    You didn't see promise in the first three innings? What I didn't like was the "cleansing breaths" or whatever they were, that he started doing after a couple of bad pitches. He doesn't have command of himself (even if that's a foolish attempt at mind-reading on my part). He needs to fix that before he really will have command of his pitches.

    It's early, but 5 SO in 3 IP is more like what we were promised when Trevor May was brought up. Wait and see if the Birds can lay off the breaking pitch in the dirt... but shaping up as a dandy pitching duel and moving along smartly enough to satisfy almost any fan who complains about 4+ hour games.
