  1. I said in the post I don't like the idea of having a president in office int heir late 80's, I didn't bring up Bernie and Trump because neither one has any real shot at winning a general election anyways, unless they went against each other which would be the most comical and sad few months in American history. Also, it is worth noting that women are more likely to get Dementia then men, almost twice as much. For any other job in the world besides PUSA, I don't worry about it one bit, but for this role? It has to be considered.
  2. I think he is a solid pitcher, but as you mentioned, not a front end guy. With his results and team control I think the Twins could get a nice haul in return (high upside prospects? Catcher help? etc) Plus it opens up a spot for the May/Duffey/Berrios of the world.
  3. I get why people don't like Hilary, but I don't see how you can say he would be more competent then her, Hilary's resume is what makes me think she would be just fine. This is going to be UN PC as all hell my real issue with Hilary is with her age, I'm not sure I want someone in their late 70's running the country which would be her second term. Things like Alzheimer's, dementia etc are very real things that can effect people in that stage of life (look at RR) It sounds cold and callous but I don't want for a tough decision to be made potentially in 6-7 years.
  4. Just call him Trump. Harry Potter was a terrible series of books and movies.
  5. Agreed, I have said a few times that Gibson is the guy they should be looking to trade, he would bring back some nice value and the Twins have plenty of guys who can match his production moving forward. Gibson for Gary Sanchez would have been nice...
  6. I don't understand how you have Duffey so far ahead of May. I like both of them, but I think their floors are similar but May has a higher ceiling.
  7. The worst part about this is it almost guarantees us that Ryan isn't going to actually go out and get us a late inning RP that this team sorely needs (more than one really) and no, bringing in a Rodney or some random LOOGY doesn't count. If we go into the season with all of Nolasco, Plouffe and Milone on the 25 man roster I will probably just cancel my MLB.tv subscription, if that is the case it is apparent that Ryan has no desire to have the Twins compete in 2016, and if that is the case, how long do we have to wait until we reasonably can "Try" to build a playoff team?
  8. I like a lot of the points he brings up, and if I had a gun to my head and had to vote Repub he would be my clear #1 choice. However I see why people don't respond to him well nationally/overall, he doesn't have the charisma needed and can come off a bit "weaselly" and a little pompus.
  9. Yeah, I don't get why they even brought him back this late, he hasn't done anything in AAA or the majors the last 5 years to deserve a shot IMO. I'm hoping for the best that he "clicks" and can stick for a little bit in the majors, always nice to see someone who doesn't give up earn a few bucks.
  10. I would hardly call it irrational prospect love, in 2010 and 2011 he had two really nice years (27 HR in one, .870 OPS or higher in each of them as well) He of course "washed out" which sucks, but the "love" towards him was not irrational.
  11. Milone and Plouffe need to be traded for anything we can get at this point, we should not be moving players around (may to the pen) (Sano to RF) to cater to average veterans.
  12. I'm curious to hear what the pros and cons would be? (again I'm not a huge Wilf guy anyways) As far as Molly goes, I think Gardy was the unfair fall guy in that whole situation, if Gardy went, Ryan should have went as well. It's not Gardy's fault he had to deal with a crappy rotation and crappy lineup. Time will tell in regards to Molly, but by every single measure he got lucky last year to have a 75 win team via runs scored/runs given up, win 83 games. Can he be a great manager? of course! But I don't think manager was ever the issue with this club, it was Front office and above.
  13. I'm not even sure what your first paragraph has to do with anything, so gonna focus on this one. The thing is, it wasn't someone else's mess completely, a lot of it was his mess that he left Bill Smith with to begin with. Also his moves over the last 3 years makes it clear he hasn't changed a bit, continuing to hand out contracts to the Pelfreys of the world is the equiovlent of when he extended Blackburn for no real reason. Comparing him to a "new GM out of nowhere" is irrelevant, but even if it was a new GM out of where I would have them on a very short leash going into this season, and would be upset if they still managed to fail to address a HUGE weakness that is easily fixed (bullpen), and this doesn't even get into how they have managed Hicks over the last couple years, how they moved May to the pen, how they brought up prospects like Sano a little too late, let the bullpen get to the point of disaster before finally addressing it at the last minute of trade deadline etc.
  14. Then start Park in AAA, but Plouffe should be traded ASAP, and either he brings back a RP that can help now (or a B or B- prospect) or they use that money to sign a legit RP as well. I highly, highly doubt they just signed Park to start in AAA though, he has a higher bat upside then Plouffe anyways, and is pretty much penciled in for DH regardless. The easiest solution is trading the averaeg 3B plouffe.
