Twins (Ryan) vs Yankees (Weathers): 7/5/26, 12:35pm
stringer bell replied to Brandon Glick's topic in Archived Game Threads
Similar career paths, but not similar skill sets. -
Good games from Lee, Lewis, Martin and especially Ryan. Six homers yesterday and none today and still outscored the Bombers in the revamped House that Ruth Built.

No guarantees when a player comes back from an injury as Buxton was attempting to do. He got through one game in the field and running the bases. I hope he can return soon.

Twins (Ryan) vs Yankees (Weathers): 7/5/26, 12:35pm

Not recently. He’s struggled for a few games. Batting average is pretty goid, but his OPS is only about league average. -
Twins (Ryan) vs Yankees (Weathers): 7/5/26, 12:35pm
stringer bell replied to Brandon Glick's topic in Archived Game Threads
I’m not seeing today’s game as available on twins.tv. I have Peacock, so I can watch it on that platform. I will probably watch until Ryan is out of the game. It gets excruciating watching just about any member of the Twins bullpen. -
Have We Reached the End of the Road for Matt Wallner?
stringer bell replied to Sam Caulder's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
The adjustments he attempted in the offseason didn't translate to success. He is beaten 90+% of the time by well-placed fastballs and that doesn't preduct the kind of success that other guys have had who struggled. The power is legit, just like Miguel Sano, but if he can be easily pitched to, he's only going to hit mistakes. I was disappointed with his play in the field, as well. -
What Should the Twins Do About Their Bullpen?
stringer bell replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
From the pitchers who are at St. Paul and haven't played for the Twins this year, they have zero guys who have plus stuff, pedigree or performance, with the possible exception of CJ Culpepper. I am actually surprised that Raya hasn't imploded so far. I think he might be all right. although he needs to throw more strikes. It isn't much, but probably a silver lining that Fundy was able to go two innings on Friday without a walk or run. I saw a lot of his outings in the second half of '25 and he was good, maybe he can get there again.- 84 replies

Another feather in Buxton's cap. The first time he has been voted an All-Star starter (at age 32). It is nice that he has been so productive in his early 30s, but still makes me sad when I think of what he could have done if he was healthy in his 20s.

Regressing to the mean is pretty likely for Kreidler. I hold my breath when he hits (not in a good way), but he can pick it at shortstop and is also a capable outfielder. Regardless, he's not a long-term answer at short unless he can sustain his hitting (very doubtful). I believe Culpepper would already be here if it weren't for the two consecutive injuries.

Twins 2, Yankees 5: You Already Know
stringer bell replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Today's lineup is a data point in support of Kreidler over Gray at shortstop no matter the handedness of the opposing pitcher. Tristan Gray needs to hit to maintain his job as a three-position utility infielder and he hasn't done that. He shouldn't be used as shortstop as much as third and second base and his role is now considerably narrower because the now preferred regulars at second a third don't give Gray a platoon advantage. I don't see Gray staying on the Twins' active roster much longer. Clemens best defensive position is first base, both this year and in his career. There have been a couple of hiccups, but Lewis has looked very good at first, so leaving Clemens at second makes sense.- 43 replies

Twins 2, Yankees 5: You Already Know
stringer bell replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
What I don’t like is that I suspect an IL decision for Buxton is influenced by him playing in the All-Star game. Buck has been to two and started once (due to a starter’s injury), but he will likely be voted in this time and get a starting spot. He hasn’t been there often enough to blow if off. There really isn’t a qualified All-Star other than Buxton. Worse pitchers than Bradley or Ryan have been All-Stars, but their numbers aren’t as good as a host of other pitchers.- 43 replies

