saying sell the farm, but they need to be putting out a team that can make a wild card spot in 2016, creating a hole in the OF for the first couple months with Hicks gone (and Buxton and Kepler not ready) while only bringing on a part time catcher seems like a net loss in the near term, and Hicks upside makes me think there is a very good chance that its a net loss in the long term. Just a perplexing trade all around. Why not give up something more for Gary Sanchez? A guy who may not be ready this minute, but actually has the upside to be a very good player at catcher.
  4. Yes, 5 straight seasons with no post season appearances will do that.
  5. I would be pretty surprised if Suzuki doesn't get at least 250 PA next year (unless he is injured), which I guess is fine, but again, don't trade real assets for part time players!
  6. That was what the thread was about, and I agree with you 100%
  7. Terry Ryan signed Nolasco pretty early a couple years ago (Dec 3rd), didn't work out too well as he grossly overpaid when waiting longer would have served him better. Pak, obviously it was now or never time with him, so hard to give Ryan for "being aggressive early" on him. Murphy? Perhaps like Nolasco he jumped too early and overpaid, should have waited for the market to play itself out a bit, then get a guy like Murphy (platoon type for Suzuki) without giving up a stud in the making like Hicks.
  8. Not nearly as many posts because 1. Plouffe doesn't have the upside Hicks does, Plouffe is an average player (which is fine) 2. Plouffe has a better player behind him (Sano) ready to take over now! Do the Twins have 3 players better than Hicks in the OF currently? Nah.
  9. This trade makes very little sense for Atlanta, I get you got some good players back, but Simmons seemed like a guy to build a team around. As far as qualifying offers go: average players like Rasmus and Plouffe will take those, and honestly, it's a win for the ball club as well.
  10. I dunno, morales had a real nice year, someone would give him 2-3 years me thinks
  11. Not true, nobody has said that. Ryan is a very smart baseball man, he just is far too conservative and unwilling to change to adapt to current market conditions to create a championship caliber team. As has been stated multiple times, I would want a new every day GM with Ryan taking over the President role.
  12. But the GM of the team who has Norris is widely considered (around these parts at least) to be an idiot....
  13. Hunter DID fail. He has a negative 0.8 bWAR last season, that is the definition of failure! What depth did they have that produced in his spot? Santana? no. Buxton? Rough first year. Arcia? Never got a chance, but had a terrible year to boot anyways. Nunez? Nope. Robinson? Oh yeah, we played him 50 games...
  14. Straw man alert! Um did I ever say to give up Berrios? Also you have no idea that Lucroy or Norris costs Berrios. Many have suggested that Norris for instance would cost nothing near that.
  15. Time to play our favorite game player A or Player B: Player A won a world series title Player B never won a world series title Player A never got in a physical reported fight with a teammate (hard to find any verbal ones either) Player B tried to punch a young player of a team who was an MVP and one of the best hitters of the entire franchise. Drumroll.... Player A is AJ Player B is Hunter
  16. So taking a risk on a replacement level 40 year old RF (for a huge overpay to boot) is ok, but taking a risk on a guy (AJ) coming off a 2.1 WAR year where you could get him for a few million is too big a risk? I would have preferred Wieters, Lucroy, Norris etc as well over AJ, but I prefer AJ for a couple million EASILY over giving up Hicks for Murphy dawg.
  17. Yeah, he certainly made his mistakes, and by no means am I saying "They need to trade everyone and go for it now!!!!" But at some point, in 17 years, and at some point in the Target Field era it would be nice to see them try and succeed in trading for or signing an actual game changer....or two
  18. It was quoted earlier in the thread. Is Murphy better than AJ? Possibly. The problem is though, AJ wouldn't have cost a high upside player like Hicks in return. It's trading a high upside guy for a guy with "average at best" upside. Not good.
  19. When have I ever said everyone is an idiot? I haven't called one poster out by name, I haven't called one analyst out for being an idiot. You can disagree, but knock it off with the personal hyperbole attacks. Yes, Keith Law ONE guy said it was a fair trade (but he never was a Hicks guy anyways) meanwhile you don't have to look very far to find several experts (and folks on TD) who say the Yankees won the trade
  20. Sweet, so you found one random stat that says Murphy is better, meanwhile overall fangraphs had Murphy as the 4th worst in the MLB, lets call a spade a spade, Murphy isn't "good" defensively and his ceiling is "average" at the dish. What is that? http://i.imgur.com/v1F1hk3.png?fb
  21. If the Twins had a better hitter taking Shane Robinsons at bats those 50 games it stands the reason that they may have been able to make the playoffs. The Twins never gave Arcia a real chance to succeed last year at the major league level.
  22. Beane also lost his job....Ryan has kept his job after 17 years of this. No accountability in this org
  23. The trade that doomed them didn't even happen in the 2014 run, it was the one this prior off season (donaldson)
  24. Good points, I was looking at just his offensive numbers. Either way it was a pretty bad decision, no doubt.
  25. 2 made the World Series. I'd say that's a pretty good result! When was the last time Ryan and the conservative approach made the World Series again?
