    Gonsalves has looked very good. Looking like an excellent 4th round pick. It's good that he's dominating at the level, but it will be interesting to see how he does in full season ball next year. On another note, can we stop worrying about what he may or may not have done as a high school senior. I really don't care what happened. God knows, I did stupid stuff, and I'm sure pretty much everyone else here is in the same boat.

    Gonsalves and Stewart look to be following the same path as Berrios. It's certainly good to see these guys dominate like they have, but I can't wait to see how they adapt to full season ball.

    I should have been more specific. Andrew Albers is someone I overlooked, he's been excellent, he definitely deserves Twins minor league pitcher of the year. I think starters absolutely deserve consideration. However, I don't really think relievers deserve real consideration. They are important pieces, but the lack of innings pitched, compared to a starter and how much a position player plays, is too much to overcome. Maybe you disagree with me. I'm not trying to malign relievers, but I really don't think they deserve the Twins minor league player of the year award over any half a dozen other guys who have had great seasons. My overall point, is that the three guys I mentioned have had truly great seasons, while mostly playing every day. Albers comes close, but even so I don't think he's been as dominant as Buxton or Colabello. Edit: It just occurred to me, don't the Twins have minor league hitter of the year and minor league pitcher of the year? If they do, than this whole argument is kind of moot, and we're just rehashing the MVP debate for the Twins minor league system.

    I think it's got to be a position player. There have been some good pitching performances, but I don't think any pitcher has had quite as dominant of a year as some of the position players. You really can't go wrong with either Sano, Buxton, Colabello, or Adam Brett Walker. I think I would probably go Buxton, Sano, and Colabello as the top 3. Walker has been great, but he's done it at one level, and low-A at that. Also, his numbers aren't really close to the other 3 guys. Colabello has amazing numbers in AAA, but I might give Buxton and Sano an edge based on them being at multiple levels in the minors and thriving at both levels. Colabello: 375 PA .354/.432/.652 with 24 HR, 74 RBIs and 2 SB. Buxton: 513 PA .330/.415/.526 with 12 HR, 75 RBIs, and 49 SB. Sano: 453 PA .289/.387/.620 with 31 HR, 92 RBIs, and 10 SB. This sounds a bit like the MVP debate. Do you give it to the guy who has been all around great in Buxton. A guy with incredible numbers, but not a prospect. Or do you give it to the guy with incredible power numbers and RBIs. After writing this, I have to think it's between Buxton or Colabello. Colabello and Sano's power numbers are close enough that I give Colabello the nod for the superior triple slash numbers. My vote is Buxton. Defense and baserunning are just as sexy as home runs, and Buxton has good power, with a ton of triples.

    Buxton so far is 2-2 with a walk and 3!!! stolen bases. Sano has been getting the attention lately, but what Buxton is doing is special. The power has been limited in Fort Myers, but I have no doubt as he gets older and stronger that the power numbers will be similar to what he did in the Midwest league and more.

    Bring back Johan on a one year deal. Why not? It would be cool to see him back in a Twins jersey, even if he doesn't make it back. Is there any chance he will be healthyish for 2014? I assume that the Mets can't buy out his contract fast enough, right?

    I posted this on a different thread, but it's on topic so I'll include it here. I don't have any problem seeing him come up in September. I think my suggestion is a combination of the aggressive and conservative approach. Please let me know if I'm missing anything. Edit: I posted this on the same article but in Nick's blog. Is there a difference between the two?

    I admit I wasn't sure Sano should get a September call-up, but at this point, why not? He's been tearing AA pitching apart the last month or so. At this rate, he's going to be on the MLB team next year. Why not give him his cup of tea in September, wait for his super 2 status to pass next year and then call him up for good in June. Unless Plouffe starts tearing it up, there isn't really any reason to keep Sano down. He's going to strike out a ton, might as well let him start adjusting to major league pitching in September and give him something to work on during the offseason.

    With Morneau coming off the books, and Willingham going into the final year of his contract, you'd have to think that the Twins will at least look at him. With all due respect to Colabello and Chris Parmelee, we don't exactly have a 1B prospect knocking on the door. Maybe Kenny Vargas? It will be several months before Abreu will be ready to sign, he's got to establish residency in another country first. If you could sign him to a 6-7 year deal at 70-80 mil. you'd have to think about it. His numbers in Cuba are insane, and considering how well Cespedes and Puig have done, it seems like a no-brainer. I doubt we'll be the highest bidder, I assume that Texas and the Red Sox will throw a ton of money at him, but who knows. Stranger things have happened.

    Hudson Boyd has been really disappointing. Has he been converted to a reliever yet? It's a hard game.

    With the international signings I feel like the relationships that team scouts have with the players and there trainers/parents/handlers are just as important as the actual money. I also think that teams are more dependent on the opinion of a limited amount of scouts. One thing I've liked about the Twins is that they've been willing to look outside of the DR. We have guys from Germany, Australia, and Taiwan.

    Even though Buxton and Trout have a similar career trajectory so far, Trout was a year younger when he was drafted, which just shows how impressive he is. Buxton hasn't done anything to lose his his number one prospect status. He's one of the 3 youngest players in the Florida State League, and he has an OPS around .800. Just because he isn't dominating the Florida State League like the Midwest League doesn't mean it's time to jump off the wagon. Considering it's his first year of full season ball, his results are still incredible.

    I feel like a lot of the signings aren't really publicized. Also, these signings happen all year after the deadline. I'll be honest, I don't remember hearing about guys like Lewis Thorpe and Felix Jorge signing. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think either of those guys were anywhere near BA's top 30 international free agents. Now I would say that they are probably top 20 prospects in the system, and definitely some of the more exciting pitching prospects. Not to say that they weren't mentioned, but just because we aren't hearing about it doesn't mean nothing is happening. If by next year, the Twins haven't used a large chunk of the international signing bonus allotment, then I will be angry. I think you have to give it time. Obviously there were circumstances, but we didn't sign Sano until September. Guys with upside don't always sign immediately after the beginning of international free agency.