Twins 2, Yankees 5: You Already Know
stringer bell replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I don’t think Gray is the choice over Kreidler at short. Kreidler did start a couple games (with Gray sitting) against right handers before Buxton went to the bench and I am confident Shelton would start Kreidler st short again if there was a different option in center. This is all complicated by the Buxton injury and the lack of confidence Shelton has in either Repko or Martin to fill in as the center fielder. The Twins chose Gray over Kreidler in the spring because he was a lefty alternative to back up two RH hitters and a switch hitter and Kreidler’s hitting profile was among the worst in MLB. Kreidler has shown enough with the bat and glove to play before Gray at least 75% of the time, but he’s “neded” in center field. Until Buxton or an outfielder currently in St. Paul is ready to play for the Twins. My guess is Roden for Repko and when Jeffers is activated he takes Gray’s spot, although they might try to DFA Jackson.- 43 replies

Walker Jenkins Added to Futures Game Roster
stringer bell replied to Cory Moen's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
According to mlb.com, Jenkins is going to the Futures Game in place of the again-injured Culpepper. Without knowing too many details, when it was announced that Jenkins would play in the game to me it meant either 1) he was replacing Culpepper due to injury 2) he was replacing Culpepper to to his (Culpepper's) imminent recall to the major leagues or 3) both Culpepper and Jenkins would be playing in the game. It turns out Jenkins is there in the least-exciting scenario replacing Culpepper due to the shortstop's injury. -

Trading Trevor Larnach Just Makes Too Much Sense
stringer bell replied to Sam Caulder's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Whatever value Larnach has is at its peak right now. He is hitting better than he ever has before and unless there is another gear there, this is the best he ever is going to be. He doesn't add value on the bases or in the field, but he is playable in left field. The recurring question is whether to settle for perhaps slightly above average or roll the dice with someone with considerably more upside. Josh Bell is also what he is. He's a switch-hitting DH who can only play first base who has consistently logged above-average hitting numbers while providing virtually no value on the bases or in the field. It is nice to have a constant presence in the middle of the order and according to the broadcasters he is a good clubhouse presence, but he won't be around next year and the Twins have a lot of candidates to be the DH. -
What Should the Twins Do About Their Bullpen?
stringer bell replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Honestly, I thinkthey are major league pitchers who might be the seventh or eighth guy in a bullpen.- 84 replies

What Should the Twins Do About Their Bullpen?
stringer bell replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
One would have thought that the last two weeks plus would have moved them to clear “sell” territory, but they’ve played .600 baseball in the last 15 games (including nine road games). I fear that they will be paralyzed into inactivity at the break, which might be worse than a selloff.- 84 replies

What Should the Twins Do About Their Bullpen?
stringer bell replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
As usual, a really good analysis from Nick. Not a pretty picture, but there’s some reason for optimism. The club needs to decide if they should add or subtract and the recently completed month of June gives mixed signals. They haven’t been overwhelmed by injuries, have some strengths, but pretty glaring weaknesses. I believe they should trade their two most high-profile guys (Jeffers and Ryan) and that pretty much rules out a postseason. Getting bullpen help from trades probably should happen.- 84 replies

I think I might have been the biggest Martin fan on this site, but the numbers are the numbers. He’s become a good defensive corner outfielder, with good speed and contact skills. He hasn’t hit well enough to garner full-time playing time and his value on the bases hasn’t been substantial despite the aforementioned good speed. A pretty good 13th position player on a good team? Maybe, but not someone to build around or invest at-bats. Martin is good in left and right and hasn’t played an inning of infield this year, so I wouldn’t classify him as versatile.

Twins (Ryan) vs Astros (Burrows): 6/30/26, 7:10pm
stringer bell replied to Brock Beauchamp's topic in Archived Game Threads
I wouldn't say that Gray is the preferred option at shortstop, but maybe Shelton and his staff see Gray as acceptable at short. Kreidler started several games at short against right handers recently. The numbers and the eye test don't agree, but if Gray is supposed be on the team, he needs to be an acceptable shortstop. Culpepper for Gray makes sense, although the Twins would lose a left handed hitter. Kreidler is not going anywhere. The combination of productive hitting and plus ability in both center and short is valuable.
