  1. That guy on the mound for Oakland turns his cap just like our guy!
  2. AUSTIN!!!! ^ 2 (No Piscotty heroics on that'un.)
  3. That was a reeeeally nice catch in RF by Piscotty on Kep. I thought he was going to come up just short.
  4. They say many traits are established at conception.
  5. Ah, if only there were a theme to this game thread so far....
  6. How did the Hipster burn his hand?
  7. And speaking of.... AUSTIN!!!!
  8. No argument here. But hopefully he watches video of that play, and agrees he needs to participate in limberness/flexibility training, to get that board out of his back.
  9. We missed Mauer's first-base stylings on that low throw from Logie Bear, denying us the DP. Just a fielder's choice, not E3 since you can't assume the double play, but it's a play that the traditional defensive stats don't catch. Hopefully DRS, or whatever, dings Austin for that.
  10. That was not a beautiful swing by Sano, for the third out.
  11. Also, he's getting ahead in the count. Which is a pleasant change from certain recent games by other pitchers. Just a little of this, a little of that, standing between him and a really good game today. No jinx.
  12. That was a beautiful curve to strike out Davis for the second out here in the third.
  13. Command is the problem, not stuff, in my book for Gonsalves. His fastball is good enough if he's careful, and his other stuff plays, I think, but he can't put it where the catcher places the mitt, pitch after pitch. It needs to be a high percentage of the time, not here and there, now and then. That doesn't make him unique, by a long shot, but then there's plenty of guys who never make it. I didn't get around to asking, during last night's game thread, whether you'd prefer a guy with great stuff but questionable command, or great command but questionable stuff. I think I'd go for the latter. I'm not quite sure Gonsalves's stuff is "great" enough to make up for his command, which is kind of why I didn't bother asking the question.
  14. Pretty big jump Laureano got on Berrios.
  15. I'll have to defer to you on this one, sir.
  16. We're getting our share of close plays at first, so far this game.
  17. Kind of high-falutin' language from a deadhead. Nah, his actual quote was, "man, this music SUUUUCKS!"
  18. Hey Miguel, get ready for some curveballs.
  19. His inning was a mixed bag. The rest of the game may put it in one context or a different one, depending. Nice challenge by the dugout crew to give Mauer a base hit.
  20. None, they're pretty comfortable around burnouts. So, what did the deadhead say when he ran out of weed?

He said, jost vun, becoss ve are efficient, und also not wery funny. --------- Go Twins!
  22. What did you think of his demeanor in his fifth inning? Chewing his lip, rolling his eyes, I don't remember exactly what. As I said in the game thread, I don't usually go much for mind-reading, but I thought he was throwing a "Skip, come and get me" vibe right around then.
  23. With Gonsalves's command not being ideal, I think that that is an accomplishment. I recall only one dropped pitch, to Astudillo's left, which he corralled quickly enough to not give the runner any thoughts of advancing. That'll happen to any catcher. I also thought he looked admirably "quiet" behind the plate. He got in position and then there wasn't a lot of wiggling around. I am led to understand that umpires prefer that. And it also just seems like good form, giving the pitcher as steady of a target as possible. FWIW that's my impression of Ben Rortvedt down on the farm, as well. Molitor saying "just fine" is pretty high praise for a rookie, methinks. Behind the scenes it may be "here's four or five things to clean up, but all in all I think you'll see some more action there."
