  1. Considering we traded him after the 2009 season, and he didn't post an OPS above .750 until last year, it's hard to knock the twins too much. His current pace has got to be unsustainable. It would be less awful if we still had J.J. Hardy, but it is what it is. I wish the Twins had kept him in AAA for a year or two after the trade, but hindsight is 20/20. Considering we might have gotten Ellsbury or Lester, the Santana trade will always be a disappointment.
  2. Those two might be the best in the business. Mientkiewicz was probably my favorite 1st baseman to watch in the field, and if anyone can teach Sano, it's definitely him. I think the Twins have so far handled Sano's development wonderfully. I think a lot of teams would have given up on him playing in the infield and rushed him through the minors. If Sano can stick at 3rd base, the Twins deserve a ton of credit.
  3. I gotta think that this is the first time he's played at a level where catchers can consistently get him out if he doesn't get a good jump, regardless of his speed. I'd rather him get caught a few times and take the time to gain experience learning how to use his speed and work on getting good jumps. Edit: I knew I had made this point before. Didn't realize that it was in the same thread. Oops.
  4. All it really means to me is that at the end the year, we all mentally add a homerun and 3 RBI's to his total. He still crushed the ball, even if it doesn't go into the official box score it doesn't change Harrison's future potential.
  5. He's in High A now, and will likely end up in AA by the end of the season. 2014 is the absolute minimum for a call up. A 2014 September call up is most likely. I'm pretty positive he'll be a starting the 2015 season.
  6. Probably Tyler Robertson on performance alone. I got to be honest, the bullpen is about the last thing I'm worried about. Edit: Just realized he's already at AAA. Disregard my post.
  7. It's been a crappy April, no doubt about that. But one bad month in the third year the park has been open isn't a reason to question the stadium design. With all due respect to Tyler Mason, but this article reeks of filler and contractual obligation. In two-three weeks when summer weather begins, nobody will care that a few games got rained/snowed out.
  8. I'm pretty sure Kepler is viewed as a corner outfielder long term. I don't think there's any reason why Kepler and Buxton can't play together at Cedar Rapids. I'd also like to see what Buxton's power profile is right now in the Midwest league before moving him up to Fort Myers. I'd say give him at least till June, and if he's still crushing the ball, then I could see him being moved up.
  9. I think Buxton has finally reached the level of pro ball, where stealing is more than just being blazing fast. Considering he's been thrown out 40% of the time this year, I'm hoping he's learning how to get his timing down. He's too fast for his baserunning not to be an asset.
  10. I've been thinking about big league comps for Sano. Everyone wants to make the Miguel Cabrera comparison, but I think that probably the best major league comparison is Giancarlo Stanton. The minor league numbers are pretty similar, particularly the power, batting average, and strike outs. I think its promising, that it appears so far that Sano appears to take more walks than Stanton ever did. Stanton was in AA ball by his 20th birthday, but I don't think Sano is far behind. Excluding an extended mid-season slump like last year (knock on wood), I think Sano is in AA-ball by the end of the season. I think Stanton is probably a much better outfielder than Sano will ever be at 3rd base, but I think the bat comparison is spot on. Frankly, I'd be thrilled if Sano turns out like Stanton.
  11. If the baseball thing doesn't work out, he might have a future in porn.
  12. Is there any word on where last years big international free agent signing, Amaurys Minier, will be playing. I assume he's in extended spring training, but will he start in the DSL or GCL?
  13. I wonder if Madison Boer's future might be as a reliever. He seems to be very inconsistent as a starter and if I remember correctly, he was a shutdown closer after he signed. I know it's still early in his professional career, but it's probably something to keep in mind.
  14. Could anyone have imagined a better start for the Twins top prospects?
  15. I would be good drafting a guy like Fraizer or Meadows only if they plan to trade Willingham for some pitching prospects. It might be a pipe dream to get someone of Alex Meyer's caliber, but we really need more top end pitching prospects, and without finding team with an abundance of pitching and desperate for power, the draft might be the only way to find pitchers. What is it about Georgia and high school outfielders. Scouts seemed to be pretty down on the competition Buxton faced in high school. But with the number two overall pick last year and probably two top 10 pick this year, I'm starting to wonder.
  16. Buxton's currently 1-2 with a homerun and a walk tonight. He's absolutely tearing the cover off the ball right now. It's still way to early, but if he continues hitting at a torrid pace, how long before he has to move up a level. Obviously a lot can still go wrong, and one week of baseball is a tiny sample size, but its hard not to look at his early season stats and dream of bigger things.
  17. Re-read the sentence. He says that "May (as in Trevor) has been an erratic mess at times". All he says about Berrios is that he's 18.
  18. I'm pretty sure a ton of Sano's strikeouts came during his awful month plus long slump. When he finally recovered in the last third of the season he struck out a lot less. I'm hoping he can develop more consistency throughout the season, everyone has slumps, but month long slumps are brutal and as Sano develops, I have confidence he will limit his strike outs. He's never going to be Joe Mauer, but I don't think he's Adam Dunn yet. All the scouts I've heard who have seen him, Kevin Goldstein, Keith Law, etc. were all surprised that his approach at the plate was surprisingly patient. They said he occasionally still swung at outside pitches, but he had vastly improved from the last time they had seen him. I'm really interested to see how he plays next year because the Florida State League is where hitters really start to face good breaking balls from usually more developed pitchers. I could easily see Sano starting out slow before figuring it out. I think next season will be where we really see what we've got with Sano. He's still 19, he may never be a good 3rd basemen but he has plenty of time to learn the position before we have to really worry about moving him to the outfield.
  19. I know that the cut in payroll isn't ideal, but I can't imagine ownership was comfortable with the payroll that far north of 100 mil. I think there are enough problems on the team that going out and overpaying a free agent wouldn't be worth it. Mauer and Morneau represent a huge chunk of our current pay roll and while Mauer's contract will have to be lived with, Morneau is a free agent after 2013, which I think could coincide with some of our top prospects getting to the Majors. It's a pain in the ass, but I think the only thing the Twins need to do is be patient and hope to maybe get some more top end pitching talent.
