I like that Fangraph comp to Radke, although I have no idea how realistic/likely that is.

Chattanooga fell behind by a run in the top of the first-on an error. Tied it with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. And then another 11 and 5/6 innings happened. Sorry. Had to type it to believe it. What a sport.

Thanks for the write-up. Not that MY confidence has anything to do with anything, but I went to sleep before the eighth, feeling quite a bit better about the chances of a win, then I did the other night, when I went to sleep the moment Rogers got Turner to 0-2. I'm pretty wishy washy about what I want with this team. I guess my fantasy scenario is to trade off guys who won't be here next year, while the Twins continue to play meaningful baseball. Whatever the case, I don't want to see these guys quit. Yeah, it's a longshot, and making the playoffs might not amount to a championship...this year. Man, that run in 06 was fun though.

Was this planned for Buxton? I thought they skipped the rehab assignment. Regardless, good game for him.

I Googled "Joe M" to find out who might eventually show up in these conversations. Joey Martarano is an Idaho kid who was maybe a top 100 draft pick type a couple three years ago. He's from the same town (or the next one over) that produced Harmon. He chose to play football at Boise State, but wisely retired and took the Cubs money. He's in rookie ball now, with much less fanfare than Tim Tebow. Googling "Josef M" yields a result I'd hope doesn't make an appearance in these conversations. Oysters--smoked or breaded and deep-fried. Nature's Viagra. -
*I'm making this up, but it sounds good to me. The Braves opened the bidding at Del Rosario, the Twins countered with a GCL prospect, and they settled on Ynoa. Sad to lose Huascar, but glad Eduardo is still in the system.

Ditto on only following baseball. But, the local newspaper doesn't even print box scores anymore, while they did print a blurb about the Chargers third string quarterback. Maybe that's why I don't read the paper. Anyway, this is the point in the story where Obi-Wan, Gandalf, and Dumbledore die (vets get traded) and our young heroes take their lumps, on their way to eventual (not this episode) victory.

I wonder if other GM's are on the phone going NOW will you trade me that Santana/Kintzler package? I dunno, maybe the Garcia move was a hedge on that. Probably not. Regardless, Molly needs to find somebody else he trusts in the late innings. Does Curtiss have the mettle to move up straight to the 8th or 9th inning? Not having Garver or Vargas in favor of extra relief was bone-headed for this NL series. Does it send a subliminal message to the starting pitching staff when they do that?

This feels like the scene where the scrappy hero finally gives in to overwhelming opposition. Then somebody, maybe Sean Astin, gives an inspirational speech and the hero continues on. Bad karma for Dave Roberts, being such a stickler. I hope Rosario sticks it to them today.- 51 replies

Rogers was up 0-2 on Turner when I turned it off. Glad I didn't stay up any later. The old "which 4/5th starter to shelve." Honestly it's just throwing a dart to guess who might be most due for a clunker.

The Dozier-Dodger Grudge match commences. Come on, Brian, show them you were worth more than A Package Consisting of Jose Deleon and Three Extras from "Glee". -
Listening, I was thinking to myself that this might be it for Breslow. Demoralizing loss, for sure. Still, this team is so much better than last years. They've gotten up off the mat over and over; let's see if they have another in them.

Article: Twins 6, Tigers 5: Twins Hold Off Tigers

Kent Hrbek looks a lot like Tom Sizemore. Thanks for posting that video. I'm sitting here thinking how different I must look from my 13 year old self. Boy, without that team, I might not be a baseball fan at all, let alone a Twins fan. Are those graphs team specific? Maybe it is still lingering from last season, but my personal win expectancy was a tad lower there at the end then what the graph shows. Kintzler may yet regress, but I don't think he's even peaked yet. He's making to most of this "opportunity."- 14 replies

Article: Twins Close To Acquiring LHP Jaime Garcia?
Han Joelo replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Please refer to your edition of the Twins Daily Primer of Explicit, Agreed Upon Definitions For Productive Discourse. "Major" and "minor" are located on page 123, directly after where the definition of "Ace" ends. Check that--"Blockbuster Trade" is on page 124. In all seriousness, though, I guess I see this as a deal where this FO really doesn't want to get fleeced by giving up the wrong lottery ticket. I'm sure there are plenty of counter-arguments, but I immediately think of a Zach Wheeler for Beltran trade, or a Meija for a year-and a half of Nunez. I have no idea who is actually being discussed, or if my point is even relevant--maybe it is all money and medicals. But if they are haggling about the difference between Lewis Thorpe and Eduardo Del Rosario, that could be pretty "major" down the road. Our opinions may vary when it comes to semantics. -

Thaderek really doesn't want to get taken on their first major trade. Dozier redux going on here. Are there any good baseball books that "tell all" behind the scenes? I'd really enjoy reading about what goes on in trade discussions and draft discussions. There was a piece on MLBTR a while ago that detailed Arizona's draft decisions during the Goldschmidt year. It had insight on why the passed on Trout, etc. My point being that we speculate all the time, and some posters even seem to have inside information. I would read with rapt attention a book with blow by blow accounts of how trades go down, what the names were, etc. -
Re: the Royce Lewis articles. Would the Twins consider following Borrega's rec and skip Lewis up to Cedar Rapids? Barnes looks like he can be one of those solid if unspectacular guys, or maybe morph into a Taylor Rogers down the line.

The GCL game was tied the half-inning before it was called. Bummer. This is kind of like one of those murder mystery move deals. Who will be gone come morning time? Probably not Wander Javier. Nice job.Nick Brown struck out 8 n four?

Han Joelo replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
My friend, who at age 44 has the same brain tumor as John McCain, is an Indians fan. I doubt if he knows who Clint Frazier is, and if he did, would care that he's gone. He enjoyed seeing the Indians in the World Series. Right now he could probably care less about baseball. Then again, I hope to be watching meaningful baseball with him in October. Fortune favors the bold. As long as you also remember that that boldness is the elixir of the wise, and the alcohol of the fool. -
Gonsalves needed a lot of pitches to strike out 8 in 5 2/3 innings. Thorpe needed far fewer to K 7 in 7. Just observing.

Article: A (Twins) Territory Divided
Han Joelo replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
3-3 vs. Houston and the Yankees? The Houston series was a huge improvement over the first 4 games with them, and the Yankees series was a huge improvement over the last decade with them. Sano just out-valued Judge in a head to head, and Rogers-Kintzler is as lethal as anyone. They could use help though, on the mound and in their heads. The Yankees kind of threw the whole buying thing right in the Twins face, and to the teams credit, they pulled out a good win, despite fielding an "interesting" lineup... So, the Twins should trade 2 of YOUR favorite prospects, along with Tonkin and Pressly, for Sonny Gray right now, while not touching any of my favorite prospects. I don't know much about the Yankee prospects really, but it doesn't seem like they gave up a ransom necessarily to get their deal done. And, while pitching is the need, it seems like a Shannon Stewart/Cabrera/Hudson type pickup would help. Speaking of Hudson, remember how angry Johan got when they "sold" him off? Am I remembering right?
