    Adding Bader, Keaschall and Keirsey does improve team speed and athleticism. It's good to add, especially since the Twins had so little speed last year.

    He couldn't put Braves hitters away and ended up with about 35 pitches in two innings. Not that impressive, but two scoreless is two scoreless.

    I'll be interested in seeing tonight's lineup. I would presume Keaschall will be in there and quite possibly Bride. Speculation for the 26- and 40-man moves would be a DFA for Gasper. That would take care of both roster issues. I believe Bride was a catcher in the minors, so that would provide the Twins with an emergency backstop.

    I think Baldelli reflects the front office's preferences, by and large. I don't think that the front office has supplied the big league team with enough talent because of decisions made. First of all, too many bat-first position players and secondly too many injury-prone players. Also, I think the Twins have picked the wrong guy to move too often. Would the Reds have been satisfied with José Miranda? How about the Giants taking Jake Cave instead of LaMonte Wade Jr.? I don't think that the Twins are a small-market team. They are more accurately a mid-market team, so they don't have to keep payroll in the lowest reaches of all teams.

    Gasper hasn’t done a single thing in the regular season to show he belongs in the majors. I reacted to the absolute the he can’t play second base.

    I have a hard time believing the bullpen has been overworked up until now and with eight-man bullpens it’s hard to see that becoming a huge issue in the future. That said, innings will have to go to less desirable options at times and that will probably hurt. Griffin Jax has put together a good run of multiple years in the bullpen, being more effective in three straight years. The stuff still looks outstanding, but the results haven’t been there so far. Maybe it’s regression to the mean, maybe something else. I certainly think the Twins should stick with him quite a while longer.

    Yep. Keirsey should be getting some starts in the coming days with Wallner on the IL. With Castro and Correa at least nicked, I'm presuming Bride will get plenty of playing time to see whether his start this year is the outlier or whether he is a major league hitter as he was in 2024. Despite reverse platoon splits, he should be the choice over Gasper against left handed pitching for the platoon role at second base. Bader will probably be pretty close to full-time and he provided both offense and defense against the Mets. It would appear that Lee will get third base unless he is needed at shortstop and that Castro will continue to get most of his time in the infield. Despite a pretty deep slump, Larnach would seem to be the primary DH against right handed pitching.

    I'm over twice as old as Correa and have never been thought of as a candidate to be a professional athlete, but the way I see his description of his wrist injury is something he felt occasionally, but something that didn't keep him from playing. I would think that most guys have at least an area or two of past injury that might flare up at some point, but wasn't disabling (Lee's back, Larnach's foot, CC's back and foot, most of Buxton's body etc.). With cold weather and an awkward swing, Correa tweaked a tender spot, but it is not like he intentionally let an injury slide and become a problem. 40-man rosters are tight leaguewide because so many pitchers are on all of the rosters. Having an injury replacement for each position isn't possible, so utility is needed. Unfortunately, the Twins Swiss Army Knife hasn't looked good in the field and it's a bit of a risk to keep using him at shortstop. On the ball Castro didn't field cleanly, I don't think he had a prayer of throwing Acuna out anyway and the runner was on third base and would have scored. If Castro has to miss time, the Twins lose a lot of flexibility. Adding Bride, who has played quite a bit at three positions adds back a little utility, but doesn't directly help at shortstop.

    Not too sure Keaschall is ready. He's hitting .261 with a .727 OPS. I don't think those numbers are even above average in the International League.

    The speculation is that Bride can help at third base immediately while the Twins have very few options there at this point.

    Alcalá has had two absolute meltdowns totaling seven runs and no outs (IIRC) and Jax has been touched for three runs in one outing and Jax had three outings where he was scored on (earned runs) six runs in 2.2 innings. It will take months to overcome what happened to Alcalá and weeks to overcome what Jax has allowed. Such is the life of a relief pitcher. I think Jax' stuff and previous performance over the two and a half years says he'll still be pretty good. I wouldn't say the same for Alcalá.

    I did not remember Jonah Bride at all, so I looked him up at Baseball Reference. He's been bad (SSS) this year after having what looked like a breakthrough year in 2024. Certainly he looks like a better RH bat than Mickey Gasper. Perhaps he can help out on the left side of the infield, with both Correa and Castro having injuries that might end up costing them playing time. Bride would appear to have a bit of power, but lower than league average strikeout rate and above league average walk rate. He has pretty pronounced reverse platoon splits. Defensively, the topline numbers look average-ish. A couple other thoughts about this move. Keaschall isn't coming up anytime soon unless the injury barrage continues. Despite hitting a home run today for St. Paul, Armando Alvarez hasn't done enough to be considered for promotion. Alvarez and Bride look like similar players to me. Did Castro's injury cause this acquisition? Short-term, the Twins are really short of left side infielders.

    A nice lead would allow Festa to go in the uncharted waters of the sixth or maybe even seventh inning IMHO. So far, he hasn't shown (in SSS) the ability to sustain his stuff beyond twice through the order.

    If it comes to that, I think Paddack (the last vowel is an A) is the guy in the bullpen. I sure hope so anyway.

    To me, the photo is proof that Bader wasn't in contact with the bag and the fielder still had the tag on him. I'm just glad the Mets lost their challenge on Castro's double and couldn't challenge the call at first in the seventh inning.

    1) It's just one game, but Julien had a flawless game at second, with the heads up double play. I think he showed good judgment on a grounder up the middle by the Mets catcher. Julien fielded the ball cleanly, set himself and made a good strong throw. I've seen him rush when there's no reason and then things unravel--not this time. Maybe he's making some progress. 2) I know Gasper made a really bad error in one of his few appearances at second base, but I've seen two platinum glove shortstops (Correa and Lindor) make equally bad errors in this series. I don't think we should make judgments on one or even a couple of mistakes. I see that Gasper's preliminary sprint speed is in the average range, so he shouldn't be considered an extremely slow guy (like France and Miranda) so maybe he might have okay range. I am not saying this disproves that he should never play second, just that the jury should or could still be out.

    Keirsey will be 28 in less than a month. By the time Trout was Keirsey's current age, he already had a leg up for the Hall of Fame. Yeah, there's not much comparison. The manager and coaches see these guys all through spring training and in BP. If a guy can play, they will play or the coach/manager will lose their job. Rocco and his staff may well lose their job, but I don't think it is for the way they handled (specifically) Keirsey, Miranda and Alex Kirilloff.

    Nice win. First one-run win and (of course) first walk-off. Bader helped win the game with his glove, bat and arm. The Twins had the right ghost runner and it looked like they got a huge break with a bad call at first base. Rocco might be well-advised not to use Jax on back-to-back days.