  15. I visited that website "Friends Who Like Trump" and thank rocketpig I only had 4 pop up who "liked" him. (This is what happens when you scrub your "friends" list every year or so) I sorta wonder at this point, why doesn't a low polling candidate like Paul, Kasich or Bush straight up interrupt Trump next time he is spewing BS at a debate and simply say: "Does anyone actually believe this douche bag?" Instant 10 point jump in the polls IMO and hero for the ages.
  16. This is the correct answer
  17. But who fills that big void Buxton leaves?
  18. Ryan has had ample time to be a GM (17 seasons) and has yet to make it to a world series, much less win won, and hasn't made an ALCS other than once. Couple that with the inaction we often see in the trade market and the overall lack of good FA signings overall and yes, I would think that a new GM would improve things, or at least present the very real possibility of improving things. Also nobody "hates" TR, can we knock it off with the rhetoric? I was TR's biggest supporter for the first 14 years of his run (both before and after the retirement) it's the last three that make me think that it is in fact time for a change (but doesn't diminish the very nice run he had several years ago for a few years in a row)
  19. “Built like offensive guard in the NFL. Will have to watch body in the future and won’t have any problem seeing it…Has an outside chance to survive in minor leagues as C, but could only be a back-up at the big-league level.” scout on Matt Lecroy This one seemed 100% spot on. Even more painful that it's about a player who helped boot Ortiz and likely a title or two out the door
  20. Watching debate now: How on earth can people let Cruz and co say blatant lies and call them out on it: "Iran has declared war on us"- Ted Cruz. Ummmmm, no, no they haven't, nor have them come anywhere close to even doing such a thing. I wish these guys would be called out on blatant and dangerous lies like this.
  21. I'm not saying they need to go through GM's every few years, I actually think loyalty and patience are VERY GOOD things in sports, guys like Pete Caroll and Bill Belicheck were both kicked to the curb early, once a team gave them a real chance they succeeded. (Heck one team actually learned their lesson in that example) But the Pohlads have taken Loyalty way past the point of what is "nice to see", it's almost some weird form of nepotism that exists. Even if someone doesn't agree with a change being needed in the GM role. I think most can agree that the Twins lack success, of pitchers who can throw strike outs etc etc are a cause for change somewhere, however no real change has been made in the org over the past 20 years other than Bill Smith getting out, Gardy fired and a couple guys to be hired in the "advanced stats" department. So while, I don't want a new GM/coach every 3-4 years, I do have to ask you, wouldn't it have been nice for the Twins to attempt to go outside the organization when they replaced Ryan the first time, rather then a "loyal" employee who had no real background in talent evaluation/scouting or anything of the like?
  22. Trump is just basically the world's most successful troll at this point. I don't "hate" him nearly as much as I hate the people who support his every god damn nonsensical word. I have a hard time believing he actually believes half of the bile he spits out.
  23. That is hardly the only way. Cruz has some libertarian views, I will give you that, but the rest at out of whack with those views. Most importantly, if you polled 100 libertarians, at least 90 would say that Cruz doesn't represent their views, party etc.
  24. But Tiny American flags for all, right? http://i54.tinypic.com/2ihs2nl.jpg
  25. It's not all about firing, it's about accountability, when you say "our GM is our GM until he says he isn't any more" you are basically saying "Hey, as long as you don't waste our money or embarass us with a scandal, you can write your own check!" Especially for a GM who hasn't won titles before. I can almost get that if you are talking about Theo Epstein or Sabean (or a coach like Belicheck), but Terry Ryan or nearly every other GM? Nope! The Twins don't fire ANYONE for the most part, while I don't think firing everyone every few years is a good idea, I think at some point new blood is good for any team or any organization in general. The Twins FO has had a real lack of new blood/outside blood for a long time IMO. Lastly, again payroll is just ONE component, I'm not saying the Twins need to spend $150 million a year or even 130 million a year! The Twins at any point during their playoff runs in the past or even last year could have traded for a half season rental, even if that player had a large salary it wouldn't push them that much higher over the 50% "threshold". For instance Cueto would have cost like 3.5 million at the deadline in salary. (Not saying the Twins needed to trade for him, but you get the point) At some point during the Twins "run" they could have brought in a Cliff Lee (or anyone else really) without having to pay a ton of money out of pocket (due to 1/3rd of a season salary and lack of long term commitment)
