  1. They're a bad team, but laughing stock? C'mon. Get better friends.
  2. Would you believe, Xavier Avery (say that five times fast) plus a PTBNL.
  3. Earlier today while reading another post I spent some time trying to find a pre-season interview with Terry Ryan that said more than "if we'll win our share." Actually I find the opposite in this December interview: Mackey: Will Twins compete in 2013? 'We have to be realistic,' GM says | 1500 ESPN Twin Cities ? Minnesota Sports News & Opinion (Twins, Vikings, Wolves, Wild, Gophers) | Sportswire: Minnesota Twins "I think the goal here is to get better," Ryan said. He danced around the question of competing in 2013. "We'll try," he said when asked directly. I don't see where he insists. Does someone have a different source to point to where he does?
  4. Interestingly, wasn't that the Twins talent evaluators' knock on their own Anthony Slama?
  5. Moderator's note: please, don't do this. Calling what anyone thinks "laughable" is a clear enough violation of the "respect" part of the Comments Policy http://twinsdaily.com/minnesota-twins-talk/5759-updated-comment-policy.html In some sense it doesn't actually matter if you go on to name names. Of course, in another sense it does. Mr B, if you feel some need to take this up with the moderators, please use Private Messaging.
  6. Fun! Though, I hope Sano is keeping his head motionless better than the umpire has to. And I hope his ocular rods and cones have more pixels than the camera does.
  7. "We finished last with you. We can finish last without you."
  8. You might have a different meaning in mind for the idiom "spit the bit" than I am familiar with. Pelf missed a couple of starts in late June, otherwise he's gone out there for this regular turn. I don't notice any gaps in Gibson's season. Worley's been hurt, I guess you could cast aspersions about his toughness if you insist.
  9. I wonder how well the main fan base would react to receiving "just" a low-minors stud pitching prospect at the cost of two aging starters. My guess is: not well.
  10. Wait, you're saying that those ads I found claiming "develop explosive bat speed" are a lie? / my bat speed in Little League was measured with a sun dial, so I wouldn't know
  11. Haven't seen Dozier's name raised in Bruno's defense yet. He might be the one guy who fits the profile that you are describing, trading some extra whiffs for some extra pop to supplement a low BA. Guys who already show some pop in the majors, maybe aren't benefitting from Bruno's approach yet.
  12. Does he profile as any better than below-average on offense and below-average on defense as a third-baseman? I don't understand the love. Give him his cuppa, plus a fair shake in spring training, maybe lightning strikes - but that's all, I wouldn't go giving him much benefit of the doubt after that.
  13. The ways of the Avatar are subtle and we mortals are not entitled to question them.
  14. The power of the Rally Avatar knows no bounds, it seems.
  15. I used Google Maps to search for "High Rd" in Tucson. Didn't find it. Go figure.
  16. This time I was careful to not install Rally Avatar too early in the inning. Fingers crossed...
  17. While cleaning the shower, I noticed the sink drainhole needed cleaning out. We have two sinks in our bathroom, and it was remarkable contrasting the very different nature of the grossness coming out of hers versus mine. Neither was "better", just different. / edit - Chief is not here so I felt safe in writing this, plus I tried to establish the very clear antecedent of "sinks" before the part about grossness coming out.
  18. Thanks. I hope part of the humor is a kernel of truth: that if you buy into PTC, then from the batter's point of view you adopt what Bruno seems to be advising. (Unless, maybe I've got the logic backward.) Now whether you should buy into PTC, either in whole or in part, welllll... that's an argument for some other thread I suppose.
  19. Dozier is probably the poster boy for benefitting from the approach I expressed above. I know Parker gave a great fundamental explanation of the change in Dozier's swing, but just from the stat line it looks like a trade of more strikeouts for extra pop to go with a low batting average, and for Dozier it's working. Others like Plouffe aren't reaping the benefits of accepting a few more strikeouts - a possible difference is that strikeouts weren't previously part of Dozier's game while with Plouffe they always have been. To be clear, I'm not talking about Adam Dunn levels of whiffs here. OK, too serious for a game thread, I know, I know.
  20. Anybody looking back fondly at the Vavra Era? Me either, but whatever Bruno is calling his counterpoint to Pitch To Contact is not resulting in many runs. They've gone from near bottom of the league in strikeouts to around the top, and Bruno looks like the main difference. They also walk a decent amount so it's not pitch selection per se - it's more like Bruno is telling them not to worry about strikeouts, just pick out a pitch in the zone and let fly.
