  1. I'll add another one that could turn out well. Delmon Young for Lester Oliveros and Cole Nelson.
  2. Very interesting article. What this shows to me is how incredibly selective MLB baseball is. Each year around 1500 players are drafted (granted, not all of them sign). Plus international signings, which every year are more significant. That is roughly 15000 players are signed one way or another to play professional baseball. And at a given time only 750 are in major league rosters. It makes me more appreciative of the guys who make it even if only for a stint.
  3. Too bad they can't give Blackburn a couple more starts in AAA right now. He didn't do too great in Rochester
  4. I am glad I spoke too soon.
  5. Oh, boy, here we go.
  6. Yes, I agree. Pretty much the only comparison that can be make between Ploufffe and Hardy is that both can hit home runs. Defensively, is night and day.
  7. I blame him not for the home run, but for throwing a meatball down the middle in those circumstances. And I don't feel sorry for him He gets nice money for being the closer. Mad fans when you blow one comes with the territory.
  8. I think you are right VegetA
  9. Never mind guys. The are reporting that Burnett elbow issues are "minor" (they say there was no 'need to take an MRI) and that he should be ready to go soon. So, they are going to wait until he really blow his elbow to put him in the DL
  10. I think De Vries did OK last night, although, besides the home runs, there were some loud outs. I also agree that, long term, probably Hendricks will be part of the rotation, not him. A possibility for the time being, depending on how Swarzak fares today, is that Swarzak goes to the rotation and he becomes the long man. I assume that Blackburn will go to some rehab starts at AAA before he comes back and that Liriano is not going to start yet for a while.
  11. They just reported that Benson is out with hamate bone surgery. That could explain a lot.
  12. Regarding to the draft, I hate that draft position rewards losing. There should be some trick there. Like, if you don't win 8 (or 7, or 9) games in September, you lose your draft position. Or something of that sort, so teams have something to play for until the end of the season.
  13. He pitched so far 6 innings of shut out baseball. And he has pitched well all year. But he is just transitioning to stater right now, and the Twins need somebody right now. I think the most passable solution is to give some starts to Swarzak, and promote one of the relievers that are doing well (Slama is the most obvious). Longer term, promote Hendricks or Manship, if he continues to do well.
  14. In that case, you would be replacing Mauer with a .360 hitter.
  15. I beg to differ. Baker was hurt last year, and he never really healed. He did rest during the winter but when he tried to start going, got hurt again. They took a chance, but experienced medical staff should know that they were taking a big chance. But then again, is the Twins medical staff. In summary, regarding to starting pitching, the only thing the Twins did was signing Marquis, hoping and praying.
  16. I was about to write why on earth Gardy would put Butera instead of leaving Doumit, knowing that he was coming up to bat, and Butera hits a double. What do I know?!
  17. Among all the disappointing pitching in the majors, it is great to see performances like Shibuya tonight. A ray of hope.
  18. On the other hand, if you are going to give an opportunity to the guy, this is the moment. You know he is going to make a blunder or two, but let's see if Plouffe can play once and for all. If after a month or so, they see that he keeps screwing up, offensively and defensively, options or no options, go down or out.
  19. To be fair, yesterday Bert did say that what we were seeing was bad baseball. Regarding, to Robby, you know his job is to be a homer. It is just that he isn't too smart at it.
  20. Perkins: One walk is no problem when followed by 3 Ks
  21. It looks like Plouffe misses Valencia and wants to join him in Rochester.
  22. And now we know why
  23. I agree that 13 pitchers is 1 or 2 too many, but what can you do if the starters routinely don't pass the 4th inning?
