  1. Can't Anybody Here Play This Game? http://www.bronxbanterblog.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/casey_stengel.jpg
  2. Perhaps, but in the morning I shall be drunk, madam.
  3. I hear that punch line all the time! Now, I'll know to laugh and say "I get the joke."
  4. A journeyman reliever signed with an understanding he'll get a shot to audition to start, maybe leading to more. Who did we hear that about, last offseason? Only this guy has even less of a major league track record of success. It's an OK depth move, if they didn't have a suitable starter to call up from AA.
  5. Floats like a bee, stings like a butterfly.
  6. Yes, go ahead. That'd be great. http://cdn.instructables.com/FQU/NBUH/I2WENHG5/FQUNBUHI2WENHG5.RECTANGLE1.jpg
  7. Hicks floats like a butterfly, stings like a bee.
  8. It's a little known statistic that Harmon Killebrew bunted successfully 573 times in his major league career.
  9. Loved the sour look on Girardi's face after Drew did what Drew does best.
  10. I'd be satisfied if ChiTown called for it with two out.
  11. Probably sounded like Sugar Ray Robinson to some wit in the dugout.
  12. Suzuki bunt Robinson over?
  13. Can you please call for bunts from some other players? Kurt Suzuki should practice bunting, for example.
  14. Consistency seems to be his bugaboo. Like a lot of young talented players I suppose. He can make a tough play look easy, and next play make an easy one look tough. Get ready for some second guessing if his fielding pct hovers around .900 in the early going. In my softball days, I was a consistent outfielder. I made the tough plays look difficult. Ditto the easy ones. Consistent.
  15. Yeah, to my mind that's a fairly favorable projection offered by Steamer. Based on a so-so high-A 2014 season with a BA of .264, they have him batting .236 if they had promoted him straight to the majors. Not numbers worthy of being kept in the majors, but would not totally embarrass himself had that been the alternate reality, and last winter nobody was proposing to jump him straight to there. Next year's projection should be even more favorable, given the good AA results in 2015 at age 22.
  16. Beyond the first three you named, sounds like you're describing players you wouldn't be actively seeking to replace, for a potential pennant run some spring. Building blocks. Not cornerstones.
  17. He never bothered me that much, except for one trait: when he had a famous guest, a genuinely "good get" for his or anybody's show, he would be obsequious and never contradict anything at all.
  18. I think spycake was just elaborating on why O'Day will not come close to receiving an QO.
  19. I dunno. If your team can hit 4 home runs a game, the wins should come pretty reliably.
  20. He could be valuable as a final piece to a contending team lacking a solid 3B or a prospect they expect to move right in. However, I don't notice any NL teams fitting that description, and I don't want to think about trading with AL rivals. Bad luck for the moment, maybe things change in the off-season.
  21. My one lasting memory of him in spring training was a bullet to erase a would-be base stealer. I can't speak to other aspects of his game, of course, nor his consistency. From the TD Prospect Handbook last year (which you really should have bought ):
  22. I belong to SABR so I didn't find the link, the link found me!
  23. I looked it up in order to check my guess, and learned that Nolasco is even "ahead" of Big Pelf at .369 but lacks the innings to qualify.
  24. Trevor Plouffe is the only Twin to get any love in the recently-released SABR Defensive Index for the first half of the season. Plouffe is 15th in the AL, however four other third-basemen rank higher. Plouffe is probably not the most interesting topic in this list, but he's our guy, and it's nice to see that his defense makes the numbers light up, at least. Plenty of other data to chew on, such as TB's center fielder Kevin Kiermaier going off the charts. http://sabr.org/latest/sabr-defensive-index-rankings-released-through-july-12-2015
